Glastonbury, Bestival, the Big Chill, Latitude, Reading? Which wristband will you be flashing at friends and work colleagues this summer?
It's safe to say music festivals are now an established part of British summer time. There are 450 in the UK alone this year and more people are going to them than ever before, says Virtual Festivals UK.
They used to be about leaving the social snobberies and constraints of everyday life at the gate. The mud and general madness was a great social leveller. Banker or buddhist, everyone was in it together. Now many are sponsored by big corporate brands and money can buy you luxury unimaginable years ago - tipi with shower and double bed for £3,000 anyone?

The UK britpoppers The Charlatans have announced that they will be headlining this year's Isle of Wight Festival, but in a twist on normal festival line-ups, that they were allowed "complete control" over the bands that will warm up for them.
The Charlatans frontman, Tim Burgess said, "I have already approached quite a few impressive new bands (some you will know, some you might not). The Isle Of Wight festival is a special festival to me, so all up and coming bands, be on the look out – you could be taking the stage."
Acts already confirmed include recent returnees to form, The Prodigy, alongside Drum and Bass' mainstream soldiers, Pendulum as well as Basement Jaxx and The Ting Tings.
Not a bad lineup so far, but is putting so much control in the hands of the band who are headlining, really that much of a good idea? I mean what if they choose crappy bands? The UK britpoppers The Charlatans have announced that they will be headlining this... more

Rob Da Bank, Radio 1 DJ and Bestival curator has reportedly splashed out 'a lot of dough' on plastic meshing for the whole of his festival site on the Isle of Wight.
Bestival is renowned for being the closing festival of the summer, and on the whole normally manages to dodge any bad weather, but unfortunately for everyone going, things are different this year - it's gonna lash it down!
Writing on his NME blog, Da Bank said: "Tad damp down here after some hefty rain overnight but the vibes are positive and the weather's gonna perk up! There you are – British optimism at its best."
I'd normally feel a bit sad for festival goers who've got to compete with the weather, but not this time. It's amazing how bitter not getting a ticket can make you ...
