Manute Bol was memorialized at Washington National Cathedral Tuesday, and if anyone doubted the breadth of his legacy, one glance around the ornate hall confirmed it. Some of the Sudanese Lost Boys were there, adults whose lives had been saved by Bol when they were on the verge of starvation or massacre. A fair number of Muslims who hailed from various parts of Northern Sudan also came to pay their respects, an unusual sight only to those who didn't know of Bol's extraordinary capacity to love and forgive.

Manute Bol, a former center for the Washington Bullets remains in the hospital after being admitted last week with kidney failure and Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Bol was on his way back from several months in Sudan helping build a school wi th the Sudan Sunrise group. During his time over there Bol’s health had deteriorated. During an overnight layover at a hotel in Dulles, Virginia on his way back to Kansas Bol was rushed to a local hospital.
