THERE is an ongoing debate in this country about the rich: who they are, what their social role may be, whether they are good or bad. Well, consider the following. A recent study found that 10 percent of people who work on Wall Street are “clinical psychopaths,” exhibiting a lack of interest in and empathy for others and an “unparalleled capacity for lying, fabrication, and manipulation.” (The proportion at large is 1 percent.) Another study concluded that the rich are more likely to lie, cheat and break the law.
The only thing that puzzles me about these claims is that anyone would find them surprising. Wall Street is capitalism in its purest form, and capitalism is predicated on bad behavior. This should hardly be news. The English writer Bernard Mandeville asserted as much nearly three centuries ago in a satirical-poem-cum-philosophical-treatise called “The Fable of the Bees.”

Ayn Rand’s “philosophy” is nearly perfect in its immorality, which makes the size of her audience all the more ominous and symptomatic as we enter a curious new phase in our society….To justify and extol human greed and egotism is to my mind not only immoral, but evil.— Gore Vidal, 1961
Thanks in part to Rand, the United States is one of the most uncaring nations in the industrialized world.
Only rarely in U.S. history do writers transform us to become a more caring or less caring nation. In the 1850s, Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) was a strong force in making the United States a more humane nation, one that would abolish slavery of African Americans. A century later, Ayn Rand (1905-1982) helped make the United States into one of the most uncaring nations in the industrialized world, a neo-Dickensian society where healthcare is only for those who can afford it, and where young people are coerced into huge student-loan debt that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy.
Rand’s impact has been widespread and deep. At the iceberg’s visible tip is the influence she’s had over major political figures who have shaped American society. In the 1950s, Ayn Rand read aloud drafts of what was later to become Atlas Shrugged to her “Collective,” Rand’s ironic nickname for her inner circle of young individualists, which included Alan Greenspan, who would serve as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board from 1987 to 2006.
In 1966, Ronald Reagan wrote in a personal letter, “Am an admirer of Ayn Rand.” Today, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) credits Rand for inspiring him to go into politics, and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) calls Atlas Shrugged his “foundation book.” Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) says Ayn Rand had a major influence on him, and his son Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is an even bigger fan. A short list of other Rand fans includes Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas; Christopher Cox, chairman of the Security and Exchange Commission in George W. Bush’s second administration; and former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford.
But Rand’s impact on U.S. society and culture goes even deeper.

SARAJEVO -- Two intoxicated youths duct-taped a firework in a German shepherd's mouth and blew off his face. But the torture didn't stop there. The poor dog, known as Vucko, wandered for five days, unable to eat and with maggots infecting the meaty pulp of his ruined face. Vucko was finally picked up by authorities and euthanized after vets were unable to perform reconstructive surgery.
Click on the link in the story if you can bear viewing EXTREMELY GRAPHIC footage of Vucko being examined by vets. Notice the firework's shell casing still embedded in the dog's head.
We must bring the animal abusers to justice and ensure that this inhumanity is never repeated; sadly, animal welfare laws are practically nonexistent in much of Eastern Europe. Sign this petition urging Bosnian authorities to hunt down the guilty parties, expose the severity of animal abuse, and create proper legislation that will protect animals.

There comes a times in the lives of men
When the ruthless and the criminally insane
Who rule the masses for their own gain
Make the fatal mistake of enjoying too much
Their psychopathic entertainment
They lose control in their lust for blood
And take too far their need to tread men down
By destroying any sense of a secure life
And taking away each and every freedom
Stealing the last piece of wealth they possess
So they cannot even care for their own
Stifling their voice with laws and corruption
Beating them down with rule by force
Where no justice exists for those being played
And there is no direction left for men to turn
When this insane game is taken this far
Comes the time when men have nothing left to lose
This is the time when the minds of men are freed
It is a time when man loses his fear of death
This is the time when a man becomes invincible
He becomes free to do whatever he must do
Without fear for his life or for his future
He will take control of the destiny of the world
Away from the bloodied hands of the soulless
Any action he takes he will take with a surety
That he must do something for he has no future
So the act he chooses will be all the greater
For when faced with oblivion and with no way out
He will take down as many of his oppressors with him
Gladly die in a selfless act to change the world's future
This day is coming soon as it always does
The perverse minds of evil always self destruct
As their addiction to our suffering can never be sated
Exerting control for their paranoia and fear of men
For every good man will take down these brutes
Every free man will give up himself for his brothers
For a man with nothing left becomes fully empowered
And he is the most unassailable weapon against evil

Robbie knew he was smart, his parents and everyone else said so. He also learned he could get away with things. There was the time that he killed 'Ms Boots', the family cat. Caught her one day in the back yard and rammed a sharp stick in her chest, watched her eyes widen in hurt and astonishment before the light went out of them. That excited him and he liked the feeling of power. He stuck the stick into the garden with her body on top, and told his parents that she'd gone after a bird, didn't see the sharp stick and landed on it. He was only 5 at the time.
Fast forward 10 years, Robbie had done very well in school, knew how to tell all the teachers what they wanted to hear, and tested well because he was smart. He also made sure he got ahead, whatever it took. Crazy glue in Jimmy's laptop ports was just a prank, right? And nobody saw him do it, so it didn't happen in his school record.
Another five years gone, and Robbie's on top of the world, college is going swimmingly and he's learned how to subtly trash his peers while appearing upright and eager to please all of his professors. He even gets selected for an elite leadership program, quite exclusive.
In the psychology lab in the stale smelling basement of an old hall, Robbie's professor says, "This is real, it's no longer a simulation." And he asks, "Are you up to doing this?" Of course, Robbie eagerly says, "Yes!" He has no idea what's to come but he likes to think of himself as very adaptive.
They enter a room with a window into another small room, in which there's another young man, strapped to a chair. The professor says, "It's a one-way mirror, he can't see you." Then he says, "This is a condemned criminal. To see if you're fit to lead, we ask you to push the button to execute him." He asks, "Can you do it?" Well, Robbie has no qualms about killing another human being, but he's learned enough to know that normal humans aren't meant to enjoy killing, so he hesitates a bit for effect and feigns nervousness saying, "Yeah... I can do it."
Robbie steps up to the window. There's a button on a console there. The professor says, "Go ahead." Without hesitation, Robbie pushes the button. Electricity flows, and the young man in the other room stiffens, jerks and finally goes limp.
He shrugs, glances at his professor and asks, "Is that it?" The older man hesitates a second, then asks, "Do you want to know what he did?" Robbie, thinking he's just punched another ticket into the elite club, says, "Yeah, I guess so, what did he do?"
The professor says, "He was a psychopath, he executed a young man just like himself without asking beforehand for any proof, or to see an order from a court that he was condemned to die."
He stopped, looked hard at Robbie and said, "Like you just did."
Without further ado, the professor calls out: "Guards, take him!"

Psychopaths are viciously destructive in action. They obfuscate with lies and charm. They persist only when their actions are unrecognized; 95% of the population reject such criminal destruction (here and here).
US political and economic “leadership” are psychopaths because their central policies are viciously destructive, as the following links explain, document, and prove. “Leadership” obfuscate with lies, charm, and US corporate media complicity.
Calling this behavior psychopathic is perfect because it neither understates nor overstates the facts. Use this academic term at your command. I also suggest Princeton professor Frankfurt’s academic term for the type of lies that “leadership” uses: bullshit.

Dr. Robert Hare claims there are 300,000 psychopaths in Canada, but that only a tiny fraction are violent offenders like Paul Bernardo and Clifford Olsen. Who are the rest? Take a look around....
According to popular wisdom, psychopaths are crazed and bloodthirsty serial killers. The reality is not so simple. While many psychopaths do commit violent crimes, not all psychopaths are criminals and not all criminals are psychopathic. Psychopaths are found in many walks of life and are often successful in competitive professions. However they are also ruthless, manipulative and destructive. Equinox reports on techniques developed by psychologists to work out whether a person is psychopathic and shows how brain scientists are coming close to mapping the malfunctions in the brain that cause a person to be a psychopath.
In Britain one person in 200 is likely to be a psychopath. However psychopaths are thought to be responsible for half of all reported crimes and to make up between 15% and 20% of the prison population. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/recent-news/11914-psychopaths-among-usDr. Robert Hare claims there are 300,000 psychopaths in Canada, but that only a tiny... more

Goldman evidently is fantastic at betting on disasters. As most everybody knows, Goldman Sucks sold clients bets that the housing market would boom while they themselves bet against the housing market.
The result–Their bet paid off big time. They got the gold and America got the shaft.
Now the joke is that they bet against the Gulf of Mexico and oil rigs.
“One oil rig goes down and we’re going to be rolling in dough,” Mr. Tourre wrote in one email. “Suck it, fishies and birdies!”
Maybe the are betting against nuke plants right now. Oops, watch out for another 3 Mile Island.
Perhaps Goldman is also setting up bets on the survival of humanity. I am sure they are smart betters and are betting against our survival. The coming collapse of the eco-system and the massive die off should give them a big payoff. But even if they lose the bet, the American taxpayer will be there with a help up of several trillions.
Banksters don’t get handouts, they get a help up.
But you know that.
They are not like those unemployed food stamp, welfare bums trying to survive on nothing. Banksters are doing ‘God’s Work’ as the Jackass Goldman CEO Lloyd ‘Blankmind’ once said. Goldman’s CEO also goes by Darth Vader or the Prince of Darkness.
I guess God is into destroying America, wrecking the world’s economy, and making narcissist, psychopaths super rich.By Grant Lawrence

Police charged 2 teens Monday with dousing pit bull with gasoline, setting it on fire
Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III said Tuesday that a pit bull doused with gasoline and set on fire last month may have been part of a dogfighting operation.
Police charged two teenagers in connection with the crime, but few details have been released as police and prosecutors pore over evidence.
"I understand there are still some concerns about some of the things that [prosecutors] are looking for us to do in continuing with the investigation, but I'm confident that we have the right guys based on all that I've heard," Bealefeld said.
Bealefeld said there were indications that dogfighting "may have been at the core" of the case, but declined to elaborate. There had been previous reports that the dog had bite marks on its body.
Because the suspects were charged as juveniles, their identities are not made public, though television news reports identified the suspects as 17-year-old twin brothers. Their parents appeared on camera outside the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center maintaining the boys' innocence, saying they were turned in for the reward money.
Debra Rahl, programs director for Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARC) -
"We were all very excited to hear that there was an arrest made, and we're just hoping there's justice for Phoenix," Rahl said. "We're still very sad that she did not make it, but she didn't die in vain. It raised awareness of what happens with animals here in the city and across the country."
Police officer Syreeta Teel found the dog engulfed in flames May 27 in the 1600 block of Presbury St. in the Sandtown Winchester neighborhood. Teel, who owns a pit bull and received an honor from the city last week for her actions, threw her sweat shirt over the dog to extinguish the flames.
Phoenix suffered burns on 95 percent of her body and was taken to BARCS, where officials called it one of the most severe cases of animal cruelty they had ever seen.
She was eventually transported to the Metropolitan Veterinary Associates center outside Philadelphia to receive 24-hour care. Caregivers noted that Phoenix remained in good spirits despite her condition, wagging her tail as she was treated.
Extensive burns caused so much swelling around her face and rear quarters that, according to nurse Julie Hirsch, the dog was "barely recognizable," and she began to experience kidney failure. After determining the dog had little chance of a long-term recovery, hospital staff took Phoenix outside to be euthanized, hoping that a little flicker of sunshine would give her some happiness, Hirsch said.
Rahl said the reward money will not be paid until a conviction is secured. Some of the money also went to the Franky Fund, which helps care for homeless pets.Police charged 2 teens Monday with dousing pit bull with gasoline, setting it on fire... more

BALTIMORE, Maryland (WUSA)--The reward fund for the dog set on fire, while bystanders did nothing, has jumped from $15,500 on Wednesday to $25,500 Monday, June 8th.
9NEWS Now first reported Wednesday, May 27 that the 1-year-old pit bull, nicknamed both Phoenix and Miss Mercy, was found in southern Baltimore by an alert police officer fully ablaze. Someone doused the dog in gasoline and then set her on fire. Bystanders witnessed the act, and it's reported some were even laughing as the dog burned.
"Her tongue, her eyes, her pads are scorched off, her vulva, unbelievable. We are speechless, and overwhelmed with emotion," said Dr. Marcella Bonner of Swan Animal Hospital.
After treating the dog in Baltimore, Dr. Bonner sent her to Main Line Animal Rescue in Chester Spring, Pennsylvania--a special care facility.
It was Baltimore Police officer, Syreet Teel, who came to Phoenix's rescue. She was patrolling Presbury Street when she saw the dog. Teel has a pet pit bull named Blu.
"We saw this dog in flames, [she] was screaming and rolling around fully in flames," said Teel. "It was sad because I'd never heard a dog make the sound, the scream [she] made. I've never heard it before and it was just cruel.
"[She] was fully in flames. There were people around, but nobody was doing anything. So, I got out of the car, took off my sweater, and started hitting [her] to put the fire out," said Officer Teel.
"We could smell it in the air," said Linda Mackey a witness.
Linda Mackey and Meredith Sickle were volunteering in the neighborhood when they noticed a horrifying ball of flames.
"We were so appalled anything like that could happen and there were actually people in the street standing and laughing like it was entertainment for them," said Sickle.
Bonner says she's handled several similar cases in the past.
Her pet "Apple" was also set on fire.
Bonner warns animal cruelty is widespread but it can be prevented.
"This is an epidemic, do something about it. There's power in numbers, power if we all ban together as a community to get this to stop," she said
-- Unfortunately, Phoenix/Miss Mercy had to be euthanized on Sunday, May 31 because her kidneys were shutting down.

Story Details for the post: http://current.com/items/89366344_boy_fed_zoo_reptiles_to_crocodile
A seven-year-old boy has been filmed going on the rampage at a popular zoo in Australia, killing rare reptiles and feeding live ones to a crocodile.
Footage from the security cameras at Alice Springs Reptile Centre caught the child smiling as he killed a total of 13 animals. During his 30-minute spree, he was seen hurling the animals over the security fence into the crocodile enclosure.
Zoo officials described the boy's actions as "unbelievable". They are considering suing the parents as the boy is too young to be prosecuted.
'Difficult to replace'
The attack happened on Wednesday morning after the boy entered the zoo by jumping over the security fence and evading sensor alarms.
Over the next half hour, he bludgeoned some of the animals to death with stones and hurled others over the two fences surrounding the crocodile enclosure. At one point, he tried scaling the outer enclosure himself to get to "Terry", the 11ft (3.3m) saltwater crocodile.
A turtle, four Western blue-tongued lizards, two bearded dragons, two thorny devil lizards and the zoo's 20-year-old goanna were among those killed. Zoo director Rex Neindorf said many of the animals were rare or mature and would be difficult to replace.
"The fact a seven-year-old can wreak so much havoc in such a short time, it's unbelievable," he told Reuters news agency. Mr Neindorf said the boy had "clammed up" when questioned by police.
As children under the age of 10 cannot be held accountable for their actions in the Northern Territory, the zoo would be seeking to take action against the parents. "We'll be looking at suing the parents, who were supposedly in control of him at the time," he said.

Excerpt:
Henry: First of all, it needs to be said that "mad people" don't need the support of large populations, only a powerful minority that can both "drive" the population and control it. Look at the polls in the United States. Bush has been hovering around 30% popularity for years - and that is the population as a whole. But because he is backed by a very powerful minority, the people who own the media, the arms industry and their military supporters, the oil companies, among others, popular discontent doesn't matter. And as long as Bush's politics don't overtly affect the ordinary American negatively, they don't care enough to do anything about it.
Laura: In the U.S. - and elsewhere in the world - even the most oppressed and unfairly treated people are easily controlled by fear, by threats to their affordable materialism: entertainment, sports, gambling, so on. Even the failure of schools, medical care, social safety nets, do not drive people to really question what is going on. It is, as Aldous Huxley wrote, a scientific dictatorship: bread and circuses. In short, most Americans are aware of their oppression, and express this in polls, but those in power have successfully drugged them with a plethora of distractions - fear and pleasure - sufficient to keep them under control.
Henry: There is the carrot and the stick. As long as people can continue living in the illusion, they will do so. When the illusion starts to crack, then the stick comes in.
Laura: People are afraid of making waves for fear of losing what they have, of losing their peace, of having to exert effort to resist. After all, it does take all their time to keep the illusion going, they must slave daily to keep the SUV from being repossessed, and they want to have time for the football game on Saturday.
Henry: They also figure that Bush only has a couple of years left anyway. The system will take care of itself. Łobaczewski's book shows us why this is an extremely naïve way of thinking. The system that is in place is a pathological system that is at odds in a very profound way with the being or nature of most people. People of conscience are being ruled by people with no conscience. This fact is the primary injustice and is the basis for the other ills of society.
Laura: For many years this system has been covert because there were still people in high positions with conscience, but over time, they have all been replaced or disposed of in one way or another, and now the pathology of the system is out in the open, but nobody cares. If you look back over the history of the past fifty years or so, you will find that nearly every public figure who has died tragically was one who had conscience, concern for people, and influence enough to make waves against the pathological types.Excerpt:
