'tis that time of year again. St. Patrick's Day is upon us and, as usual, Dublin will be rolling out the green carpet for thousands of visitors from around the Bay Area and the Emerald Isles, too.
Start your day with a plate of green pancakes at the Fire Station 16
(7494 Donohue Drive) between 7 and 10 a.m.
The Lions' Club St. Patrick's Day Parade begins at 9:30 a.m.,
the parade returning to its old route around Dublin Boulevard, Village Parkway and Amador Valley Boulevard.
The festival remains outside the Civic Center, 100 Civic Plaza, where carnival rides, food and craft vendors and three stages of entertainment await. The main stage, food court stage and dance stage will be busy throughout the weekend (primarily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) with Irish music and dance.'tis that time of year again. Chicago, IL. - The South Side won’t be as Irish next year. The South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has decided it will not stage the popular parade on Western Avenue in 2010, the Sun-Times is reporting.
Founded in 1979, the parade was the brainchild of two South Side families seeking a neighborhood celebration of Irish heritage.
But times have changed. The parade now attracts more than 300,000 visitors a year and the sheer volume of people has created problems the neighborhood can no longer reasonably accommodate, the parade committee has decided.
“The committee will work to create a series of alternate events that will return us to what the parade’s founders had in mind -- a neighborhood-friendly celebration of Irish heritage,” the statement said.

Mayor of small Illinois town is pushing to make St. Patrick's Day a Federal Holiday.
Mayor Jim Burke sent a letter to three federal leaders: Sens. Dick Durbin and Roland Burris, and U.S. Rep. Bill Foster. In it, he asked Congress to recognize March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day – as a federal holiday.
“It is celebrated as a holiday now by millions of Americans every year, so it seems like it should be officially recognized as such,” the mayor wrote. “Can you help?”Mayor of small Illinois town is pushing to make St. Patrick's Day a Federal... more

On St. Patrick's Day, Ohio cops seized crack cocaine that had been dyed green, apparently in recognition of the holiday. Undercover drug task force agents seized the tinted crack after they observed a drug transaction occur at a Marietta residence, according to Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.
Oh and in Hollywood, apparently strawberry flavored cocaine is back "in" again...

Hilarious version of Tony and Tina's Wedding for the Boston set! March 15 at Stadium Bar.
Gino and Gillianne met by victims of circumstance. Gino was born and raised on Prince Street in the North End of Boston and Gillianne on “L” Street in Southie. Gino was a coffee shop lifer until he and his brother Gnicky (the G is silent) got a great idea to hold up a local bank in Downtown Crossing. Gillianne, a college graduate, worked at this local bank as a teller supervisor. When Gino arrived to “deposit” his money, he couldn’t follow the plan due to Gillianne’s beauty! So he asked her out instead!
Gino and Gillianne found themselves hanging out at Castle Island, wandering Fanuil Hall, and rooting for the Red Sox at Fenway Park! All was going picture perfect until Gino went to Gillianne’s house to “meet the parents!” That’s when Gino found out that Gillianne was the daughter of the Southie Cop, Captain Morgan, who patrols the North End. Gino and Captain Morgan have had a history of cat and mouse.
Gino and Gill’s love was too strong for even the Big Dig to keep them apart! Against Captain Morgan’s wishes, Gino and Gillianne have decided to get married and YOU ARE INVITED TO THE WEDDING!
