CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A dog that attacked two Chattanooga police cars has been sentenced to obedience and canine good citizen classes.

Tennessee Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga began testing prospective employees this week for smoking. If the tests come back positive, their chances of being hired go up in smoke.

On many occasions I have mentioned that I live on Suck Creek Mountain within the Prentice Cooper State Forest. I have posted several videos and photos making mention of this beautiful place atop a mountain near to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Today, I made the journey to Suck Creek from where I live and as you will see the view is quiet enjoyable.
It rained hard for a total of 16 hours and so much that Hamilton County Schools were closed today along with several other surrounding counties. With all of this rain, it has over-filled all creeks and streams, flooding many rivers and lakes. I had to take a trip down the side of the mountain to see the effects it made to Suck Creek. It was awesome to find the raging waters.

Living within the Prentice Cooper State Forest, I have nature at my front and back doors. More than just leaves on the ground or creeks flowing. I walked out on my deck the other day and there were 8 to 10 hawks circling above moving north with every circle. It is beautiful and peaceful. I hope you will come visit this awesome forest.
Prentice Cooper State Forest
Whitetail Deer muzzleloader season began this week at Prentice Cooper State Forest and other state natural areas. Gun season runs Nov. 22 – Dec. 7. If you’re out hiking or mountain biking, please wear bright colors and be aware and considerate of hunters. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency now offers a downloadable calendar card that profiles all Tennessee yearly hunt dates.
Prentice Cooper State Forest is located in Marion County and covers approximately 27,000 acres. The State Forest lies atop Suck Creek Mountain overlooking the Tennessee River Gorge.
PRENTICE COOPER HOLDS MANAGED DEER AND TURKEY HUNTS EACH FALL AND SPRING
Each spring and fall, Prentice Cooper State Forest and Wildlife Management Area holds managed turkey and deer hunts for licensed and permitted hunters. The area west of State Highway 27 (Suck Creek Road) will be closed to visitors, except hunters, on the following dates:
April 1-6, 2008
April 8-10, 2008
April 17-19, 2008
April 22-27, 2008
The area east of State Highway 27, including Edwards Point, will still be open to the public during these hunts. As a courtesy to hunters, we STRONGLY recommend that hikers wear hunter orange during the fall and spring in ALL Wildlife Management Areas.

This is part 2 of my walk into the Prentice Cooper State Forest and Wildlife Management Area located atop Suck Creek Mountain on Waldens Ridge in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Venturing into the woods I find myself surrounded by trees and fallen wood from awhile past. I discover a bone lying next to a tree. It is very old and decayed, however, there are marks on it as if a wild animal may have been biting on it and I see there are what would appear to be blood spots on one end.This is part 2 of my walk into the Prentice Cooper State Forest and Wildlife... more

Twenty years after the closure of its last American plant, Volkswagen is returning to the United States. With its planned factory in Chattanooga, the company is hoping to regain US market share and also buffer itself from euro-dollar currency fluctuations.
German carmaker Volkswagen announced on Tuesday it would invest close to €1 billion ($1.59 billion) to build its first factory in the United States after the closure of its last plant 20 years ago. The company said it expects to open a new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee by 2011. VW plans to produce 150,000 automobiles annually at the site as part of its effort to increase market share in America, which has eroded in recent years.

VW to build plant in Chattanooga

Volkswagen AG will build its first United States assembly plant in Chattanooga, officials said today.
Europe’s biggest automaker said it will put a nearly $1 billion investment in Chattanooga’s Enterprise South Industrial Park.
The plant is expected to create 2,000 jobs. It is expected to open in 2011.
“The U.S. market is an important part of our volume strategy, and we are now very resolutely accessing that market,” said Martin Winterkorn, chief executive of Volkswagen.
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen said he is “enormously pleased” by the announcement.
Mr. Bredesen and other officials including Volkswagen of America’s chief executive, were slated to be at Hunter Museum of American Art at 11:30 a.m. for an announcement.
“I believe Volkswagen chose Tennessee because of our shared values, our commitment to innovation and our strong respect for the environment,” he said.
Matt Kisber, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, said he could not be more pleased in the partnership between the state, VW and Chattanooga and Hamilton County government.
Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey said he has worked with four different city mayors and other officials with a vision of transforming the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant site.
Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield said VW and Chattanooga have a lot in common.
“Both are serious about environmental sustainability and 21st century manufacturing,” he said.
U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said the community has maintained its focus
Officials at the Wolfsburg-based company said the surging euro has pushed plans for a production facility forward. The 15-nation currency has hit record highs recently against the U.S. dollar, making goods exported from Germany more expensive in the United States.
Volkswagen recently moved its North American headquarters from suburban Detroit to Herndon, Va., outside Washington, to bring it closer to its East Coast customer base.
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, who landed in Chattanooga early today, said he is “enormously pleased” with the facility coming to Southeast Tennessee.
Erich Merkle, vice president of forecasting auto industry forecaster IRN Inc., said suppliers will build facilities to support the assembly plant.
Chattanooga beat out bids by Alabama and Michigan for the plant.
The announcement came Tuesday from Lower Saxony Minister President Christian Wulff, who sits on the supervisory board of Europe's largest automaker.VW to build plant in Chattanooga
