News International chairman James Murdoch is being questioned for a second time by MPs about phone hacking at the News of the World today. He today denied that he misled the House of Commons Committee but that both his former employees were the ones who did not tell the whole truth when they gave evidence earlier in the year. Murdoch's testimony to the culture, media and sport committee in July is being disputed by the NoW's former legal manager Tom Crone. And the NoW's ex-chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck has claimed the paper did not act on information he gave it about hacking. Both James and Rupert Murdoch denied knowing the full extent of the allegations until evidence in civil cases was requested in late 2010.James Murdoch told the committee he had not been "aware" of an email suggesting hacking went beyond a single "rogue" reporter, Clive Goodman, who was jailed for four months in 2007.The email, marked "for Neville" and assumed to refer to Thurlbeck, contained transcripts of private voicemail messages revealing that Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor's phone had been hacked. However, two former NoW executives - former editor Colin Myler and former legal manager Tom Crone - later issued a statement claiming they "did inform him" of the email in 2008 when he agreed to settle the Gordon Taylor case.
Feisty MP Tom Watson stunned Mr Murdoch when he referred to him as a maffia boss. Murdoch said he found the line of questioning offensive.

Sara Payne, whose eight-year-old daughter Sarah was abducted and murdered in July 2000, has been told by Scotland Yard that they have found evidence to suggest she was targeted by the News of the World's investigator Glenn Mulcaire, who specialised in hacking voicemail.
Police had earlier told her correctly that her name was not among those recorded in Mulcaire's notes, but on Tuesday officers from Operation Weeting told her they had found her personal details among the investigator's notes. These had previously been thought to refer to a different target.
Friends of Payne have told the Guardian that she is "absolutely devastated and deeply disappointed" at the disclosure. Her cause had been championed by the News of the World, and in particular by its former editor, Rebekah Brooks. Believing that she had not been a target for hacking, Payne wrote a farewell column for the paper's final edition on 10 July, referring to its staff as "my good and trusted friends".

For those who read the 1lovejoy blog, you are well aware of this blog’s disdain for Rupert Murdoch questionable journalistic practices; his business dealings and neo conservative politics. It’s not surprising that Mr. Murdoch’s companies are in a bit of a pickle. He has weathered scandal before but somehow this phone-hacking scandal is different. It shows how Mr. Murdoch and his hand-picked lieutenants created a culture of pay-offs and intimidation. It seemed to be inevitable that one of his news media outlets would take things too far in order to get a story. For those who read the 1lovejoy blog, you are well aware of this blog’s disdain... more

LONDON — Britain’s News of the World tabloid will print its last ever edition on Sunday following a scandal over phone hacking, owner Rupert Murdoch’s son James Murdoch said Thursday.
“Having consulted senior colleagues, I have decided that we must take further decisive action with respect to the paper. This Sunday will be the last issue of the News of the World,” Murdoch, the chairman of News International, said in a statement.
He said that if allegations that a private investigator working for the 168-year-old Sunday tabloid hacked the voicemail of a teenage girl who was later found murdered were true, they were “inhuman.”
“The News of the World is in the business of holding others to account. But it failed when it came to itself,” he added.
“Wrongdoers turned a good newsroom bad and this was not fully understood or adequately pursued.”
James Murdoch said the conviction in 2007 for phone hacking of the paper’s royal correspondent Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire had failed to cure the problem.
“The News of the World and News International failed to get to the bottom of repeated wrongdoing that occurred without conscience or legitimate purpose.”
He added that any advertising space in the final edition would be donated “to causes and charities that wish to expose their good works to our millions of readers.

If you want to read a news article from the Times online, you better be prepared to pay £1 per day or £2 a week with a subscription account because today the pay wall went up.
The website has been building this venture for a while and allowed users to preview the new site via a registration before the wall went up.
"Currently the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal are the only major papers to have similar paywalls. All other national papers offer free access to their sites, but are likely to watch the launch of the Times paywall closely."-BBC
There are a few reports of bugs coming up, with the BBC saying the Times online traffic dropped by 60%. Though it is early days yet for the pay wall, will it change and develop? If you want to read a news article from the Times online, you better be prepared to... more

It seems that Labour's Lord 'Bra Wars' Mandelson called News International CEO, Rebekah Mitchell and her colleagues a bunch of c**ts during a heated phone call.
Oops, did I call her a Mitchell? I meant Wade (or Brooks?). Silly me. These mistakes are easily done.

This is a shocking video of modern day genocide being commited by the church, the corporations, and government, today in the country of Canada. Unless you watch this, you wouild never believe that this is happening today, in our neighboring county. I love Canada. I love the land and the people, but after watching this shocking report of atrocities that are taking place today,I have no illusions about the government there, especially the government/church/ and corporation alliance
Most media outlets around he world, have caved into pressure about the viewing of the horrible trith, and the revelations of the ongoings of the church. I can only hope that current.com does not fall prey to the same tactics. For those of us that seek truth in everything that we encounter today, this a must see video, and please pass it on. Gordon Brown has demanded the scrapping of longstanding plans for a clampdown on newspapers that illegally buy personal data, such as health, bank and telephone records, the Guardian reports.
There has been a campaign by leading newspapers, including representatives of the Daily Mail, News International and the Telegraph, to lobby the prime minister about the bill and critics say that Brown has bowed to this pressure.
This kind of press behaviour has already been illegal for 15 years, but because the current penalties are only fines, the law has been widely flouted.
Last year a News of the World reporter was jailed under existing laws for hacking into royal telephone messages in pursuit of gossip.
A spokesman for the Daily Mail said "If the legislation were to proceed, Britain would be virtually the only civilised country in the world where journalists and editors could be jailed for doing their job. These views have made known to the prime minister and the minister of justice by senior industry figures."
There have been reports of rows in Whitehall over the threatened U-turn. One senior Whitehall source said last night: "These media barons - just how much power do they have?"
The government's sudden retreat also drew criticism last night from the information commissioner, Richard Thomas, who said it was vital to stand firm against "powerful last-ditch efforts" by the media to derail new laws.
