Directed and produced by Matt Tyrnauer, a Vanity Fair correspondent, “Valentino” has been quietly selling out engagements in art houses across the country. After seven weeks of release, the film, now playing in 28 locations, has sold $736,755 in tickets – a very good showing for the embattled genre...
... The results are notable because Mr. Tyrnauer, a first-time filmmaker, turned down distribution offers from established companies - he’s not saying which ones – in favor of going it alone. The DIY-route in general is one that more filmmakers are pursuing as the specialty business shrinks...
The results are notable because Mr. Tyrnauer, a first-time filmmaker, turned down distribution offers from established companies - he’s not saying which ones – in favor of going it alone. The DIY-route in general is one that more filmmakers are pursuing as the specialty business shrinks.
Publishers have noticed and are releasing at least two new books on the subject: “The Reel Truth” by Reed Martin and the tentatively titled “A Practical Guide to the New World of DIY, Web and Hybrid Distribution for Filmmakers” by Jon Reiss.
Details on The Reel Truth are below in the reply section.

The Art House Co-op in ATL, Georgia sent out A LOT of sketchbooks across the country- artists from all over filled them in and 2,700 were sent back! The Art House Co-op is now driving on a cross country art exhibition tour known as The Sketchbook Project III! I got involved in this and it comes to Brooklyn, New York this Friday, March 13 where you can find ME partying it up and talking about art! (3rd Ward Gallery, Brooklyn NY, 11237.) This video takes a look at how I made my sketchbook.
The theme was "Everyone We Know", so I got my friends, some of whom might not normally consider themselves artists, to help me out! I also dedicated the book to my art mentor and grandmother, Emma Davy- March 13 is actually the anniversary of her death, and I couldn't think of a better way to honor her memory than an art show!
If you will be in the NY area come checkity check me out- if not, let me know what you think of the video (it's my first time recording and editing one!) and the sketchbook- you can find a slideshow of all the pages on my blog, deliatheartist.blogspot.com.The Art House Co-op in ATL, Georgia sent out A LOT of sketchbooks across the country-... more

One mans trash is another mans brick and mortar. For almost a quarter of a century, John Milkovisch has been transforming his home into a shrine of all things beer.
Known to generations of sidewalk gawkers as the Beer Can House, the folk art monument was dedicated Thursday and will open to the public on Saturday for the first time since its purchase from the Milkovisch family and a seven-year restoration project totaling $400,000.
No word on whether or not Coors will have a lemonade stand of sorts on the front lawn. One mans trash is another mans brick and mortar. For almost a quarter of a century,... more
