That’s according to the National Association of Theatre Owners, the trade group that keeps track of such figures. Patrick Corcoran, the vice president and chief communication officer of NATO, explains how the average ticket price is calculated and the perennial complaint that such a low amount can’t possibly be correct. On this week's episode of Showbiz Sandbox:

This was part of a larger operation that involved total lockdown of the suburban neighbor to Boston. Roads were barricaded and vehicle traffic was prohibited. A No-Fly Zone was declared over the town. People were “ordered” to stay indoors. Businesses were told not to open. National Guard soldiers helped with the lockdown, and were photographed checking IDs of pedestrians on the streets. All the while, police were performing these disgusting house-to-house searches. This was part of a larger operation that involved total lockdown of the suburban... more

This video conflates various clips of Alex Jones infamous appearance on the Pier Morgan show on gun control, January 8, 2013 as recapped by Howard Stern with an edit of Alex Jones from his May 19, 2008 broadcast. Jones explains how Howard Stern tried to get him to come on the Howard Stern Show, but Jones refused.
This was around the same time or shortly before Jones' radio program was picked up by XM and then shortly before the merger of XM and Sirius satellite Radio. This is curious because Stern appears to or pretends to not be aware of Jones in 2013. Alex Jones then goes on to explain 9/11 and black propaganda and advises his listeners to cancel their subscriptions to Sirius Satellite Radio. This video conflates various clips of Alex Jones infamous appearance on the Pier... more

Once again Hollywood raked in record earnings at the North American box office in 2012, though this time it wasn’t because of increased ticket prices. Both revenue and attendance were up nearly 6% during the year as 1.36 billion tickets were sold to set a new annual box office record of $10.8 billion. Of all the YouTube memes, one of the most enduring involves cats cacophonously walking across pianos. It sounds like atonal music, or so goes the joke, a one-liner as inescapable as the popular response to abstract art: My child could paint that. You might even begin to think there’s some truth in it.
There is and there isn’t. In 2009, one hundred years after Arnold Schoenberg wrote the canonical atonal piano work Drei Klavierstücke, new media artist Cory Arcangel produced a YouTube video in which cats nearly perfectly performed it. [continue reading...]

Just in time for Christmas, Mr. Goldman Sachs Bailout King suggests ways to avoid the Fiscal Cliff. Oh yeah, off the backs of the middle-class and the poor. Ebenezer Scrooge is Mahatma Gandhi compared to Lloyd Blankfein! thinkingblue
Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein Wants Seniors to Get Less
The hypocrisy of Lloyd Blankfein, a Wall Street banker, and other corporate leaders who have inserted themselves into the debate over major tax and spending decisions under consideration in Congress is nothing short of repugnant. Blankfein's Goldman Sachs got billions from the federal government during the Wall Street bailouts, enabling him to hold a job that paid him $16.1 million in 2011, and now he wants the rest of us to take a pay cut -- now and in the future. Referring to Social Security, he told CBS, "You're going to have to do something, undoubtedly, to lower people's expectations of what they're going to get." That's a second-rate vision for a first world country, and we just voted for a lot better than that.
Blankfein is one of many Fortune 500 CEOs who joined together under the name "Fix the Debt," a campaign to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid to address the federal deficit during the fiscal showdown. This group of more than 90 CEOs is pushing cuts to middle-class programs while shielding millionaires, billionaires and big corporations from tax increases.
Each of these executives has amassed retirement assets averaging more than $9.1 million, according to a report released today by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS). Of the more than 90 CEOs involved in Fix the Debt, 41 run companies with pension programs, but only two of those plans are fully funded, IPS said. It's the second impressive IPS report in the last week, and it lays bare the flagrant hypocrisy of these captains of finance and industry.
