"Gun-free zones" don't work. Look at VT and NIU. It was illegal to carry a gun there, but the criminals did anyway. Why?...because a person bent on stealing from, hurting, or killing another does not care if a sign says "No guns on school grounds." "Gun-free zones" only disarm law-abiding citizens. This means that ONLY the criminals will have guns. Why should we make rules that give murderers free reign until police can get there (which is usually several minutes to a half-hour).
Why should we stop law-abiding adults from carrying guns on campus? These people already safely carry in places like churches, movie theaters, supermarkets, and offices. There is no reason to think that they will suddenly change because they are standing on land owned by the school. These people are the ones we want to have guns! Statistically, they commit fewer crimes than police officers, and should they need to defend themselves, miss less often than the police! These are people who want to protect themselves, and in doing so, would protect those around them.

Check out this blog that I ran across on digg.com about the idea of letting students who are of age and have permits carry guns whether its on or off campus. Some even comment on the use of CCLs as a way to increase security. See what you think.Check out this blog that I ran across on digg.com about the idea of letting students... more

My name is Nichole. I am a Current Student Executive Producer at Northwestern. We have a high number of muggings and robberies on and off campus here, so I do worry about my safety walking around and to and from my house to campus. However, I do not feel that students should necessarily have guns on campus because I do not think that owning guns is the solution to safety issues. The goal is to work toward a safer environment, and increase understanding and awareness in order to decrease shootings, robberies, and so on. Though I do not know what the answer to the problem is, unfortunately; for me, owning a gun is not it.My name is Nichole. I am a Current Student Executive Producer at Northwestern. We have... more

My name is Alec Jankowski and I go to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Even though I live in a pretty bad neighborhood, I don't think students should be allowed to own guns on campus, simply because I believe they cause more problems than they solve. My name is Alec Jankowski and I go to the Savannah College of Art and Design in... more
