PERRIS, Calif. - A tour bus crashed into a freeway divider in Southern California on Saturday, injuring all 28 people aboard, including eight who suffered critical injuries, authorities said.
The crash was reported shortly before 5 p.m. on Interstate 215 in Perris. All northbound lanes were shut as firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the scene, Riverside County Fire Department Capt. Rick Griggs said from the scene.
Six passengers trapped in the back of the bus had to be extricated by rescuers, he said.
Besides the eight who were critically hurt, the other 20 suffered moderate injuries, he said. All were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The cause of the crash was under investigation. Griggs said he had no immediate information on the bus' origin or destination. A call to a California Highway Patrol spokesman was not immediately returned.

911 call at link
SHERMAN, Texas (AP) -- Witnesses who called 911 after a chartered bus crash that killed at least 16 people described a chaotic scene, telling emergency personnel of bloody passengers crushed beneath the smoking wreckage, according to calls released Saturday by police.
The unlicensed bus carrying 55 members of a Vietnamese Catholic group from Houston to Carthage, Mo., for an annual religious festival smashed into a guardrail and skidded off a highway early Friday near the Texas-Oklahoma state line. Twelve people died at the scene and four more died at hospitals.
One emergency call began with a female crash victim speaking in accented English over the screams and moans of other passengers. After struggling to answer the 911 operator's questions, she handed the phone to a man, who apparently arrived at the scene immediately after the crash.

A bus crash in northern Texas killed at least 13 people Friday, a police spokesman said.
The bus was going north on U.S. 75 when it left the highway, went off a bridge and down an embankment about 12:45 a.m. CT (1:45 a.m. ET), said Lt. Robert Fair, spokesman for the Sherman Police Department in Sherman, Texas.
Fifty-five people were on board the bus, which was traveling from Houston to a destination in Missouri, he said. Helicopters and ambulances were taking numerous injured passengers to hospitals, he said.
The bus crashed about 60 miles north of Dallas -- about half a mile north of the intersection of U.S. 75 and a road known as FM 1417.
Investigators found a blown tire on the bridge, but its significance was not immediately known, he said.
Police did not notice any markings on the bus, which suffered extensive damage after coming to rest near a creek bed. It appeared to be a private charter, similar to a travel or tour bus, according to Fair.

A double-decker bus collided with a tree near Tower Bridge in central London today, killing one person and injuring at least 18.
The incident happened at 9.23am when a No 188 bus collided with a tree at the junction of Tower Bridge Road and Tanner Street. Scotland Yard said the dead woman was a pedestrian, not a passenger on the bus.
The London Ambulance Service reported it had treated 18 people on site and sent nine people to hospital, four of whom were seriously injured. Scotland Yard had a slightly different account, putting the number of injured at 19, the majority with minor injuries, and two having been taken to hospital.
A Metropolitan police spokesman said officers were trying to establish "whether the bus collided with the tree or the tree fell on to the bus. We're just not sure yet." Officers were speaking to the driver of the bus, and it is thought one other vehicle was involved.
Television pictures showed the bus stalled in the road with a small tree on the tarmac in front of the driver's cab. There was no glass in the front top window of the bus and the yellow bus number was crumpled.
An eyewitness, Emlyn Exon, of Anderson Travel coach hire, said the top deck of the bus had "pretty much caved in" at the front.
The 188 was traveling from North Greenwich station, in south-east London, to Russell Square, in central London.
The bus routes 1, 42 and 188 had been diverted and Tower Bridge Road, Tanner Street, Druid Street and Jamaica Road were closed until further notice.A double-decker bus collided with a tree near Tower Bridge in central London today,... more

This bus crash in which six people have been injured just goes to prove that the chaos theory is indeed a working model. The route 24 bus between Hampstead Heath and Pimlico would normally go through Camden High Street but drivers have been asked to avoid the crash site, hence this bus driver took an alternative route...into a bridge.
