My sister and I enjoyed a memorable trip to Bhutan, a country long on our “to go” places. Namgay Dorji and Tashi from Bhutan Majestic Travel were extremely helpful in planning our itinerary which included the Druk Trek and sightseeing in Thimpu, Paro, Wangdu and Punakha. Being independent travelers, our guide, Tashi, scheduled free time for us to “hang-out” and explore at our leisure which was very much appreciated (not use to being on a schedule or with a guide). Our trekking team was second to none and a fine example of Bhutanese hospitality. We look forward to our next adventure in Bhutan - love to explore the west and maybe a little birding too.

Bhutan Travel PhotoOur trip to Bhutan was extraordinary. Our group of five came from Canada (3) and Switzerland (2). Namgay set up a specialized itinerary for us including a cultural tour and the 9-day Jhomolhari Trek. The equipment provided by BMT was not the latest or the best but the service was excellent.
Our guide Jigme was very attentive and flexible. Although we had a full itinerary, he willingly led us on unplanned activities like hiking an unknown trail into the Ura Valley, accepting an invitation to rice beer at a farm above the Bumthang and another to butter tea at the Trashigang festival. We felt privileged to be included in a tourist reception line and be addressed by the King at Jakar Dzong.
Bhutan Travel Photo2The Jhomolhari Trek was incredible. Our cook Leki was a marvel; he made excellent 6 and 7 course meals on a 2-burner propane stove. Our gradual assent with two days acclimatization at base camp worked: no negative effects with the high altitude. In fact, we felt so good at Shodu Pass (4970 meters), we all scrambled to the 5000 meter mark. The superb weather – was it luck? blessings? or a result of prayers from Jigme, our devoted guide?

Recommended Local travel agent and guide
Steve and Donnie SmalleyWe recently returned from a one week trip to Bhutan. We traveled via Bangkok from Beijing, China where we live. We traveled with two small children (5 and 8 years old). We had a wonderful time and a lot of the reason has to be due to the excellent service we received from the local travel agent we used (Bhutan Majestic Travel and its owner/manager Namgay Dorji and our excellent guide Tashi Wangchuk).
We were a little worried about what to expect taking two small children into Bhutan but the itinerary they arranged for us was flexible to take into the account the children s and our needs. On arrival in Thimpu we even received a visit for dinner from Namgay to make sure everything was going as we hoped and planned.
We arranged our trip over the internet. After our positive experence I cannot see any reason why anyone would want to use an external (to Bhutan) travel agent. We already intend to return again (and this time plan to go further East as we only made it as far as Punakha on this trip). We will definitely use Bhutan Majestic Travel again next time and ask for Tashi Wenchuk to be our guide. Tashi is a local guide who lives on the outskirts of Paro. He trained in Tourism and Hotel Management in India and had worked as a Manager for the Amankora Resort in Paro before becoming a freelance guide. Our children thought he was great and on the last day he even brought along his own son so the children had a ball.
Our tour with Tashi (and our driver Ugyen) started in Paro, then we went via Thimphu to Punakha and then returned by the same route. The Paro and Thimphu valleys were very different than Punakha (due to the elevation differences) so it was well worth the driving trip over the Dochu La where we incredibly lucky to see the Himalayan peaks.

This is a strenuous 10 days trek, starting from Drukgyel Dzong, Paro and ending at Dodina, Thimphu. This trek is one of the most popular treks in Bhutan, passing through scattered hamlets and farm land into densely forested valleys. It takes us to high alpine pasture land, where yak herders gaze their animals. The trek offers a great variety of landscape and stunning views of the Himalayan peaks. Along the trek route you will see the Blue sheep and many other examples of our wild life.
The trek takes up the Paro Chu (valley) to Jhomolhari base camp over the first three days. The views at the camp are amongst the best in the Himalayas. For those that are carrying on over the 2 high passes we spend a day at base camp to acclimatize and tour the region. Then it is over the first of the high passes - Nyilela pass 4870m (15680ft) an exciting adventure as we continue along a mountain ridge getting fabulous views of the Himalayas up close. We spend the night near a military camp and next day can either be at rest for exploration of the Linjshi valley and Dzong. Its then over the highest pass of the trek at 4930m (16270ft) Yelila pass frequently snow covered. From there it is a 3 day trek down the valley to Thimphu – climbing up to highs as we go. The scenery is sometimes ragged as we cut through deep gorges and always green.

You must seek out the chilly man.
Bhutan Majestic Travel you must book,

Temples, Dzongs or Trekking Path,

Our Chilly Man is “thak thak-bay”
The ifs and where’s along the road,

Naked Indians, monks with phones,

All this made pos’, and I’m not silly,
By two guys fired on rice and Chilly!
We learned of Drukpa Kuenley, monk insane
And saw a solo black necked crane.
We shopped ’till we were on our knees
And burned our mouths on chilly cheese.
The Rhoddies were red, the trekking done,
The prayers were said, the wheels were spun.
Mystery and magic, close at hand,
How lucky us in Dragon Land.
So if you are going to Bhutan,
You must seek out the Chilly Man.

The 44-year-old man who was hit by an arrow yesterday has died. The man was from Sisina in Thimphu. He was admitted in the intensive care unit of the national referral hospital yesterday after he was hit by an arrow.
Speaking to BBS yesterday, Dr. Tashi Tenzin, a neurosurgeon with the national referral hospital said the man has been hit by the arrow above the left eye piercing deep into the brain.
He said it has caused excessive bleeding and damaged the brain severely.
Dr. Tashi Tenzin said the arrow had been removed before the man was brought to the hospital.
