It was the tweet heard around the fashion world. On September 11th Miss Deyn twittered, "I have black hair!!!!!!! Emo!!!!!!". We are still adjusting to her mod-goth appearance. We are not loving the weightiness of the shade along with her new cut that is too reminiscent of an early Beatles mop top. It is the 25th Anniversary of London Fashion Week and the only icon we can think of that is as British as the Queen is Vivienne Westwood and her English fashion sense. While her edge has softened a bit over the years, her Red Label, which she presented yesterday on the catwalk, still cuts a dashing figure. We loved Westwood's take on business dressing (above). Her spin on the traditional navy suit is smart, edgy, and we think very wearable. The same can be said for the dress below. The piece maintains its softness yet has a tiny hint of severity- perfect. The only sour note for us is the diaper like shorts she introduced. We don't expect to see this silhouette knocked-off ever. The Daily Mail put one of their reporters in a fat suit and a frumpy frock and sent her to London Fashion Week to see how people would react to her. Not surprisingly, she got loads of attention from the under weight over styled crowds in attendance... the negative kind. She was given looks, pointed at, laughed at and at the end of the day couldn't take another minute of feeling like "a circus freak" and had to leave.
Now, I'm not surprised by what she experienced at all. The fashion world has never pretended to have room for plus sized people. I'm more surprised by the Daily Mail feeling that they had to strap someone in a fat suit to get this story... actually, who am I kidding. The British Fashion Council, which runs London Fashion Week, has said it has ditched a plan to demand health certificates proving models do not have anorexia.
The idea came out of the Model Health Inquiry, set up by the BFC in March last year to investigate health problems suffered by models in the British fashion industry, following a furore over "size zero" super-skinny models.
New York, Paris and Milan -- other centres of the fashion industry -- have said the plan is unworkable.

A major model agent has laid bare the racial discrimination the fashion industry is riddled with.
Premier Model Management's Carole White admitted that finding work for black clients was significantly harder than for the white models, as magazines and designers were reluctant to employ them. Models from ethnic backgrounds 'have to be perfect because we can't have a lot of diversity with black models.' At style.com, three shows chosen at random featured black models in eight out of 136 photographs taken during the week. The March issue of Vogue – with more than 400 pages of editorial and advertising – has 14 shots with black or Asian women – two of them featuring Naomi Campbell. Is this an issue industry insiders should work to tackle, or is it just a case of giving people what they want?
