Well now this is weird: It’s not even Memorial Day yet, and we movie fans may have already seen the biggest hit of the summer. Indeed, judging from the disappointing grosses for Dark Shadows and Battleship, it looks like some of us may be more interested in seeing that hit again and again, rather than buying tickets to anything else.Well now this is weird: It’s not even Memorial Day yet, and we movie fans may... more

Indeed these false teeth have more importance for Jane Fonda than a new car so 70 year old Jane goes for safer bet and spends a huge amount on her teeth which definitely would add to her age defying face instead of a car which may crash any time on the road.Indeed these false teeth have more importance for Jane Fonda than a new car so 70 year... more

John Galliano was channeling Jane Fonda as Lillian Hellman in Julia.
The news about John Galliano’s anti-Semitic rant and his professed love for Hitler is one of the worst bits of news to come along since the War on Terror and the rising obesity rate. John Galliano’s shows for Christian Dior have always topped my best collections list. His flair for the dramatic and artistry put him leagues above the rest of fashion’s elite. Clearly, John Galliano is at the height of his addictions and it is hard to hold people accountable for their actions. But, as a concentration camp survivor’s son, it is hard to immediately forgive this brilliant, raving lunatic who is more of a cartoon, really, than a man. His choice to be the closing element of each fashion show proves that his ego was out of whack and he suffers from Delusions of Grandma. Do I believe he hates Jews while he is sober? Probably not. I’d like to think he is much too busy creating amazing collections. We all say stupid things while under the influence of whatever libations float your boat. And aren’t we all a little anti-something deep down in our hearts? The real issue here is, if he is walking around town wearing an Andrews Sister meets Russian Cossack hat, then surely he is out of his mind.

This summer I will be offering you doses of Pop Culture Therapy: A Pop Culture Junkie’s Guide. While the completed work will give you suggestions in cinematherapy, bibliotherapy and audiotherapy, this summer I will focus on cinematherapy, so get ready to go out and find some really awesome films to fill your summer nights. This week, “Empower Yourself.” For those of you still lucky enough to be working this summer, be glad you don’t have the same boss as these unfortunate girls. If you do, get some ideas!
Nine to Five (1980)
Synopsis: Judy Bernly (portrayed by Jane Fonda) is a recent divorcee who finds herself thrust into the workforce when she must fend for herself. She arrives on her first day at a company called Consolidated where she is shown the ropes by longtime employee Violet Newstead (portrayed by Lily Tomlin). Judy quickly learns that although Violet is completely competent and efficient she has been consistently passed over for promotion by their boss Frank Hart (portrayed by Dabney Coleman), an arrogant sexist egotistical bigot who has actually not been at Consolidated as long as Violet and steals her ideas. Hart also makes inappropriate passes at his buxom but sweet-natured secretary Doralee Rhodes (portrayed by Dolly Parton) who is shunned by the other employees amidst rumors of an affair with Hart. One afternoon, the three women each experience an injustice at work and wind up drowning their sorrows at a local bar. Later, they continue their female bonding over marijuana and fantasies about killing Mr. Hart. Monday morning they are the best of friends, a relationship that is tested when Hart ends up in the hospital and the three mistakenly believe Violet actually has killed him. The legendary Sterling Hayden also appears as company head Russell Tinsworthy.
Why I Like/Recommend: I used to watch this film all the time as a girl, mostly because I knew Dolly Parton. I found new reasons to appreciate it later as I am a fan of both Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Yes, the marijuana scene is classic as well as the hospital scene in which Tomlin tries to correct her mistake. Nine to Five is relatable on so many levels. What working person has not once fantasized about getting even with the boss just a little bit? How many of us still know Parton’s theme song forward and backward? Working girls everywhere had a new anthem. This summer I will be offering you doses of Pop Culture Therapy: A Pop Culture... more

---Jane Fonda • Barbarella • Sci-Fi film by Roger Vadim 1968
Barbarella is a 1968 science fiction film based on the French Barbarella comics created by Jean-Claude Forest. The film was directed by Roger Vadim and stars Jane Fonda, who was Vadim's wife at the time.
In the 40th century, Barbarella (Jane Fonda) is assigned by the President of Earth (Claude Dauphin) to retrieve Doctor Durand-Durand (Milo O'Shea) from the planet SoGo in order to save the earth.
On her quest, Barbarella is seduced by a resident of SoGo (Ugo Tognazzi as Mark Hand), who introduces her to penetrative intercourse, something she is unaware of, since civilized people of Barbarella's society find their sexual release through pharmaceuticals. In turn, she seduces an angel named Pygar (John Phillip Law), and overloads a torture device called the Excessive (or "Ex-sex-sive") Machine, which kills through sexual pleasure.

In a recent Larry King Live interview with actress and political activist Jane Fonda, the actress that no one in my generation remembers attacked Palin for her popularity in the Tea Party movement.
---
KING: What do you think of Sarah Palin? There was a little quick move. You went from crisis to huge crisis.
FONDA: You betcha!
KING: What do you think?
FONDA: You betcha. I think she could have a television show maybe.
KING: She’s got one.
FONDA: But she should not be a politician, in my opinion.
KING: What do you make of the feelings about her? What do you make of – I don't even to have ask you the question – Sarah Palin. What do you make of the story?
FONDA: Sad.
KING: Sad?
FONDA: Well, I think it's sad when someone says I'm going to run for office and they can't answer basic questions, you know, about the world, about what they read, about history, things like that. I mean, I think we should take our political, our political world, life, members who aspire to be elected officials more seriously, you know, they have to be grounded in some kind of reality.
KING: How do you account for her popularity?
FONDA: Well, I , I don't know. It worries me, frankly.
---
Well Ms. Fonda, I have to say that you yourself are not a politician, and it would worry me if anyone did take your political advice. In a recent Larry King Live interview with actress and political activist Jane Fonda,... more

Leaving school at the time of post-World War II, an era when France was being rebuilt and when everything seemed possible, Claude Azoulay began working at France’s Paris-Match magazine in 1954. Having covered the Algerian war, the Six-Day War and many others, his career followed some of the most dramatic events during the second-half of the twentieth century. In addition, his photo-journalism work took him on travels to Saint-Tropez and Cannes, as well as to the major studios and movie sets in London and Hollywood. Azoulay served as an exemplary part of the of great photo-journalism staff at Paris-Match for more than forty years, departing in 1996 to seek other adventures in the world.
Looking through a list of Azoulay’s photographic portraits made of stars and other celebrity figures is akin to opening an encyclopedia of film. Azoulay photographed everything that he could; his portraits of celebrities are so alive and include brilliant images of Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, Elizabeth Taylor, Faye Dunaway, Barbara Streisand, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Kirk Douglas, Jane Fonda, Francis Bacon, Peter O’Toole, John Wayne, François Mitterand and countless others. He did not steal their images; rather, they lent him their souls in an attentive and caring mirror. And thus his body of work has become an important portrait of our time.
This piece presents a number of memorable b&w vintage photographs, as well as a remarkable slide show of additional vintage photographs.Leaving school at the time of post-World War II, an era when France was being rebuilt... more

"AT the core of Beethoven’s “Diabelli” Variations, an esoteric and astonishing piano piece lasting some 50 minutes, is one of the intriguing mysteries of music history. Why did Beethoven, during the difficult last decade of his life, when he was deaf, chronically ill and often in financial straits, become nearly obsessed with writing an extensive and complex set of variations on a dumpy little waltz, a theme he had first dismissed as a “cobbler’s patch”?
That question drives “33 Variations,” the latest play by Moisés Kaufman, which opens on Monday at the Eugene O’Neill Theater. The production is directed by Mr. Kaufman, best known for “The Laramie Project.” Jane Fonda, in her first performance on a Broadway stage in 46 years, plays Dr. Katherine Brandt, an American musicologist who becomes as obsessed with solving the mystery of the “Diabelli” Variations as Beethoven was with composing the piece.
Whatever one’s take on “33 Variations” as a theater piece, it is an innovative and engrossing exercise in music appreciation. The pianist Diane Walsh plays extended excerpts from the “Diabelli” Variations, elegantly, in full view of the audience. In a way Ms. Walsh is a character in the play. I don’t think Ms. Fonda would object to my saying that Beethoven’s music is the star.""AT the core of Beethoven’s “Diabelli” Variations, an esoteric... more

"Even having a major Hollywood name in a Broadway play does not guarantee that investors will rush to put money into it in these recessionary days, theater producers are learning.
Case in point: Jane Fonda’s star turn in “33 Variations,” the new play written and directed by Moisés Kaufman now in previews at the Eugene O’Neill Theater and opening on March 9.
As recently as late last week the lead producer, David Binder, said in an interview that he was planning to add another producer because Mr. Kaufman’s Tectonic Theater Project had not been able to raise its share of the budget, which is in the $2.5 million range.
“It’s a very, very difficult economy, so I picked up some of Tectonic’s share of the budget,” Mr. Binder said. “I want Moisés able to focus on rehearsals, not on raising money.”
In the last several days, however, Mr. Kaufman was able to turn to Tectonic’s board, staff and other supporters to recruit investors and make up the financial gap Mr. Binder was working to cover, Mr. Kaufman said on Wednesday. (Neither man would say how much of a gap existed.)""Even having a major Hollywood name in a Broadway play does not guarantee that... more
