Harry Reid has yet another reason to be angry about the Republican National Convention.
A night after Democrat-turned-independent Joseph Lieberman gave a rousing speech for John McCain, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took a pointed shot at Reid in her high-stakes VP nomination speech. Palin noted that if Reid "can't stand John McCain" — a recent Reid quote in a Las Vegas newspaper — then McCain must be doing something right in Washington.
"Ladies and gentlemen, perhaps no accolade we hear this week is better proof that we've chosen the right man," Palin said after quoting Reid. "Clearly what the majority leader was driving at is that he can't stand up to John McCain."
Here's Reid spokesman Jim Manley's response, sent to Politico a few minutes ago:
"Anyone who knows Sen. Reid knows he never backs down when he's fighting for what's right and that he always stands up to John McCain when he is wrong," Manley said. "Shrill and sarcastic political attacks may fire up the Republican base, but they don't change the fact that a McCain-Palin administration would mean four more years of failed Bush-Cheney policies."Harry Reid has yet another reason to be angry about the Republican National... more

DENVER -- Riot police maced unruly crowds gathering in front of the Denver City and County Building Monday evening on the first night of the Democratic National Convention.
It's believed to be the first time police used any force against protesters.
Authorities say police were trying to disperse a crowd of about 300 that had disrupted traffic near Civic Center Park, which is about a mile away from the main convention site -- the Pepsi Center.
About 100 officers gathered at 15th Street. It's not known if anyone has been hurt but the crowds continue to push and shove their way through, according to a 7NEWS reporter at the scene.DENVER -- Riot police maced unruly crowds gathering in front of the Denver City and... more

The Port Arthur News caught up with Lauren and Tyler on their swing through Texas.
From the article:
From the moment Lauren Cerre stepped off the big Greyhound bus in Port Arthur, her nose for news got a good whiff of the city that lives and breathes in the shadow of the petrochemical industry.
The 25-year-old journalist from San Francisco was in Port Arthur this week to capture the concerns of young people across America. In Port Arthur, she interviewed young people, ages 18 to 25, on a variety of topics including air pollution in a city that is experiencing one of the largest industrial boons in the nation.
“From the taxi driver to the store clerk at the convenience store, everyone is aware the odor and air quality of Port Arthur. It’s just a matter of how they deal with it,” Cerre said during a telephone interview Thursday.
Port Arthur is one of 10 U.S. cities included in Current TV’s Vanguard Special, “The Great American Detour.” The show will air on Current TV in early October at a yet-to-be-determined date. The Port Arthur News caught up with Lauren and Tyler on their swing through Texas.... more

Painting the illuminated woman in red, white and blue, I was feeling fiercely patriotic.
Thinking about how sexism is draining support for Hillary Clinton for President like a cut artery. Seeing young idealistic women buying Hillary's platform when it's shortened to 3 word sound bites by a tall younger man who looks presidential in a suit the way a woman never can, I was heartbroken by how people hate smart women.
The banning of this "Patriotic Woman" painting confirms how sexist America and the world is.
Pictures of penis's are ok and lingams like obelisks are the focal point of parks and monuments throughout the world like the Washington Monument and the Obelisk at the Place de la Concorde in Paris, and television is filled with commercials about male erectile disfunction, but "Patriotic Woman" must be deleted?
