To celebrate “Earth Day,” I thought I'd provide a little comic interlude from the late, great George Carlin. If you're offended by so-called "bad language" or George Carlin himself, please move on to a more traditional "honoring" or "satirizing" of Earth Day.
I think it’s important for those of us who call ourselves environmentalists not to take ourselves too righteously. To celebrate “Earth Day,” I thought I'd provide a little comic... more

By playing this game, trees will be planted throughout the world!
Every answer you give helps plant a tree: 1 answer =1 leaf, 15 leaves = 1 branch, 20 branches =1 tree
I thought this website was awesum & wanted to share it with my fellow Current watchers.
How many trees can we plant together?!
How does this game work?
Answer4Earth has a vast collection of questions at varying degrees of difficulty. There are easier questions well-suited for children in grade-school learning elementary subjects and harder questions that will challenge even the smartest people in the world.
Answer4Earth automatically adjusts to your level of difficulty. When you begin, you are assigned an initial starting level based on a few classification questions. You then determine a more exact level for yourself as you play. Answer two questions in a row correctly and you go to a harder level. When you miss a question, you drop to an easier level. This challenging two-to-one ratio works best for keeping you at the outer boundary of your realm of knowledge, where the game becomes most meaningful and the most learning takes place. There are 20 levels in all, but it is rare for people to reach the higher ones.
Additionally, for each question you get right you earn a leaf. Collect enough leaves and they will turn into branches, which eventually turn into a full tree. This is not a fake "virtual" tree. This is a real live tree that will be planted on the face of the Earth, due solely to the fact that you played this game.
Start playing, save the environment!
By playing this game, trees will be planted throughout the world!

I know that many of you are already aware of this but there are still way too many people who think that hemp / canibus / marijuana are all the same thing.
Hemp and Canibus are sister plants. Marijuana is the bud of the Canibus plant.
Hemp does have very minuscule amounts of THC but not nearly enough for someone to get at all high even if they smoked their own body weight. Point of the matter is that hemp isn't used for smoking.
Now some of the upsides of hemp:
Hemp Produces More Oxygen Than Most Trees
Requires No Harmful Chemicals
Makes Carbon Neutral Biofuels
Hemp Milk / Shakes / Other Good Drinks and Foods
Hemp Paper / Hemp Rope / Hemp Clothing
Hemp Plastic (yes you can make biodegradable plastic with hemp)
Great In Every Way For The Environment
........

.
The list could go for a while especially if I get specific but I feel I've made my point.I know that many of you are already aware of this but there are still way too many... more

Malaysia's government owned and subsidized oil palm cooking oil and biofuel
industry -- the scourge of Asia and the world's rainforests -- is continuing to
expand, this time into the heart of the Brazilian Amazon
BRIEF BACKGROUND:
Malaysia‘s Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) will soon break ground on
a joint venture with a Brazilian firm to establish 30,000-100,000 hectares (ha;
75,000 – 250,000 acres) of oil palm plantations in the heart of Brazil's Amazon
rainforest. Similar oil palm development continues to devastate Asia-Pacific's
rainforests, and increasingly the world, with some thirty square miles of carbon
and biodiversity rich habitat being cleared a day to provide cooking oil and
transport biodiesel. Oil palm agrofuel is heralded as a climate change
mitigation measure, yet the initial rainforest clearance leads to much more
carbon release than its production and use avoids.
Large scale biofuel production runs counter to urgently addressing climate
change and threatens to cause more deforestation, hunger, human rights abuses,
and degradation of soil and water. Global ecological sustainability and local
well-being depend critically upon ending all industrial development in the
world's remaining old forests -- including plantations, logging, mining and
dams. The amount of primary and old growth forests that have been lost has
already overshot the carrying capacity of Earth. Globally there are not enough
old forests to maintain climatic and hydrological cycles, meet local forest
dwellers' needs, and to maintain ecosystems and the biosphere in total. Local
peoples must be assisted to fully protect, restore and benefit from intact,
standing forests.

No longer are they vibrant centers of suburban commerce. Instead, they often are homes to 99-cent shops and low-rent liquor stores. Their signs are decaying, their sidewalks cracked.
Hundreds of these aging mid-size strip centers sit on prime real estate throughout the region, underutilized and bound for blight.
...Orange County is projected to grow in the next 20 years by 600,000 residents...
...State projections show that sometime between 2010 and 2025, there will be no more vacant land to build on in Orange and Los Angeles counties...
Solution: Convert those strip centers into little villages where homes would be nestled among the stores, with parking stacked above, so those vast, unattractive paved lots could be put to much better use, maybe even as pocket parks.
