A quarter of a teaspoon of VX nerve agent ("one of the deadliest chemical agents ever created," according to the video above) disappeared from a Utah military research base earlier today. Over 1,000 people at the base were locked inside the facility during a search for the missing chemical weapon, which was found "early on Thursday." A press conference is scheduled for later today.
From Wikipedia:
VX is the most toxic nerve agent ever synthesized for which activity has been independently confirmed. The median lethal dose (LD50) for humans is estimated to be about 734 micrograms through skin contact and the LCt50 for inhalation is estimated to be 30-50 mg·min/m³.

After the huge international success of Ong Bak and The Protector reports started coming in about weird chicken sacrifices, black magic rituals and mafia strong-arming which would lead to him disappearing from the set of Ong Bak 2.
The story now takes an even stranger twist as Jaa rode an elephant into a Buddhist temple in Surin, Thailand...shaved his head, took vows, and was officially ordained as a Buddhist monk.

Artist and avid solo hiker Everett Ruess, who disappeared in 1934 in Utah's Davis Gulch at the age of 20, has been a 75-year old mystery -- the subject of much discussion and debate -- until recently. Navajo Aneth Nez, who has harbored a family secret, revealed to his grand-daughter that he had witnessed Ruess' murder at the hands of Ute youths near the Utah-Arizona state line.
Everett Ruess, who was friends with photographers Dorothea Lange and Ansel Adams, longed for desert Southwest in solitude and to retreat from the City of Los Angeles where he was originally from. The Los Angeles Times article quotes from Ruess' last letter to family: "As to when I shall visit civilization, it will not be soon, I think. I prefer the saddle to the street-car, the star-sprinkled sky to a roof."
Everett Ruess left behind journals, drawings, and other art works, and his disappearance was a matter of much speculation as remains were never recovered or found. Some thought he followed the Colorado River to Mexico, others believed he "went native" with a tribal community in the area. Some thought Ruess had drowned in the Colorado River. He was also the subject of documentaries and books, including the film "Lost Forever: Everett Ruess" directed by Diane Orr (2000) which explores the mystery behind Ruess' disappearance and pieces together a fascinating portrait of this young man.Artist and avid solo hiker Everett Ruess, who disappeared in 1934 in Utah's Davis... more

What is the Rapture?
It describes an event in the future when Jesus Christ will in the twinkling of an eye (1 Cor 15:51), change all believers (living and dead) to immortal, giving them a resurrected body, and catching them up to meet the Lord in the air. People say the word 'Rapture' isn't in the Bible, and this is misleading. The term 'Rapture' comes from the Latin word for the event. This term has been coined for the event rather than the actual Greek word in the text. The Greek word is harpazo. It means to snatch or catch away, used of Paul in being caught up to Paradise, 2 Cor. 12:2, 4. The word is used in 1 Thess 4:16-17, and translated 'caught up'. So, regardless of the word we use to describe the event, it most definitely is a Biblical term. (As much as any English term is, since the Bible wasn't written in English)
The controversial issue today is to when the event will take place in relation to the time of the second coming and seven year tribulation. Of course the point is meaningless for those that don't believe in a literal 7 year tribulation, but for those of us that do, it is a very import issue. Evangelicals believe in a literal 7 year tribulation, and a literal return of Jesus Christ. Less agree on a literal 1000 year Millenium after the return of Christ, but our viewpoint in EndTimes.org is that they are both literal, and future events. As will be shown, EndTimes.org teaches a Pretribulation rapture, a literal 7 year tribulation, the return of Jesus Christ, and a literal 1000 year Millennial reign of Christ.

Authorities said Monday they have positively identified some of Steve Fossett's remains: two large bones found a half-mile from where the adventurer's plane crashed in California's Sierra Nevada.
Madera County Sheriff John Anderson said DNA tests conducted by the state Department of Justice positively identified the bones as the remains of the millionaire aviator who disappeared last year.
Fossett's widow, Peggy Fossett, released a statement thanking authorities for their work.
"I am hopeful that the DNA identification puts a definitive end to all of the speculation surrounding Steve's death. This has been an incredibly difficult time for me, and I am thankful to everyone who helped bring closure to this tragedy," she said.
The bones were discovered last week, along with Fossett's tennis shoes and Illinois driver's license, which had animal bite marks on them.
Fossett disappeared in September 2007 after taking off from a Nevada ranch owned by hotel magnate Barron Hilton for what was supposed to be a short pleasure flight. Law enforcement, fellow aviators and others launched a costly search that covered 20,000 square miles but turned up empty.
The wreckage of Fossett's plane was discovered last month after a hiker walking off trail in the Sierra Nevada near Mammoth Lakes stumbled across Fossett's pilot's license and a wad of weathered $100 bills. Authorities said Fossett likely died on impact.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.

A mummified woman discovered in her flat more than ten years after her death owes $13,000 in unpaid rent.
The disappearance of the old woman was not reported for more than a decade, and she was only discovered when neighbours had to go to the police after a water pipe broke in the supposedly empty apartment in Donetsk, Ukraine.
The family who lived directly next door to the women they once called Eleonora reportedly believed she had been taken to a nursing home – the last time they saw her was in 1997. The window in the apartment was left open, which meant her body was preserved and so neighbours never noticed the smell, reports Pravda. Police said the corpse had been completely dehydrated and mummified.
Since the time of her death, the woman's debt had been mounting – and it now stands at almost $13,000.A mummified woman discovered in her flat more than ten years after her death owes... more

They might capture you at any time. When you're at work, sleeping, walking down the street, doing your groceries. Day or night. They might wear military or civilian clothes while taking you away, not giving you a reason or a warrant. They do not hesitate to use violence as they force you to come along. The officials deny knowing anything. It is as if you ceased to exist...
On August 30 2008, which marks the 25th anniversary of the International Day of the Disappeared, the ICAED voices particular concern about the fate and predicament of persons who have been forced to go missing as well as calls for action to help them.
An enforced disappearance of a person is a grave human rights violation that has hurt tens of thousands of persons and their families. It creates victims all over the globe still today.
On August 30th the ICAED members will appeal to heads of states across the globe to sign, ratify and implement the Convention against Enforced Disappearances.
Heads of states will receive an appeal letter, signed by renowned personalities and NGOs, together with a beautiful photo publication, that displays the array of emotions associated with enforced disappearances. We have obtained most of these photos from our partner organisations so the pictures truly correspond to real life experiences. Both the letter and the publication will be available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.
In addition, various events are organised by the families of victims all over the world to commemorate the disappeared. Festivities are global, taking place on all the continents. Examples of events are manifestations, theatre play, exhibitions, visits to government officials, press releases and statements.
YOU CAN HELP US BY:
* collecting signatures for the appeal letter - from August 2nd to August 28th we will need your help to collect signatures from renowned personalities and NGOs to appeal to governments wordwide.
The letter will be sent on August 30 to all Heads of State around the globe.
Personalities, please sign by e-mailing us your NAME, COUNTRY and OCCUPATION
NGOs, please sign by e-mailing the NAME OF YOUR ORGANIZATION, COUNTRY and FUNCTION OF THE SIGNATORY.
Kindly send the signatures to d.hardy@aimforhumanrights.org before August 28.
* circulating the photo publication - a beautiful photo publication that visualizes all the emotions associated with enforced disappearence is in the process of making. We will also send it to various organisations and it will soon be available here on the website for downloading.
* presenting the manifest and the photo publication to your government - the idea is that the ICAED manifest will be accompanied by the photo publication as a moral appeal. Together these two will function as a strong means of pressing governments worldwide to act.
* organising commemoration activities in your own country - various events (theatre, music, visit to the president, exhibits...) are essential in raising awareness and commemorating the disappeared.

Steve Fossett's disappearence last September sparked the biggest search in American history Photo: HEATHCLIFF O'MALLEY
Round-the-world flying adventurer Steve Fossett may have faked his own death, investigators have claimed.
Fossett, a friend of Virgin boss Richard Branson, and the first man to fly non-stop round the earth in a hot air balloon, went missing last September when his final flight in a light plane over the Nevada desert went missing.
However, Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol has said Fossett, whose body or plane was never found, could still be alive.
She said: "I've been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found.
"It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."
Fossett's disappearance sparked the biggest search in American history, with the Civil Air Patrol's Black Hawks, fitted with infra-red technology, joined by over 30 private planes and internet experts scanning the Nevada desert looking for clues.
Lt Col Ryan believes Fossett may have faked his own death due to personal problems or fears about his business dealings.
There are also a number of anomalies that question whether Fossett's plane ever crashed.
Only one witness, a pilot at hotel magnate Barron Hilton's flying ranch near Reno, claims to have seen him take off that day.
That witness claims Fossett asked him to prepare the plane for take off, even though he had never allowed anyone else to do this before.
