December 18,2010 by Sarah Lieberman:Hoodwatch Media affiliate Chicago| It's no secret that in this life we will surely die someday, but sometimes, a time spent in life is too short. Some time over the labor day weekend, Atlanta rapper, and music composer Lord Hector Diono was remixing a previous release in his studio in Decatur Georgia when he received a phone call from a chief insider to his music nucleus, Mr. Dwight Wash of Forrest,Mississippi about 7pm Saturday September 4, this year. Hector was informed that his good friend and confidant Leteaka Coston had passed away earlier that morning from a massive heart attack, dead at the age of 29. Today we announce Hector's decision to release a piano composition he wrote in memory of Miss Coston to the entire world. The single is entitled "I Hope You Shine"(A Letter To Lateaka Coston) and will appear on itunes, one of many music outlets contracted to the rapper he'll use to spread the word about how much Miss Coston meant to him and his closest friends. The free version is available now at http://lordhectordiono.bandcamp.com/track/i-hope-you-shine-a-letter-for-lateaka-coston Hector told his online media staff October 18, 2010, "plain and simple, this will not stand, she was too damn young to go like this". Since then the rapper and music composer has been trying to complete the music project he deemed at times too hard to carry out. Lord Hector finished the project on Saturday December 4, 2010 and sends his deepest regards to her family and life partner Drama Franklin. The record will be released on his indie label; Dark Town Music Group and distributed by Island Def Jam Music on Christmas Day December 25, 2010(Updated December 25, 2010) Now Available on Napster.com| http://music.napster.com/lord-hector-diono-music/album/%E2%80%9Ci-hope-you-shine%E2%80%9D-%28a-letter-to-lateaka-coston%29---single/14079656#s_module Story by by Sarah Lieberman [UPDATE] by Jess Glass August 22,2011 Lord Hector Diono commemorates the 30th birthday of his fallen friend Ms. Lateaka T. Coston, Marietta, Georgia who would've turned 30 years old on August 24, 2011. A memorial tribute single released Friday August 19,2011 entitled "Reach For You" http://www.amazon.com/Reach-For-You-Memorial-Tribute/dp/B005HZV37C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314010447&sr=8-1 The single is another attempt to add some closure for our CEO whom I spoke with on August 2, 2011 and came to my own conclusion that he is still very much affected by the sudden loss of Ms. Coston but shows improvement on the length of time he can actually talk about her demise. This single will also list as a free download for family, friends, and interested listeners of this latest composition which will be available August 24, 2011 http://islanddefjam.bandcamp.com/track/happy-birthday-lateakareach-for-you [STORY] by Jess Glass August 22,2011| Hoodwatch Media affiliate Athens,GeorgiaDecember 18,2010 by Sarah Lieberman:Hoodwatch Media affiliate Chicago| It's no... more

I have published a small story for those who are concerned about the environment and what the BP oil has caused us as a nation, most are blinded and think this is over with but this is far from the problem. Most are facing the aftermath of the breathing problems and there are some footage on this subject.. I have a blog with the same video I would like to view I am very thankful for any opinions or someone who would like to add anything our nation needs more and we deserve more then what we are getting, me personally as an American and an African American I think that there are so many important issues that we never address and we wonder why everyone else is taking over our nation because we allow this to happen. Most have no idea but I listen to American Reconstruction with Mike Golden who is a radio rebel who can tell us the real news and giving much information on laws and what is allowed because if we keep walking around and just saying what we are going to do then this means nothing so I only need serious people who are about the change of America. No our President can not do this for us we need to do it, after seeing that the news has not said one thing about the oil spill anymore but whats going on with the people in those towns close by the gulf they are suffering and no one has made a cry to America the give anything to them we need to help those who are in need not those who are in greed.

Lately, more than just a tree grows in Brooklyn. Try 80 acres of the most sustainable waterfront park ever devised. I'm Rich Awn and this is your Green Air Minute.
In it's heyday, the Brooklyn waterfront was a booming center of maritime trade and manufacturing, also a great political and military base of operations for most of North America. But as the revolutionary turf wars subsided, shipping technology increased, and modern economic realities set in, the site on which the Brooklyn Bridge Park is being constructed was for the last century or so, a miserable shell of forsaken urban decay.
Adrian Benepe, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
"It would be safe to say (that) in New York City at least and perhaps around the country or around the world, this is the world’s first almost completely recycled park. It’s an incredibly sustainable park. Everywhere you look and even in places you can’t see underground are things that were done here that are revolutionary and that will be probably setting a new standard on how to make a sustainable park."
Michael Van Valkenbergh Associates is the firm leading the landscape design charge on this project and have introduced progressive systems like irrigation ducts that use storm water runoff. Recycled materials like reclaimed granite blocks from the old Willis Avenue and Rosevelt Island bridges are being reshaped for use on the promenades, and the careful extraction of reclaimed wood from existing buildings on the site, some dating back to the time of Columbus, is being reconditioned for use on park benches and the frames of new structures within the park.
While it's only 7% complete, these home town eco sluggers in Brooklyn are looking to knock this triumph of a sustainable landscape design ball well out of the park. I'm Rich Awn and this is your Green Air Minute, for the video on the project and full interview with Commissioner Benepe, visit GreenAirRadio.com.

Downtown Cleveland gets taken over by a mall, which gets taken over by a farm.
Shopping malls haven’t shown any sign of slowing down in their rampant development since the first one opened near Kansas City, Mo., in 1922. The economy, on the other hand, has shown woeful signs of slowing down to the extent that many retail centers are closing their doors due to the traumatic hit consumer confidence has taken in recent years.
Such was almost the case with the Galleria at Erieview in Cleveland, Ohio but it took the bright idea of Vicky Poole, their marketing and events director to do more than just drop the cost of rent.
I started, again, reevaluating the space and when this idea came for urban growing and I got, again, more involved in the local food movement, I realized that there was no reason why we couldn’t implement growing and still be a business center and an events center. We could still remain a community and yet benefit from the plants and the local food.
Vicky says the businesses will take time to come back, just as the plants will take time to grow. For now, the visibility and good feeling the greenhouse gives to the community is a solid foundation for a sustainable future.

It’s one thing to make a documentary film on America’s sustainable communities but it’s another to do it by bike.
The hand brakes have been applied to the pedal-powered production phase of a soon-to-be-released documentary film called Within Reach, a 6000 mile bike tour of communities, cohabitations, and communes shot entirely using solar-powered electronics and leg-powered bicycles.
We caught up with riders, director, and producer Ryan Mlynarczyk and Mandy Creighton encamped and rejuvenating at the Joyful Path Healing and Meditation Center out in Blue Mounds Wisconsin.
For us that meant eco villages, co-housing communities which are more of an urban, townhouse style co-habitation, a co-op where everybody lives under the same roof but you each have your own bedroom. And then we also visited a couple of the old communes that are still around.
The movie isn’t slated to be screened until Earth Day 2011 but you can catch teasers, clips and blog posts on their website, WithinReachMovie.com.

Are winter energy costs freezing you out? Why not try some space heaters that actually save space and money?
It’s unfortunately all too common for most homes, whether in a hot or cold climate, to be improperly insulated against whatever weather conditions it faces. This could mean thousands of dollars a year in energy costs not to mention the toll energy transmission and generation takes only to be wasted on the end user.
One solution, at least for those bracing against cold, is selecting one of the new lines of electric space heaters available. Here are a couple things to keep in mind when buying:
1.) Only go for newer model heaters up to date with all the current safety features which bare the UL stamp of approval.
-and-
2.) Choose a thermostatically controlled heater, as they avoid the energy waste of overheating a room.
One such model that fits these specs and was tested here at Green Air HQ is the Dayton U33 Electric Space Heater available at Air-n-Water.com. It’s compact, thermostatically adjustable, and even electrostatically adjustable saving us from bank account busting winter heating costs.

Living an eco-friendly existence doesn’t have to end when you do.
Ghoulish as it may sound, the business of burials is something we’re all fated to deal with eventually but new environmentally responsible options to handle this morbidly necessary event have emerged here in the US adding a note of green to this eerie realm of commerce.
Elizabeth Fournier, Director of Cornerstone Funeral Services and Cremation in Boring, Oregon, is the self-proclaimed “Green Reaper.”
A lot of people have chosen cremation already and a lot of that is the idea of, ‘Hey, I don’t want to take up space, I don’t want my family to shell out a bunch of cash, and I want to do something good for the environment.’ But of course, what we’re learning is the idea of cremating somebody isn’t so environmentally conscious as we once thought. Actually burying somebody the Green way with no chemicals, no concretes, and no metals in the soil is actually a better choice.
It’s the goal of Ms. Fournier and others in her industry to offer ways families can continue the responsible legacy of their deceased…beyond the grave.

A new documentary uncovers the truly disastrous effects of the Swine Flu following the lives of a young Egyptian family living in Cairo’s ultra-poor recycling village.
Marina of the Zabbaleen, a new documentary by Torch Films, enters the lives of this largely Coptic Christian tribe seen through the eyes of three children and their mother. Barely eking out survival in this poor community, Marina’s tribe subsists by collecting nearly half of Cairo’s municipal solid waste, separating it into its recyclable components and feeding what’s left to their pigs.
When the H1N1 virus, or Swine Flu, was declared an international pandemic, Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak ordered all the country’s 300,000 hogs slaughtered. The result was an all out halt of Egypt’s decentralized, natural and sustainable waste disposal system – the hungry pigs.
Now, the garbage heaps in Cairo are too much for the Zabbaleen to control themselves, effectively burying the unfortunate tribe under the very material that kept them alive.

The House voted in favor of the most ambitious climate-change bill in history but will the long list of concessions cripple it’s best intentions?
According to the New York Times, Representaitve Henry A. Waxman of California, co-authored the revolutionary climate bill but was forced to coerce the delegation with billions of dollars in promises in order to get the votes he needed to pass the bill through.
Utility companies seemed to make out the best from the hundreds of pages of special favors written into the bill. Big Coal made an especially big haul as they were granted the go-ahead to build new coal-burning power plants without shouldering new costs. They also walked away with billions toward free pollution permits and the development of carbon capture technology to help meet future pollution targets.
While President Obama agrees the bill isn’t an exact science, he does believe it represents an extraordinary step for the nation.

The Lakota Foundation Invokes Response to Suicide Rates Among Teenagers on Pine Ridge.

Huntington – LI, New York, Oct. 4th, 2009 – The “standing room only” capacity at the Cinema Arts Centre’s
early Sunday morning audience were treated to a rare event, “First Voices: Listen We Must”. The 4-hour special included music by the group Ghosthorse, Lakota dance, WOUNDED KNEE
a film by Stanley Nelson – followed by a discussion including a “meet and greet” breakfast. The panel of Lance White Magpie, Christine Rose
and Tiokasin Ghosthorse
gave examples of the conditions on Lakota reservations in the South Dakota with life expectancy, health, housing conditions and homelessness, transportation, water contamination, federal-state-tribal relations, scenarios of racism in what is now being called the “Mississippi of the North".
“People came from Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey as well as New York. The music had people connected completely. The film [Wounded Knee] was something we all should see and the discussion afterwards was uplifting”, said Jim Krivo, one of the organizers of WBAI-NY
.
0A
“There has never been an attendance like this, as far as I’ve seen, at the Cinema Arts Centre”, many people were either “awakened” or “I couldn’t believe it” were more of the comments made by the pubic in attendance.
The benefit shed light on the Lakota adults and elders who are deeply concerned for youth living on the reservation today, with the High School drop-out rate at 73% and the teenage suicide rates at an “Alarmingly,... 10 times higher than the national average” among northern reservations, “90% all Indian teens who commit suicide have a diagnosable mental illness” said Senator Johanns of Nebraska, who testified at the S. 1635 – 7th Generation Promise: Indian Youth Suicide Prevention Act of 2009
on September 10, 2009.
Lakota youth face tremendous obstacles in their life. 90% of the population on the reservation lives below the federal poverty level and there is an unemployment rate between 85% and 92%. One-third of the homes are severely substandard, without water, electricity, adequate insulation, and sewage systems (Source: Indian Housing Authority). The Pine Ridge Reservation is home to approximately 40,000 persons, 40% of which are under the age of 18.
Tiokasin Ghosthorse, said=2 0during the panel discussion “children as young as 5 years of age commit suicide, which brings to mind the barriers of education which forms the backbone of a child’s mind. The education Lakota children receive within the presence of the American system is almost completely lacking in Lakota cultural education on those same reservations. While most reservations have suicide prevention grants, they offer a minimally oriented band-aid approach, which has not stemmed the rash of suicides since I was a teenager in the 70’s. A holistic cultural approach is needed that cuts through the barriers of generational trauma and goes to the root of the problem rather than the symptom.”The Lakota Foundation Invokes Response to Suicide Rates Among Teenagers on Pine Ridge.... more

I write to you, America, as a Muslim-American who is frustrated at seeing both sides of my identity spreading myths about each other. In part one of this two part article, I address America from a Muslim perspective. In part two, which will follow in the coming weeks, I shall write to the Muslim community, from an American perspective.
Dear America,
Our world today is assaulted with myriad headlines describing rising extremism and terrorism, and political instability in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Middle East. Despite the plethora of bad news, most recently we have seen a day of hope marked by the end of Ramadan, where Muslims from all nations, social classes, and sects openly united in the spirit of humility, brotherhood, thankfulness, and peace.
As human beings, you and me have a tendency to let the negative marginalize the good and the true. But in this Ramadan the unity and the message of peace and humility that nearly a billion Muslims have exhibited should not go unnoticed, nor should it be underestimated.
America, even though you are part of us (Muslims) and we are a part of you, you often fear and misunderstand the one thing that unites the billion of us around the world is peace, love, and spiritual strength. You fear our religion, Islam. I write the following to not accuse anyone or apologize on behalf of any group. In part one of this article, I speak to you America, as one Muslim who is part of the majority of Muslims standing against the Ahmedinijads, Bin Ladens, and Taliban and Al Qaeda. These men have stolen my voice... our voice. The actions of a violent minority have for too long trumped the selfless and righteous actions of the moderate majority who do good in the name of Islam.
Firstly, Muslims are not a violent people and Islam is not a violent religion. I fear you overlook the fact that the faith of Muslims has been monopolized by the corrupt despots of Muslim countries and Muslim extremists. And it is the extremists whose power is bolstered by a media that has paralyzed the voice of the Muslim majority, who in fact abhor violence and terrorism.
It can be confusing even to me because on one side we only see Muslim extremists on the TV preaching hate in the name of Islam and we barely hear the majority. As I will touch on in part two of this article, Muslims have even marginalized themselves. But America, Muslims are a community of over a billion people, most of whom live in poverty within developing countries governed by oppressive, abusive, authoritarian regimes. These very regimes remain bunkered against an alienated group of extremists who are taking to the gun instead of a potentially rigged ballot. It is our mothers and daughters and sons who are being killed on a daily basis by either violent extremists or botched missile attacks by NATO. We are against violence and terrorism America, be it from Muslim extremists or NATO bombs. We are against violence because it is we who are the primary target of most terrorist attacks today. And while we may disagree with your military actions and policies, we look up to the principles that make up America... I speak of the freedom to be critical of yourself as a society and government; the opportunities awarded by the most comprehensive education system in the world; and your effortless ability to adapt in an ever transforming world.

“So why did the Israeli government boycott the commission? The real answer is quite simple: they knew full well that the commission, any commission, would have to reach the conclusions it did reach.”
--------------
The important points come near the end: that the rather conservative findings of the report (and its acceptance of Israel’s dubious right to self-defense–dubious because Gaza is effectively occupied), have acted as a "bombshell" in Israel because Goldstone calls for action, and because the report contributes to the fraying of Jewish support for Israel and to the "Legitimacy War" that Israel has been losing in the eyes of the world. "A historic contribution" to the Palestinian struggle for justice, Falk concludes.
-------------
Uri Avnery (Israeli peace activist, and former Knesset member), “On the Goldstone Report” 19 Sept 2009
Richard Goldstone, former judge of South Aftica’s Constitutional Court, the first prosecutor at The Hague on behalf of the International Criminal Court for Former Yugolavia, and anti-apartheid campaigner reports that he was most reluctant to take on the job of chairing the UN fact-finding mission charged with investigating allegations of war crimes committed by Israel and Hamas during the three week Gaza War of last winter. Goldstone explains that his reluctance was due to the issue being “deeply charged and politically loaded,” and was overcome because he and his fellow commissioners were “professionals committed to an objective, fact-based investigation,” adding that “above all, I accepted because I believe deeply in the rule of law and the laws of war,” as well as the duty to protect civilians to the extent possible in combat zones. The four-person fact-finding mission was composed of widely respected and highly qualified individuals, including the distinguished international law scholar, Christine Chinkin, a professor at the London School of Economics. Undoubtedly adding complexity to Goldstone’s decision is the fact that he is Jewish, with deep emotional and family ties to Israel and Zionism, bonds solidified by his long association with several organizations active in Israel.
Despite the impeccable credentials of the commission members, and the worldwide reputation of Richard Goldstone as a person of integrity and political balance, Israel refused cooperation from the outset. It did not even allow the UN undertaking to enter Israel or the Palestinian Territories, forcing reliance on the Egyptian government to facilitate entry at Rafah to Gaza. As Uri Avnery observes, however much Israel may attack the commission report as one-sided and unfair, the only plausible explanation of its refusal to cooperate with fact-finding and taking the opportunity to tell its side of the story was that it had nothing to tell that could hope to overcome the overwhelming evidence of the Israeli failure to carry out its attacks on Gaza last winter in accordance with the international law of war. No credible international commission could reach any set of conclusions other than those reached by the Goldstone Report on the central allegations.
In substantive respects the Goldstone Report adds nothing new. Its main contribution is to confirm widely reported and analyzed Israeli military practices during the Gaza War. There had been several reliable reports already issued, condemning Israel’s tactics as violations of the laws of war and international humanitarian law, including by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and a variety of respected Israeli human rights groups. Journalists and senior United Nations civil servants had reached similar conclusions. Perhaps, most damning of all the material available before the Goldstone Report was the publication of a document entitled “Breaking the Silence,” containing commentaries by thirty members of the Israel Defense Forces---continued below“So why did the Israeli government boycott the commission? The real answer is... more

The United Nations nuclear assembly voted on Friday to urge Israel to accede to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and place all atomic sites under the world body's inspections, in a surprise victory for Arab states.
The resolution, passed narrowly for the first time in nearly two decades, expresses concern about "Israeli nuclear capabilities" and calls on the International Atomic Energy Agency chief, Mohamed ElBaradei, to work on the issue.
The Middle East resolution, sponsored by Arab states, was backed by 49 votes to 45 against in a floor vote at the IAEA's annual member states conference. The vote split along Western and developing nation lines. There were 16 abstentions.

In a document published by The Israel Project entitled “The Israel Project’s 2009 Global Language Dictionary”, Dr Frank Luntz unmasks a modern-day propaganda campaign that would have made Napoleon and Machiavelli proud. He writes:
There is NEVER, EVER, any justification for the deliberate slaughter of innocent women and children. NEVER. The primary Palestinian public relations goal is to demonstrate that the so-called “hopelessness of the oppressed Palestinians” is what causes them to go out and kill children. This must be challenged immediately, aggressively, and directly.
The emotional appeal to saving children works, but the appeal is based on two lies:
(1) that Palestinians generally (not only suicide bomber extremists) are the ones who kill children, while Israelis (not individual extremists, but Israel's armed forces) never slaughter Palestinian children.
(2) The second falsehood is that the Palestinians have a public relations goal that must be challenged when, in fact, the Palestinians have proven to be hopeless and goalless when it comes to public relations. Unlike Frank Luntz, the Palestinians have no effective PR voices. They can't even get their ambassador in the UK to speak out to the British public about Israel’s lies and propaganda.

Sustainable agriculture investing gets serious with Wall Street money movers.
The business of feeding the world’s populations has fast become less about the quality of the produce shipped halfway around the world to your salad bowl and all about the quantity and speed at which the agricultural industry can deliver higher yields through soil damaging pest control and genetic mutations through biotechnology.
A new investment firm seeks to pair sustainable solutions with the resources necessary to fix our broken agricultural system.
Janine Yorio, Founder of NewSeed Advisors.
A lot of what we call sustainable also becomes economically necessary in the face of rising oil prices. So the day that we wake up and gas is at $5 again is that day that farmers and people [who] are actually involved in food production need to find alternatives to the petrochemicals that they use every single day to produce food.
According to Janine, the interest and the resources of the new wave of sustainable investors are big enough to counteract the old standards of short-term gains and turn-and-burn investing.

Here's the 500 plus page report coming from the United Nations. Skim it and refer to what interests you. You'll find out that Israels indictment here is much more serious than the indictment against Palestine.
