"At the time the measure was revealed, Government sources suggested anonymity would only be lifted after a defendant had been through the courts and convicted. But speaking at his first Prime Minister's Questions yesterday, Mr Cameron suggested the new rules may only hide the identity of defendants until they were formally charged."-Independent
Women groups are concerned over the proposed plans to grant anonymity to defendants in rape cases. In yesterdays PMQ's, Harriet Harman presented the case against the plans because defendant anonymity would prevent any other rape victims from coming forward in court cases and it would cause juries to not believe the rape victim.
It sounds like from the article, the proposals for anonymity between arrest and charge will go forward for examination and debate in the House."At the time the measure was revealed, Government sources suggested anonymity... more

Minister for Women Harriet Harman, who is known for her staunch feminist views, has been nominated for the annual Rear of the Year award.
The MP makes an unusual candidate considering she has previously sought for pictures of Page 3 girls banned from the workplace to protect the sensitivity of some staff.
Last year's winners were singers Rachel Stevens and Russell Watson. Other previous winners include Denise van Outen and Charlotte Church.

Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman is to be prosecuted over a minor car accident in her south London constituency in July.
She faces prosecution for allegedly driving without due care and attention and driving while using a mobile phone.
The Crown Prosecution Service has said there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to prosecute.
A spokeswoman for Ms Harman said she "strongly refutes the allegations and will deny the charges".
As always the police go after the trivial matters, if they were really concerned with justice our whole parliament would be locked up!

Arnold Schwarzenneger has been asked to put a stop to an American website which allows men to rate prostitutes, some of whom work in London.
Harriet Harman, minister for women and equality, told the ruling Labor Party's annual conference that "Punternet" fuels the demand for prostitution -- a vice she said degrades women and puts them at risk adding that the website was "very sinister development"

Harriet Harman will stand in for Gordon Brown in Whitehall while he's on holiday, it emerged today, despite officials previously being briefed that Chancellor Alistair Darling and Justice Secretary Jack Straw would stand in for the PM while he's having his little (oh, sorry, enormous) summer rest.
As Ms Harman began issuing demands at No. 10 for her residency, mystery surrounds why she had not previously been mentioned for the stand-in job.
The news sparked suggestions that she would be the first woman to run the country since Margaret Thatcher. But the PM's official spokesman played down this idea, saying: "The Prime Minister is the Prime Minister and remains in charge whether he is on holiday or not."
Could Harriet Harman be the UK's next Prime Minister? Is she quietly plotting to move in while Gordon Brown's out of the picture? And would she be an apt replacement for the dour, wobbly-jawed Scot (you know what I mean - that gross, tongue-y, jaw-y 'mneuh' thing he does) now that he faces more troubling times than ever before?

Trust the Daily Express to lead with this ridiculous headline. However, I think the story deserves more attention. This Equality Bill seems a little unnecessary and will breed resentment of the very groups it is trying to support. I appreciate that the pay gap between white men and other groups is often without foundation but is this really the answer?Trust the Daily Express to lead with this ridiculous headline. Dressed up as "Cash Gordon" and "Captain Conception" Fathers 4 Justice activists, Mark Harris and Jolly Stanesby, from Devon, unfurled a banner from the top of Harriet Harman's house reading, "A father is for life, not just conception".
How on earth these guys continue to get where they do astounds me, but they're making the headlines at least. Do they prove that not all press is good press or are they making waves in all the right places?
You can read an interview with Matt O'Conner, the man who started Fathers 4 Justice here:

Following in the footsteps of her colleague Jacqui Smith who considered herself hip for buying a kebab in Peckham, Harrien Hannan has had a similar PR disaster. On a tour of her constituency, Peckham in South London, Harman was seen sporting a delightful stab proof vest, not because she was frightened of the threat of violence but "as a matter of courtesy and because I was going out with the team." A faux pas indeed.
"No one takes her seriously," one minister said, "and the idea of her appearing at PMQs is frankly terrifying. The Tories will have a field day."
Whether she wore the vest out of fear or it was a PR mistake we will probably never know, but it's clear that it has become ammunition for Labour opposition. Liberal Democrat mayoral candidate Brian Paddick chimed in on the whole affair.
"The fact the deputy leader has to wear a stab-proof jacket to protect her from her own constituents is a sad indictment of mayor Ken Livingstone's failure to deal with gun and knife crime."
