I am typing up the contents of pafes 111, 112, qnd 113 from this great book. You will be stunned to hear the truth from this great writer (John Pilger) whom the Guardian has said that "the truth in his hands is a weapon, to be picked up and brandished nd used in the struggle aainst evil and injstice.'
IJohn Pilger challenges us in the West to 'look in the mirror' at the actions of 'or' governments for the true source of much of the world's fear and insecurity - and terrorism.
John Pilger's vivid eyewittness reporting, backed by meticulous research, blows away the secrets and lies of our rulers and turns a searchlight on events consigned to shadows and an unrecognised yet virulent censorship.

Robert Fisk, my number one favourite award winning journalist and author tells us :
But up come the spoilsports, namely the Canadian "Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid", to suggest that the scrolls, originally in the hands of the Jordanian Department of Antiquities and the Ecole Biblique Française, were "confiscated and illegally removed by Israel" in 1967. The Royal Ontario Museum, the protesters say, is showing "looted" property which it has no right to exhibit. The Palestinian Authority itself has intervened, arguing that the museum is "displaying artefacts removed from the Palestinian territories".
The story of the discovery of the scrolls is, of course, well known. An Arab Bedouin boy, Mohamed el-Dib, found them at Khirbet Qumran in a cave in what is now the occupied West Bank of Palestine in 1947, and handed them over to a cobbler turned antiquities dealer called Khalil Eskander Shahin in Jerusalem; they eventually ended up in the hands of scholars – mostly American – in the Jordanian side of Jerusalem. Then came the 1967 war and the arrival of the Israeli army in East Jerusalem and... well, you can imagine the rest.
So cautious are the dear old Canadians – who should by now have learned that concealing unhappy truths will only create fire and pain – that they do not even mention that "Kando", the first recipient of the scrolls, was Armenian. Of course not. Because then they would have to explain why an Armenian was in Jerusalem, not in western Turkey. Which would mean that they would have to mention the Armenian Holocaust of 1915 (one and a half million Armenian civilians murdered by Ottoman Turks).Robert Fisk, my number one favourite award winning journalist and author tells us :... more

For the tabloids, and sometimes the broadsheets too, have long used various tricks to find a fact or uncover a story.
And for some, these dark arts - dressing up, following people, eavesdropping, fibbing - add a frisson of John Grisham-style excitement to the job.

From the article:
"I just watched San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's June 11, 2009 interview on Al Gore's internet Current TV, about what Current called his "Green Ticket," with a capital "G," gubernatorial campaign, even though the San Francisco Green Party ran Matt Gonzalez against Newsom in the 2003 mayor's race, and, has not endorsed [Gavin Newsome], to say the least.
One of the Mayor's first claims was that he'd finally taken action, that day, to stop the "trash poachers" who pluck redeemable bottles and cans out of the big blue cans labeled "recycling," before the city's trucks can come to pick them up off the sidewalks on garbage pickup days.
No wonder he's trying so hard to hike police and sheriff's budgets while slashing human services to all the most vulnerable people in San Francisco, including the trash poachers, many of whom are homeless.
Did he mention:
1) The pressure on California's ban on nuclear power power plant construction?
2) The pressure on California's ban on new offshore oil and gas drilling?
3) Assembly Bill 656, the proposed oil and gas severance tax to fund higher education, with emphasis on the science and technology of renewable energy?
4) California's hypocritical, polllution exports to the native Southwest, in the form of contracts for coal-fired power, purchased on the Southwest Grid, and, to Baja California, in the form of LNG Terminals and pipelines bringing natural gas to Southern California, and, possibly, in the future, in the form of LNG Terminals and pipelines in Oregon, California's less wealthy, and, mostly rural, northern neighbor, bringing natural gas to Northern California? Or, to Africa, Indonesia, aboriginal Australia, all of which host uranium mines, and natural gas wells which produce for export to California?"
5) The enormous quanitites of electricity, nuclear and hydroelectric power, most often in the Global South, required to smelt aluminum used to manufacture the electric cars that Gavin Newsom and Arnold Schwarzenegger both promote as the solution to global warming?
No, no, no, no, and no, though many environmentalists would say that pressure on the bans on nuclear power plant construction and offshore oil drilling, and, the oil and gas severance tax to fund renewables, are among the largest environmental issues in California.
Did he mention the environmentally destructive War on Terror, or the U.S. military, the world's largest consumer of fossil fuels, including coal-to-liquid (CTL) transportation fuel? Not on Current TV. And, if Gavin Newsom has ever said a word against the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War, the Congo War, or any other front in the perpetual War on Terror, I haven't heard it and don't know anyone else who has.
In 2005, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to fly the U.S. flag over City Hall at half mast, in honor of the Iraq War dead, of whatever nationality, but Mayor Newsom would not allow it."From the article:

A standard bicycle pump is all that's required to power a DNA purifying kit, designed by Catherine Klapperich and her students at Boston University. The thermos-size device, dubbed SNAP (System for Nucleic Acid Preparation), extracts genetic material from blood and other bodily fluids by pumping fluid through a polymer-lined straw designed to trap DNA. A user can then pop the straw out and mail it to the nearest lab, where the preserved DNA can be analyzed for suspicious bacteria, viruses, and genetic diseases.

TANSTAAFL is an acronym that means "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." Or in other words "Freedom isn't free, it requires a price to be paid." The acronym is taken from a science fiction book entitled "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" written by a patriot named Robert Anson Heinlein.
I mention this because it is the essence of the message that is conveyed in an email that has been circulating on the internet due to the recent 4th of July holiday. It is a reminder that many sacrifices were made by our Founding Fathers through the Declaration of Independence and the subsequent Revolutionary War.
It is also timely because our country, our republic has been demonstrating signs of being very sick and on the verge of collapse because we as a people have lost sight of our common good. We have been manipulated by the money masters to turn on each other and ascribe to the mentality of "dog eat dog". I realize this is a generality, there are indeed many people who are not of this mentality, but I am speaking in terms of the overall systemic condition. This "dog eat dog" mentality is the mainstay of most Capitalist undertakings, as they are only beholden to their stockholders.
However, I would argue that they do have a responsibility to each and every citizen of the United States, because we are unrecognized stockholders in the future of our nation and those that benefit from its capitalist free market economy. Perhaps America should be a stockholder in every single Corporation because of the privilege they, the corporations, enjoy through their "Artificial Person" status as was decreed by Nobel Prize winning Economist, Milton Friedman (a prophet and demigod of the Neo Capitalist).
The message that is circulating is copied here below:
What do you think? Is the country ripe for a new revolution? Do people care about the nation the way the founding fathers did? Are people willing to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of others? Has the 4th of July lost its meaning in favor of BBQ's and Fireworks? Do you think that America should be a stockholder in all corporations operating within her borders? Should corporations be allowed to have the rights of real people but not the same responsibilities as real people?TANSTAAFL is an acronym that means "There ain't no such thing as a free... more

What happens when United States citizens are deprived the legal protections of law, law enforcement and the judicial system? When documented crimes are willfully ignored by those people who are supposed to enforce the law and bring justice?
Does it happen? Absolutely. Why? Political expediency; ambition over morality; dishonesty; immorality; corruption; complicity; incompetence; stupidity; etc., etc....
What happens when the very people empowered, who collect handsome salaries specifically for protecting American's rights violate the law themselves?
Worse yet, what happens when there is no accountability for the actions of public servants who violate the law, violate American's civil rights? When other governmental agencies refuse or neglect to act on or protect the rights of American's against rouge public servants?
Do Americans deserve better? Do you deserve better? If you don't demand your rights, are you still entitled to them?
If California's Attorney General Jerry Brown, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley or his underling Dave Demerjian with the Public Integrity Unit, California's BAR Association, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger or how about Senator Dianne Feinstein, member of the Senate Judiciary Committee or even the FBI were presented documented evidence of corruption, criminal wrong doing on the part of the City Attorney and deputy City Attorney would they act on it? Should they act on it?
If documented evidence of felony offenses and Federal offenses were presented to them, would they act for the good of the country, society and constituents? What if everyone ignored the documented evidence long enough for the perpetrators (public servants empowered to uphold the law) crimes to run out the statue of limitations?

Captain James I. Dudley

“Arm yourself….with knowledge!”
Captain’s Comments;
This will be the last newsletter by me for a few weeks. Lt. Rich Pate will be Acting Captain until July 13 when I return. If you miss a newsletter, try checking www.thebarbarycoastnews.com for current and archived police reports.
The Forth of July event at Fisherman’s Wharf tuned out to be a great night. Except for a few arrests for disorderly conduct, everything went smooth. The officers assigned to the event did an outstanding job with pedestrian and traffic control. There were well over 500,000 in attendance. A special thanks to DPT, Fire, Paramedics, Marine Unit, Police Dispatch, Coast Guard and all who helped with this event.
I would also like to acknowledge the hard work in putting this event together by Sgt. John Colla and his staff. There is an enormous amount of pre-planning for an event of this magnitude. Sgt Colla and his staff did an outstanding job.
Captain Dudley will return next week. This is the first time I have been an Acting Captain for two weeks. I have learned there is a lot of time spent with correspondence
with the community and the Command Staff. I have enjoyed the past two weeks and look forward to working with all of you in the future.

We've already written about Curitiba's great Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, but that's not all the Brazilian city has to teach us. Our friends at StreetFilms write: "In 1972 under the direction of then Mayor Jaime Lerner, it became the first major pedestrian street in Brazil. The first phase of closing the street took place in only 72 hours. At first the project was unpopular, but today is seen as a success and spans 15 blocks." "Electric Vehicles" Mostly Means Electric Bikes, So Far...
Petrobras, the semi-public Brazilian oil giant (the government of Brazil owns 55.7% of Petrobras' common shares with voting rights), has just built the first of what it hopes will be many electric charging stations. It is located in the Barra de Tijuca neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro because that area has the most electric motorcycles and bikes in circulation in the country.

Staring at the camera, Shona Holmes says a brain tumor would have killed her had she relied on her Canadian, government-run health plan that would have provided treatment far too late. "Now, Washington wants to bring Canadian-style health care to the U.S.," a narrator says darkly.
The television ad from a conservative group is dramatic — but deceptive.
In fact, President Barack Obama and Democrats pushing to overhaul health care want to create an optional, government-run plan to compete with private insurers but not replace them. As Obama told a health forum last week, "We're not suddenly just going to completely upend the system. We want to build on what works about the system and fix what's broken about the system."
The ad is part of a handful of commercials that are expected to grow this summer in both numbers and criticism as detailed health bills emerge from Congress and dozens of interest groups, companies and labor unions tussle over influencing lawmakers.
Millions spent on TV ads
Through June 27, $31 million has been spent for roughly 47,000 TV ads on health care this year, says Evan Tracey, president of the Campaign Media Analysis Group, a firm that tracks issue advertising. That's double the roughly $14 million the insurance industry spent in 1993 and 1994 for the famous "Harry and Louise" ads credited with helping kill President Bill Clinton's health care drive, but a fraction of the $250 million Tracey guesses will ultimately be spent this year.
Hoping to shape the early debate, the initial ads are "really being aimed at some people in the administration, some people on Capitol Hill, a whole bunch of reporters, a few bloggers," Tracey said. As Congress' direction becomes clearer and interest groups seek public support, "then I think you're going to see the spending go on a hockey stick curve straight up," he said.
So far, Tracey said about $15 million has been spent on ads favoring the Democrats' push to revamp the health care system and $4 million to oppose it. Another $12 million has gone to ads generally favoring better health care — nearly all of it by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, representing drug makers, which hopes its market will expand if more people have insurance.
These figures might be too low, with several groups reporting higher figures reflecting costs Tracey doesn't track.
'It's setting the table'
Ken Johnson, spokesman for the pharmaceutical group, says the association has spent tens of millions on television ads since late 2008, thanking lawmakers for supporting previous health initiatives or urging them to support a comprehensive effort this year.
"It's conditioning the environment, it's setting the table for the debate to come," he said.Staring at the camera, Shona Holmes says a brain tumor would have killed her had she... more

Netanyahu reaffirms commitment to racism and expansionism – thanks to US tax dollars
Saree Makdisi argues that if Israel is ever to agree to anything for the Palestinians other than “an amorphous entity lacking a definite territory, not allowed to control its own borders or airspace, shorn of any vestige of sovereignty ... and permanently disarmed”, then Americans must demand an end to their leaders’ indulgence of Israel.

The White House signaled a willingness Monday to compromise on details of a public plan to compete with private insurance companies as negotiators sought ways to advance health-care legislation.
A senior administration official said one way to meet President Barack Obama's goals would be a mechanism under which a public plan is introduced only if the marketplace fails to provide sufficient competition on its own.
Mr. Obama has pushed hard for a public option, saying it will keep the insurance industry honest, but he has also said he won't draw a "line in the sand."
The official noted that congressional Republicans created a similar mechanism when they introduced a prescription-drug benefit in Medicare. In that case, private competition has been judged sufficient and the public option has never gone into effect. The White House signaled a willingness Monday to compromise on details of a public... more

The US House of Representatives on Friday narrowly passed historic legislation to cut carbon emissions blamed for climate change, handing President Barack Obama a hard-fought victory.
After hours of bitter debate, lawmakers voted 219-212 to put the US economy under a "cap-and-trade" system in a move supporters said would restore shaky US leadership on the issue of global warming.
The pitched political battle on how best to address the problem now shifts to the US Senate, which is not expected to take any major steps before a self-imposed mid-September deadline for laying out legislation.
The House's "American Clean Energy and Security Act" aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020, and 83 percent by 2050, create "green" jobs and wean the US economy from oil imports.
"Just remember these four words for what this legislation means -- jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. Let's vote for jobs," Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi exhorted her colleagues minutes before the vote.
Her comments came after Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner, relying on traditional House perks for party leaders, stretched an allotted two minutes to speak about the measure into a one-hour, one-minute intervention.
The 1,200-page bill, the fruit of months of tough negotiations, would create a "cap-and-trade" system limiting overall pollution from large industrial sources and then allocating and selling pollution permits.
The Democratic-crafted bill would require utilities, by 2020, to get 15 percent of their electricity from renewable resources -- solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass -- and show annual energy savings of five percent from efficiency measures.
The European Union plan calls for getting 20 percent of all electricity from renewable resources by 2020.The US House of Representatives on Friday narrowly passed historic legislation to cut... more
