The boys at Dark Town Music Group stayed up all night FrIday June 5 2009 trying to think of another way to tell the world about the unsung Black Jewish Atlanta rapper Lord Hector Diono. "We visited a site called www.iamhiphop.com and that's when it came to me" belted one the crew members, "Call Hector see if he's up and tell'em to get over here to do the voice over". We called Hec and naturally he was up. After 4 lines and a shot of Belvedere the vibe was set and the commercial was edited and printed for our favorite mother in the whole world, her name? In 1985, the Chicago Bears released the Superbowl Shuffle. The song was a hit, raised tons of money for charity, and even got a Grammy nomination. But most importantly, it spawned a new genre--NFL rap. Plenty of other teams tried to replicate the Bears' musical success, but most of them came up short and looked, well, really, really gay. Twenty years later, they seem even more ridiculous, which of course only makes the videos even more popular. Leading up to this year's Superbowl, Douglas Caballero and the Daily Fix count down the Top 3 Most Homoerotic Videos of NFL Teams Singing and Dancing.

The Flaming Lips have finally released their long-awaited film debut, Christmas On Mars: A Fantastical Film Freak-out Featuring The Flaming Lips. The film, which took over 7 years to complete, was directed by lead singer Wayne Coyne and stars members of the band as well as Adam Goldberg.
In this special, Wayne Coyne hosts a half hour of Current Music where he discusses the making of the film and soundtrack as well as giving our audience a look at clips from the movie, behind the scenes footage, and other inside thoughts on the themes of the film.
The New York Times wrote that Christmas On Mars is "destined for cult status. Forget the plot, it's about textures: black and white images with psychedelic bursts; dashes of David Lynch, the '70s midnight movie Dark Star and 2001; an echo of The Wizard of Oz; and in a riff on maternity, maybe an iota of The Matrix."The Flaming Lips have finally released their long-awaited film debut, Christmas On... more

This is the first video of a partnership where Current TV will air exclusive Take Away Shows from La Blogotheque.
La Blogotheque founder Chryde descripes the shooting of the video:
It was in February, before their album was out, before they were praised by Pitchfork and others (including us). They had long hair, they were smiling, living in a van hippie-style, and they waited for Nate Chan and me on the parking lot of a McDonald’s, in an area of San Francisco hamming the flower power nostalgia. Pecknold was excited just like a kid after he found an abandoned gymnasium in a street behind. They played in the grass, hummed while walking. It was the before-the-success band. Carefree, unpressured, no heavy recognition.
Other Take Away shows to follow include The Dodos, Grand Archives, Emily Jane White and Quasi. This is the first video of a partnership where Current TV will air exclusive Take Away... more
