URGENT: Peru Is Murdering Amazon Protesters!
In the past several days the Peruvian government murdered dozens of Indigenous protesters who tried to unite in peaceful protest against oil expansion in their forests.
Peru's President, Alan Garcia, says that in order to meet its Free Trade Agreement responsibilities to the United States Peru must prioritize the demands of international resource exploitation even as they undermine the land rights of Peru's Indigenous peoples.
And so far the US has been silent.
Act now and tell Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the US needs take a stand and formally demand that Peru end the violence now.
Your message will be sent as an electronic fax to Secretary Clinton in order to maximize your impact!URGENT: Peru Is Murdering Amazon Protesters!

Hundreds say no to the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement
National media blinked while Colombia took center stage outside the Liberal convention
Activities around conventions of Canada’s major political parties pale in comparison to the mobilizations around the Republican and Democratic National conventions in the US, but the federal Liberal party still felt some heat during their three-day bi-annual convention in Vancouver.

For the stimulus bills of both Houses have a “Buy American” provision mandating that in “public works” only U.S. iron, steel and manufactures be used. The provision came out of the appropriations committee of the House on a 55-to-0 vote.
The Senate watered it down by declaring the Buy American provision must be consistent with all U.S. trade commitments. But Congress is sending a message: The rebuilding of America is to be a project of, by and for Americans, not outsourced. Sen. McCain’s free-trade amendment, to strip all Buy American provisions from the bill, was routed 65 to 31.
The reaction of Barack Obama, a NAFTA skeptic in 2008 with bumper stickers that read, “Buy American, Vote Obama,” was to genuflect to the gods of globalism and recant his economic patriotism.
“I think it would be a mistake … at a time when worldwide trade is declining, for the United States to start sending a message that somehow we’re just looking out after ourselves,” he told Fox News. We don’t want to “trigger a trade war,” he told ABC.
Apparently, Obama was unnerved by rumbles from Europe, which is threatening to drag us before a World Trade Organization tribunal and have “Buy American” banished forever.

US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said today he supports the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the United States and Peru, but is against signing a trade deal with Colombia.
“I approved the Free Trade Agreement with Peru, but I’m against an agreement with Colombia”, said Obama in an interview published by the Chilean journal “El Mercurio”.
He stated that he will maintain this position until he is sure that “no union leaders are being murdered in Colombia” and added that “we need to stop these types of paramilitary activities”.
The presidential candidate said that the FTA between his country and Peru is the type of agreement needed because it respects workers' rights and the environment.
On the other hand, Obama regards Venezuela’s president, Hugo Chavez, as a “manageable threat” for his country’s security and he will be open for dialogue with Venezuela and Cuba if elected president.
Furthermore, Obama acknowledged that he had not been to Latin America, but said he would like to visit the region before the elections.
