The Smoking Baby - the 2-year old who became a global YouTube sensation in the summer of 2010, has unwittingly become the posterchild and symptom of a Big Tobacco-sponsored battle being waged in developing markets.
Christof Putzel heads to Indonesia, where he exposes Big Tobacco's successful and deadly expansion into that country, and observes the stage being set for a David vs. Goliath battle, as a small, underfunded group of concerned advocates battle Big Tobacco and a government drunk on profits and denial. The Smoking Baby - the 2-year old who became a global YouTube sensation in the summer... more
The MPAA is arguing to a US appeals court that those who embed videos of copyrighted material should be found just as guilty as the person who posted the video.
The criminalization of embedding copyrighted videos may be upon us as the MPAA presented arguments on a copyright case being heard by the 7th circuit court of appeals.
In their testimony they argued before the court that those who embed videos of copy written material are as guilty as the person who posted the source video.
The push comes as the United States congress is trying to push through an array of legislation under the pretense of anti-piracy regulations that would make it a felony worse than child molestation to violate copyright laws.
Perhaps even worse is the entertainment industry moving unilaterally outside of the legislative process to introduce their own three strikes Internet censorship copyright violation rules.
If the appeals court were to rule that way it could be the end of embedding videos as people can unknowingly be charge in violation of the laws just for embedding videos.
Further complicating the matter is the government is already seizing of websites that they merely allege to be violating copyright law.
These seizures of websites are already taking place and if the courts decide to rule in agreement with the MPAA the government will have grounds to seize websites that have copyrighted video on them and basically would enact provisions of SOPA and PIPA through judicial case-law.
In fact the United States has already legal battles to have people overseas extradited to the United States to face charges just for linking to pages that contain copyrighted material.
The problem has become so bad that Firefox’s Mozilla has outright refused to abide by a government order to take down a plugin that allows users to continue to access websites after they are seized by the government.
This is all part of the rise of the US government seizure of assets without due process by effectively holding them guilty until proven innocent, which is contrary to the US Constitution, and forcing them to prove their innocence to retain their assets. The MPAA is arguing to a US appeals court that those who embed videos of copyrighted... more

W.H. Auden’s poignant grief poem, Stop All The Clocks aka Funeral Blues has been set to music, by emerging Scots-born singer songwriter, Nemo Shaw. This new song can be heard at the Songs of Grief and Loss website.
London, United Kingdom., April 2, 2012 - (PressReleasePoint) - In an age of secularism, Green, humanist, and even DIY funeral services are all growing in popularity, according to “UK Funerals On-line”, U.S Green company “Treehugger” and other funeral-related organizations. These alternative funeral services are positively described by The British Humanist Association, (BHA) as ‘non-religious’ rather than ‘anti-religious’.
“Stop All The Clocks Song” is proving to be an all-rounder, judging from the initial response, from believers and non-believers alike. But this new song is mainly a valuable addition to the smaller, existing repertoire of funeral songs for humanists, non-believers and atheists. W.H. Auden is regarded by many as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. His poem is incomparable in its raw portrayal of human love and loss. It is not surprising therefore that Vanessa Ashbee, ‘Ceremonies Assistant’ at the BHA, greeted the news of this song with excitement saying, “… very interesting information about the composition.” Listen to the track here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7fsibfbdV8

Invisible Children activists are planning another viral marketing campaign aimed at the youth to sucker them into supporting war with Uganda.
The first 30-minute film attracted more than 100 million views on YouTube and proved popular with young people.
The follow-up has been made without input from the group's co-founder, who suffered a mental breakdown following publicity generated by the film.
The makers promised the sequel would contain more detail and context.
Some criticised the video for oversimplifying a complex issue. Uganda's Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi said that the video wrongly gave the impression that the country was still at war.
A recent report from the US Pew Research centre concluded that the film represented a new way for young people consume news.
It found that 40% of 18-29 year-olds had heard about the video, compared with 20% of 50-64-year-olds and 18% of 50-64-year-olds.
The younger age group was also far more likely to have viewed the video. The majority heard about it via social networks such as Twitter.

Thanks to relentless promotion by corporate media, government, celebrities and politicians of both corporate parties, along with right wing church groups and foundations, the Kony 2012 video has “gone viral.” Viewed on YouTube more than a hundred million times by now, it paints a vivid and simple picture, clear enough, its narrator says, for a five year old. But is it real, or is it propaganda, and for what purpose?
Social Media Scam Alert: Top Ten Ways to Tell Kony is Phony
by BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon
Reason #10: Invisible Children is funded by a core of notorious right wing donors
Reason #9: Invisible Children and Kony 2012 don't tell us that the Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni, one of the “good guys” in the Kony 2012 universe, shot his own way to power using an army that included enslaved child soldiers
Reason #8: Invisible Children and the Kony 2012 video also don't tell us that Uganda's Museveni replaced a president and rival general from the Acholi region
Reason #7: Invisible Children and Kony 2012 are lying when they attribute the disappearance of 30,000 missing northern Ugandan children to the LRA
Reason #6: Threats of massive foreign intervention into civil conflicts never bring adversaries to the table
Reason #5: The United States, the other “good guy” in Kony 2012's imaginary world invented the modern African child soldier in the late1970s and early 80s, so their commitment to “ending child soldiers” is a bit suspect
Reason #4: Depending on movie stars and celebrities to move public policy is the precise opposite of building the backbone and habits of a vibrant and self-aware civic movement
Reason #3: When both corporate parties, the entire corporate media universe, a constellation of celebrities and movie stars, all the right wing and much of the establishment liberal church
Reason #2: Kony 2012 and the campaign to keep US boots on the ground in Central Africa are all about the oil
Reason #1: It's all about white people, the white West and their First Black President doing their imperial and colonial thingThanks to relentless promotion by corporate media, government, celebrities and... more
YouTube Restricts Video Of Engineer Proving How Useless TSA Scanners Are
Google/YouTube has placed restrictions on yet another video that exposes the fraudulent claims of the TSA and highlights how the federal agency’s security theatre is part of a wider social manipulation agenda.
Engineer Jon Corbett of the popular blog TSA Out of Our Pants! posted a video yesterday that demonstrates how the TSA’s radiation firing body scanners can easily be bypassed.
The video shows Corbett carrying a metal case through the scanner, away from his body in his side pocket. Corbett explains that because metallic objects appear as black on the image the scanners produce, the machines do not pick up such objects if they are obscured by the background, which is also black.
Watch the video.
“The scanners are now effectively worthless, as anyone can beat them with virtually no effort.” Corbett writes on his blog. “The TSA has been provided this video in advance of it being made public to give them an opportunity to turn off the scanners and revert to the metal detectors. I personally believe they now have no choice but to turn them off.” he adds.
Within hours of the video being uploaded, blogs and news sites, including Yahoo News and the Mail Online had begun to pick up an the video, saying it was sure to go viral.
Now, despite the fact that the video contains no nudity, violence, abuse or other explicit content, YouTube has placed it behind an age restriction wall, meaning anyone who wants to view it on YouTube has to login or sign up for an account and verify their age.
