Grateful Dead to Celebrate Jerry Garcia's Life at San Francisco Giants Baseball Game
To remember the 15th anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death, the San Francisco Giants have planned an impressive list of events for the team's face-off with the Chicago Cubs on August 9th.
Garcia's bandmate Bob Weir will sing the National Anthem prior to the game while drummer Mickey Hart will attempt to break the world record for largest kazoo ensemble during a performance of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" for that night's seventh inning stretch.
On top of that, the Giants will hand over the field to Dead cover bands to perform before the game and Garcia's daughter Annabelle will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Each year, Garcia is remembered in his hometown of San Francisco for the week of August 1st — but this year's event might be the most over-the-top yet.
For the Deadheads who can't make it out to the game, check out Garcia and Weir's performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" from a 1993 Giants game in Candlestick Park.Posted: July 9, 2010 1:13 P.M. EDT | By Daniel Kreps (Rolling Stone)

As the Dead prepare for their first tour since 2004, they're determined that an auction of prime seats will raise money for charities as well as put those tickets in the hands of fans, not scalpers.
"We want to keep away from all of that," percussionist Mickey Hart told Billboard.com. "You always keep your fingers crossed that the bad guys don't get in there and turn profits for themselves." Tickets have been turning up on secondary sale sites such as Tickets Now and StubHub, but the Dead has decided not to offer Platinum Tickets through Ticketmaster. As the Dead prepare for their first tour since 2004, they're determined that an... more
