My column is a year-end review of Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi’s congressional self-dealing and ethics covers-up. On a related note, here’s an amusing story of blue-on-blue corruption conflict: Calif. Democrat Rep. Laura Richardson (flashback here on her financial scams) attacking Pelosi’s wealth:
The sources disagreed on the exact wording of the unusually direct shot at the party leader, but Richardson’s sentiment was clear: Pelosi, whose net worthis at least $40 million, doesn’t need the money as much as some of her colleagues, and she should have consulted with them before deciding to protect the GOP-written pay freeze.
It was “something like, ‘Well I am sorry, Madam Leader, but some of us are not in the financial situation you are in,’” said one source.

Nancy Pelosi, Down and Dirty

As a rueful Queen Elizabeth once said of a particularly rough year for the royal family, 2011 is “not a year on which” Queen Nancy Pelosi “shall look back with undiluted pleasure.” The former House Speaker relinquished her crown — er, gavel — in January. It’s been an epic downhill ski crash ever since.
Most recently, Pelosi faced questions from liberal “60 Minutes” and conservative investigative author Peter Schweitzer about a 5,000-share Visa stock purchase she made with her husband as the House was considering credit card regulations. She made a “killing” off the highly sought-after initial public offering. The stock holdings more than doubled in a few weeks; the credit card regulations were put on ice somewhere in the back of Pelosi’s fridge.
While she makes grand gestures toward banning congressional insider trading, San Fran Nan’s financial conflicts of interest are once again on display. This week, Reuters columnist Dan Indiviglio pointed to pending House legislation titled the “New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2011,” which is stuffed with natural gas vehicle subsidies: $9 billion worth, to be precise.

Surprise: Gingrich ethics files are public info
By Stephen C. Webster
Tuesday, December 6, 2011 7 Topics: former house speaker newt gingrich ♦ house minority leader nancy pelosi ♦ Surprise: Gingrich ethics files
A trove of documents detailing the shady dealings of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) are actually public domain, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Monday night after Gingrich threatened to have her brought up on charges if she disclosed information related to his House ethics violation in the 1990s.
Pelosi had told a reporter with Talking Points Memo that she knew quite a lot about Gingrich, having sat on the House committee which investigated him. “I know a lot about him,” Pelosi said. “I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.”
The remarks triggered a sharp reaction on Monday, essentially elevating the discussion into the upper-echelons of U.S. media. “If she’s suggesting that she’s going to use materials that she developed when she was on the ethics committee, that is a fundamental violation of the rules of the House, and I would hope that members would immediately file charges against her the second she does it,” Gingrich replied.
He also suggested that Pelosi’s comments were an “early Christmas present” to Republicans eager to gain footing in the national dialogue.
Tough luck for Gingrich: Pelosi now says she was talking about files that are already public.
She was referring to the years-long episode during which the former Speaker was subjected to a $300,000 fine by the House after he was discovered using tax-exempt groups to finance and support his political agenda. The scheme ultimately helped Republicans wrestle control of the House back to their side during the Clinton administration.
During the investigation, Gingrich reportedly lied to the ethics committee about using tax-exempt, ostensibly non-partisan organizations to further Republican causes — although he was not alone in committing these violations. Donors to these groups were simultaneously supporting their favored Republican causes and gaining a tax rebate, which is patently illegal.
Gingrich ultimately admitted that some of his statements to the committee were “inaccurate,” insisting his real crime was ignorance, and that he simply had not consulted a lawyer about the tax code.
After he paid the fine for violating House ethics, Gingrich was cleared of all but one of the 84 charges against him, namely because the House could not find any further ongoing violations.
The Progress and Freedom Foundation, one of the tax-exempt groups that helped finance a college course taught by Gingrich, was also cleared after an Internal Revenue Service audit.

In yet another startlingly conspicuous attempt at masking intentions to give you the shaft and steal you blind, Congress is dropping CRUMBS before you while they rape you from behind. Instead of closing 700 military installations on foreign soil and ending military aggression to secure petroleum for Big Oil, thereby returning trillions of dollars to your national treasury, the HOUSE is trumpeting the firing of 70 high school pages from the floor of the house! The hideousness of the issue is not that the need for pages is obsolete and actually an unnecessary expense, but it is sO gratuitous compared to the trillions of dollars which are being spent unnecessarily! But what have they done about that? T-O'd it to a "supercommittee" which will no more than recommend cutting health care, medicare, and social security, and education funding while not touching the trillions being siphoned out of your pockets and funneled into the pockets of war profiteers! This is equally insult, injury, and an outrage!

This morning President Obama met with 150 donors for his 2012 reelection campaign over breakfast at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco, California. However, the event turned interesting when nearly two dozen of his contributors pressed the president in song on the unjust confinement and tortuous treatment of alleged WikiLeaks whistle-blower US Army intelligence analyst PFC Bradley Manning. As the President spoke of the creative organizing that won him the 2008 election, over 10% of the attendees held up “Free Bradley Manning” signs and launched into a song entitled “Where’s our change?” As Secret Services agents attempted to grab the signs, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, and President Obama looked on.

There is “a war on women,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says, and it’s being led by her own colleagues on the other side of the aisle in Congress.
“There is actually a war on women,” the California Democrat said Thursday in Washington, taking aim at House Republicans’ efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict access to abortions, among other measures.
“Abortion is one issue, but contraception and family planning and birth control are opposed by this crowd too,” the first female speaker of the House said of Republicans at the Feminist Majority Foundation’s Women, Money and Power Summit, CNN reported.
“We have a big fight on our hands, in terms of respect for women, and our, what is right for our country in terms of our family decisions, in terms of Medicaid and Medicare,” she said. “We have to create a drumbeat across America.”
....
“If you are talking about jobs, their pay in the workplace, health care … no longer is being a woman a pre-existing medical condition. They want to change all of that,” Pelosi said. “So in every aspect — whether it is employment, whether it is education, whether it is health care, whether it is retirement, whether it is collective bargaining, which affects women as well — women have a lot to lose with the ideological old-style agenda of the Republicans.”
The teahadist-controlled Republican House is ready to shut the government down over women's access to healthcare. No more sliding scale PAP smears for you, and if you get cervical cancer because you haven't had screening, it's your own damned fault for having a sex life.
They are shutting down government to take control over your sex life, your health, your self-determination. Welcome to the Tea Party's 21st century America.

One of the Hollywood's top propagandists and producer of make-believe masquerading as history, Steven Spielberg is now advising Nancy Pelosi on rebranding Democrats
***
Lawmakers say she is consulting marketing experts about building a stronger brand. The most prominent of her new whisperers is Steven Spielberg, the Hollywood director whose films have been works of branding genius. Lawmakers said Spielberg has not reported to Pelosi with a recommendation.
Spielberg has been a power player in Democratic politics for years, working on everything from President Bill Clinton's millennial celebrations to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. He endorsed Hillary Clinton in the last presidential race, but since then he's helped fundraise for President Obama. One of the Hollywood's top propagandists and producer of make-believe... more

ALBANY, Ga. — U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop Jr., D-Albany, said Wednesday that it is time for Democrats to seek a new face for the party.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently announced plans to seek the House Minority Leadership position despite crushing defeats by Democrats in the midterm elections.
“I have nothing against Speaker Pelosi; she has worked tirelessly to bring Democrats together,” Bishop said. “But given the fact that we suffered substantial losses in the election, I think a new face is needed for leadership of the Democratic Caucus. When Republican John Boehner becomes Speaker of the House next year, nobody expects him to make women's rights--or parental rights--a priority.
He, after all, is no Nancy Pelosi, who wore purple--the color of the suffrage movement--to her swearing-in in 2007. This is a staunch social conservative whose sharp, tailored suits and slicked-back hair has led some call him Capitol Hill's "Don Draper," a character on the retro TV drama "Mad Men."
AMC's hit show is set in the 1960s ad world where the action revolves around the guys because that was the social script back then. The show is giving young people an eye-opening look at the demeaning treatment of women that was a cultural norm not so long ago.
Congress needs to act now--starting today at the beginning of the congressional "lame duck" session--to halt any erosion of recent gains and finish work on pending legislation that would improve the lives of women and mothers.
If this work isn't completed before the 111th Congress adjourns for the year, who knows how long it will be before a Speaker who so strongly supports women's and mothers' rights picks up the House gavel again.
