✰ Indie Game of the Month: Volume 1 ✰

Indie games are overlooked by most gamers, mostly due to the fact that they don't get as much advertising as the "big games"(Halo, Killzone, Resident Evil, etc...) do, and partly because people just don't know they exist. Recently though, Playstation has been releasing independent games like flOw, on their marketplace, which I think is great.

There are thousands of indie games available to you, but not all of them are good. Thats why I will be highlighting one game every month that I thought deserved attention.
MOST high selling games tend to focus on amazing graphics, how much content the developer can fit into the game, and having good online multiplayer. Indie games are not like that. Most Indie game developers try to make the game a unique, original experience, and be fun overall. You have to understand this before you judge an indie game, or try to compare it to Halo 3.I wont be judging these games by specific guideline, rather by what I liked and disliked about them. Some people may have different views, and thats ok. I encourage everyone to try these games and submit their own opinion of them.

The first game I've chosen is Cortex Command.

This side scrolling action game is set in the future, where humans have decided to take out their brains to prolong their life. The brain(you) controls an army of robots, soldiers, and vehicles. The ultimate goal is to protect the brain, and destroy the opposing force. Pretty simple.
This game reminds me of Worms(awesome game) for some reason, and thats why I decided to try it out. And there is some similarities to Worms too, you control multiple guys, all on different areas of the battlefield. And the goal of the game is simply to kill the other team.
The point of this game is simple, but when you actually play it there are a TON of items like weapons, vehicles, bases, soldiers, and upgrades to choose from. I love this, because one thing that will make me play a game for a long time is the ability to customize. And this game doesn't fail in that area. There is a whole scenario editor where you can create your own base, and army to fight with the computer, or with up to 4 of your friends on the same computer. Also I think they MIGHT have online play in the future but don't quote me on it.

The plethora of options in this game could be a drawback to some because of the learning curve, but this issue should be sorted out when the final version of the game is released.
Accessibility is another important thing, this game is available for the PC and Mac, and you don't need a good computer to play it, most average computers should have no trouble playing it.
Most importantly, this game is fun. I've just been playing the demo version, and I'm tempted to buy the full game.
