Way back in 2008, when George W. Bush was still running the country, I rode a bicycle across the Southern Tier of the United States to document different environmental perspectives. At the time of the ride my Dad was going through Chemo and his first Bone Marrow Transplant. My Brother's girlfriend Meghan, age 24 was three years into chemo for colon and liver cancer. Meghan's fight with cancer was over in the end of July 2009.
During the making of this documentary I did not tell anyone I interviewed about my proximity to cancer. But it was the proximity to cancer that continued to get me further across the country on a bicycle everyday. More and more the thinking with cancer
is that it exists in all of our DNA. The triggers to manifest cancer come from the environment around us. Through out the bike ride ride I thought constantly of the fight that my Dad and Meghan were going through each day.
I wanted to know what people thought about the polluted planet we live on. Do they ask themselves about water and air quality issues? Is the food they are eating safe for human consumption? What do you think about climate change? Does God play a role in keeping the planet clean?

Chris Plante writes,
"It sure seems Modern Warfare (and its gobs of money) is the inspiration behind EA's announcement today of their new Medal of Honor. We know little about the game other than it takes place in Afghanistan and features a suspiciously bearded man. Suspicious, you say? Here's why:
Meet "Cowboy," an United States Special Forces officer and Medal of Honor Man's monozygotic twin. This particular picture (right), taken in August 24, 2002, is part of a series ran by Time magazine during the beginning of the War in Afghanistan. The snapshots showcase the man's every day routine: pumping iron, combing suspects and chasing women on his four-wheeler."

Country super-star Garth "I've Got Friends In Low Places" Brooks, is coming out of retirement! So all of you who secretly put on the "Thunder Roll's" when your lover is late, or still sing "The River" while you're in the shower, grab your cowboy hat and saddle up! He hasn't announced any tours, so I am assuming he is coming out with a new album. Hopeful it will be more "No Fences" and less "Sevens." Either way it is sure to be a classic, or at least this closet Brooks' fan hopes so. The only question is what big box retailer will he sign an exclusivity deal with?Country super-star Garth "I've Got Friends In Low Places" Brooks, is... more

Vladimir Putin certainly likes to stay active on holiday - but these pics make him look like a Russian cowboy!
On the schedule for his latest break: riding, sunbathing, perhaps some fishing - is it just an excuse to show off his toned upper body? Or does the Russian Prime Minister really need time to recover?
After all, the current financial crisis has hit Russia hard.Vladimir Putin certainly likes to stay active on holiday - but these pics make him... more

The tradition dates back to the Old West: A cowboy gently soothes his cattle with a simple song.
"Come on girls, let's go," the cowboy croons as he gathers his bovines from across the desert range. One day, this cowboy may not have to ride the range to corral his herd.
The "cowboy" is U.S. Department of Agriculture researcher Dean M. Anderson, who is working to corral cattle remotely through a high-tech device that funnels sounds directly to the animals.
It's Old West cattle herding with a 21st century twist -- part of a project involving the USDA and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the government's Jornada Experimental Range in southern New Mexico.
The wireless headset, called the "Ear-A-Round," has stereo earphones that transmit sounds directly into the cow's ears to guide its movement. Powered by a small solar energy panel, the unit contains a GPS device to monitor a cow's location and movement.
Researchers hope the device will give ranchers and farmers the ability to herd cattle from afar, said Daniela Rus, an MIT professor of electrical engineering and computer science who teamed with Anderson.
"It has the potential to give farmers a much finer control of pastures, finer management of where animals are and a better use of the land," said Rus, a robotics expert. "With this technology we can also find out what the animals do all day."
In essence, a rancher could stay in his air-conditioned office and check on the location of his animals by logging on to a computer. Another potential benefit would be eye-friendly vistas that have no fences. The tradition dates back to the Old West: A cowboy gently soothes his cattle with a... more
