President-elect Barack Obama's election has spurred a surge in gun sales, firearms retailers and enthusiasts say, as gun owners brace for what they believe will be a new era of gun control in Washington.
An electronic news service that covers outdoor news has even named Obama its "Gun Salesman of the Year."
Firearms associations began to suspect that political considerations were driving gun sales late last year as the number of background checks increased. But end-of-year figures showed a big spike in background checks for the last three months of 2008, and in November, the month Obama was elected, the number of background checks was 42 percent greater than in November 2007.
"It's not a hard tea leaf to read," said Jim Shepherd, publisher of the news service Outdoor Wire, which claims Obama's election has "frightened consumers into action."
Obama has repeatedly stated that he supports Second Amendment rights and will not crack down on gun owners, and in June he said he agreed with the Supreme Court when it overturned the District of Columbia handgun ban.
But gun groups are not convinced. They say Obama's legislative record in support of gun control, and his offhand remark during the primaries that small-town Americans are "bitter" and "cling to their guns," foretell a strict approach to firearms regulation during his presidency.
A December poll from Southwick Associates found that 80 percent of hunters and shooters expect the new administration and a Democratic Congress will make purchasing firearms more difficult.
"It's clear that gun owners and prospective gun owners are concerned about the incoming Obama administration and Congress," said Ted Novin, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
According to FBI statistics, there were 12.7 million background checks on prospective gun buyers last year, compared with 11.2 million the year before. While checks typically increase toward the end of the year, they spiked sharply at the end of 2008. The figures show a 27 percent increase in the last three months of 2008 over 2007.
"We always anticipate a spike .... This year compared to previous years, the last two months there was a significant increase," said FBI spokesman Paul Bresson.
He said it's "possible" that fears about the economy and the incoming administration played a role, though he said the FBI cannot track the actual reason behind the background checks. Also, background checks are not a direct reflection of gun sales -- but since statistics on national gun sales are not kept the background checks are typically used as an indicator.
"Speculation and conclusions that economic uncertainty or a certain political leadership spurs an increase in firearm sales is anecdotal," said one source at the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
But the ATF posted a notice recently saying it was running low on the self-disclosure forms needed when firearms purchases are made, "as a result of an unprecedented increase in demand" for the forms.
Firearms associations appear to be stoking the purchasing frenzy.

ROANOKE, Va., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Investigators of U.S. white supremacists are calling for more attention to be paid to hate groups spurred by the poor economy and the election Barack Obama.
As the economy worsens and the nation's first African-American president prepares to take office, a veteran Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives undercover agent says hate groups are becoming more active, The Washington Post (NYSE:WPO) reported Sunday.
"In society, you have a very small number of people who are going to push the envelope and take it to the next step," said Bart McIntyre of Roanoke, Va., who is retiring after tracking white supremacist movements for 20 years.
U.S. prosecutors in Roanoke last month filed criminal charges against William White of a group called the American National Socialist Workers Party, who allegedly sent racist letters to the homes of black tenants involved in a housing discrimination lawsuit, the Post said.
Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center told the newspaper the economic downturn and the rise of the Internet as a communications medium have combined with "the final insult -- a black man in the White House," to produce new threats.ROANOKE, Va., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Investigators of U.S. white supremacists are calling... more

Pueblo officer accused in accidental shooting
The Pueblo County sheriff's office says a woman was injured after she was accidentally shot by her husband, an off-duty Pueblo police officer.
The sheriff's office says deputies responded to a report of an accidental shooting at the couple's home at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday.
The woman, Robin Vaughn, was transported to Parkview Medical Center, where she was treated for a gunshot wound to her torso.
Authorities say a preliminary investigation showed Vaughn's husband, Pueblo police officer Stephen Vaughn, had just finished cleaning a pistol when it discharged.
The two were in separate rooms at the time, and the round struck Robin Vaughn after traveling through a wall.
The case is being investigated by the sheriff's office and will be sent to the district attorney's office for reviewPueblo officer accused in accidental shooting

Watching The Dark Knight was mind blowing, the dark realism mixed with the correct mythology of Batman of this film was like I wasn't watching a Superhero movie but was watching a classic play like tragedy of Titus.
But the one quote they really got me was the speech to Harvey Dent aka Two-face, now if you havn't seen it dont read. because I do post spoilers
BUT Harvey is in Gotham General and Joker just escaped the Major crime unit center, dressed as a female nurse with red-hair wig he sneaks into the room.
sits quietly and say "Hiiii" looking in disgust at Hervey's burnt face.
tells him it wasn't anything personal and Dent says it was all part of his plan to which the Joker gives a speech going
"Do I really look like a man with a plan, Harvey? I don't have a plan. The mob has plans, the cops have plans. You know what I am, Harvey? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught one.I just DO things. I'm a wrench in the gears. I HATE plans. Yours, theirs, everyone's. Maroni has plans. Gordon has plans. Schemers trying to control their worlds. I am not a schemer. I show schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are. So when I say that what happened to you and your girlfriend wasn't personal, you know I'M telling the truth."
JOKER GIVES DENT GUN.
"It's a schemer who put you where you are. You were a schemer. You had plans. Look where it got you. I just did what I do best-I took your plan and turned it on itself. Look what I have done to this city with a few drums of gas and a couple bullets. Nobody panics when the expected people get killed. Nobody panics when things go according to plan, even if the plans are horrifying. If I tell the press that tomorrow a gangbanger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will get blown up, nobody panics. But when I say one little old mayor will die, everyone loses their minds!!! Introduce a little anarchy, you upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I AM AN AGENT OF CHAOS. And you know the thing about chaos, Harvey. It's fair"
That speech was so fucking great showing fact in Human nature
we LOVE order, we LOVE to know what ahead of us
It's normal, but the problem with that is, we're so safe and so calm with our plans that if one thing comes to MAYBE even getting in the way we lose it.
Case example.
2.15.1898 tensions with Spain over the revolution in Cuba and Spain refusing to peacefully end it, and of Course we as Human HAD A PLAN. USS Main was sent to help. Ok everything is flowing good till a rock hits the stream of calm and the uss main blows up, now the explosion was simply a coal bunker fire, but one little word by one man named William Randolph Hearst on a paper comes out
WAR SPAIN ATTACKS AMERICA and bam a war between nations is born.
Now lets get Modern now, we have order, we live in a threat of an attack BUT GOD DAMN IT, we have a plan and we like to see ahead of it.
Whats that? Oil Prices will go up because insurgents are growing? OH MY GOD! i better get gas and stock up before it gets bad.
So He runs and opens his mouth, the neghbor hears, his wife hears, she calls her friend she tells her girlfriend, and she calls her son
soon we have hundres of people running to fill up on gas out of fear we will lose it and what happends the prices go up and now we're fucked.
but we like to blame everyone else, I mean it CAN'T possibly be our fault that prices gone up...RIGHT?Watching The Dark Knight was mind blowing, the dark realism mixed with the correct... more

Now before you read this, let it be known there is a Differnce between a Social Conservative and a Money Conservative
this is the tale of the retard Social
Tucson, Arizona) A conservative legal group is calling on lawyers to oppose a proposed revision to the Arizona Bar Association oath of office that pledges equal representation to LGBT clients.
The Alliance Defense Fund calls the proposal “unconstitutional.”
The proposed revision to the oath states: “I will not permit considerations of gender, race, religion, age, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or social standing to influence my duty of care.”
It must still be approved by the bar association.
The ADF, which is based in Arizona and regularly opposes LGBT rights in courts across the country, said it is particularly concerned about the inclusion of “sexual orientation” in the revised oath.
In a letter to bar association president Edward Novak, the ADF and other conservative lawyers said that “the proposed provision is unnecessary, exceedingly ambiguous, and unconstitutional.”
“We are concerned most particularly that the proposed provision’s vagueness violates due-process and free-speech guarantees and that its application infringes First Amendment rights by compelling conduct and expression in conflict with an attorney’s philosophical or religious beliefs as well as his other professional responsibilities.”
The letter, signed by more than 30 conservative attorneys in the state, said that lawyers who refuse to take the oath or violate it could have their licenses revoked.
“[T]he proposed provision, unlike any other part of the Arizona Bar Oath or Ethics Rules, may be interpreted to force an attorney to undertake particular representation.”
The letter calls on Novak to abandon the revision and warns that if it passes it would be challenged in court. Now before you read this, let it be known there is a Differnce between a Social... more

Imagine a world where police have the ability to fire pain ray guns at protesters that instantly cause them excruciating pain as soon as they are activated.
Imagine a world where police have the ability to torture from a distance anyone they want at the touch of a button.
Does that sound like something out of a science fiction novel?
It's not.
It is in the final stages of development and could soon be a reality on the streets of America.
NewScientist is reporting that the U.S. Department of Justice is developing two portable "non-lethal" weapons that inflict severe pain from a distance using either microwave technology or laser beams.
According to that report, the intention of the U.S. Department of Justice is to put these pain ray weapons into the hands of police on the streets of America.
Some observers are very upset about this development, as they claim that giving police the ability to instantly torture anyone they want from a distance is a very dangerous thing to do.
Others are applauding the development of these new "non-lethal" weapons as a step away from the use of "lethal" weapons by police.
All of this comes a couple of months after a report that the U.S. Army will be deploying mobile pain ray trucks (called the Active Denial System) that have the capability to instantly fry the flesh of whole crowds of protesters using microwave technology.
Imagine that.
A whole crowd of rioters actually being cooked like they are in a microwave oven.
Frightening stuff.
Instead of finding more ways to torture and kill one another, perhaps we all should be looking for more ways to love each other.Imagine a world where police have the ability to fire pain ray guns at protesters that... more

LOS ANGELES — Actor and one-time Phoenix resident David Spade has donated $100,000 to the Phoenix Police Department. The department will use the much needed funds to buy high-powered rifles to defend the city from the growing influence of Mexican drug cartels.
Through his publicist, Spade explained that "these guys need to be able to do their jobs, and I am just happy I could help."
Spade says he got the idea for the donation after seeing a story on FOX News. Phoenix police say Spade called asking to donate to their rifle program after he saw that officers, outgunned and desperate for more firepower, wanted to buy their own semi-automatic rifles.
“Mr. Spade has stepped forward and has given a gift to our officers of increased safety," said Police Chief Jack Harris. "I am thrilled that we were able to accept that money that will hopefully bring us to 300 rifles on the street.”
Phoenix Police Sgt. Alan Hill says 50 AR-15 rifles to be purchased with the donation will be given to patrol officers.
Spade, 44, grew up in the Phoenix area and graduated from Arizona State University. The "Rules of Engagement" star has helped out cops before, donating $25,000 to the family of a fallen Phoenix police officer last year.LOS ANGELES — Actor and one-time Phoenix resident David Spade has donated... more

Americans have cut back on buying cars, furniture and clothes in a tough economy, but there's one consumer item that's still enjoying healthy sales: guns. Purchases of firearms and ammunition have risen 8 to 10 percent this year, according to state and federal data.
Several variables drive sales, but many dealers, buyers and experts attribute the increase in part to concerns about the economy and fears that if Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois wins the presidency, he will join with fellow Democrats in Congress to enact new gun controls. Obama has said that he believes in an individual right to bear arms but that he also supports "common-sense safety measures."
"Even though [Obama] has a lot going for him, he's not very pro-gun," said Paul Pluff, a spokesman for Massachusetts-based Smith & Wesson, which has reported higher sales. Gun enthusiasts are "going to go out and get [firearms] while they still can."

A gun rights group is calling on Gov. Ed Rendell to "order a halt to unlawful police-state tactics at presidential campaign events" after a Beaver County man was arrested Friday for openly carrying a gun near where Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama later made an appearance.
The group, OpenCarry.org, accused state police of suspending the right to bear arms in Beaver by arresting John Noble, 50, of Industry. State police said Noble would be charged with disorderly conduct for carrying a loaded, holstered and exposed 9 mm semiautomatic because he breached a secured perimeter of a presidential candidate rally, creating alarm and causing a breakdown in security.
OpenCarry.org says Noble was not at the Obama event, did not attempt to enter the event area and broke no law.

"You don't want people who are violent carrying firearms," said Troy Eid, U.S. Attorney for Colorado and a leader in the expanded crime-fighting effort.-
To develop more cases, Pueblo police a few months ago set up a joint operation with agents of the principal federal gun law enforcement agency, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The police department dedicated two officers and the ATF assigned two agents to work as a team at police headquarters, Deputy Police Chief John Ercul said. The agents previously worked at the bureau's Colorado Springs office. Ercul said the arrangement is an asset in the department's crime-fighting cabinet.

I love the above video - guns are for girls too, not just for boys. My wife loves to go shooting at the gun range almost as much as I do, and when my daughter is older I'm sure she'll enjoy joining us.
My blog is about news and editorials related to the shooting sports, the 2nd Amendment, and the right to keep & bear arms (RKBA).
The Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights:
A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall NOT BE INFRINGED.
Just as a side note, the Militia is NOT any of the existing branches US Military which actually make up what is considered to be a professional "Standing Army" - the US Militia is a defined group of citizens in the US - specifically defined in our constitution to be all able bodied citizens from the age of 19 through 40.I love the above video - guns are for girls too, not just for boys.
