Marks and Spencers have been forced to apologise for selling bra style tops to children as young as six years of age.
The controversy follows the withdrawal of padded bikini tops by Primark last month which were aimed at very young girls after outcry from parents and consumer groups.
Until earlier this week the retailer sold Santoni heart-patterned underwear which it described as "crop tops" on its website. However, on the high street the clothes were labelled as "bra tops".
The website described the product as "a great way of getting girls used to the idea of wearing bras".

Clothing chain Primark has withdrawn the sale of its range of padded bikini tops for girls as young as seven following criticism.
The company apologised to customers for "causing offence" and said it would donate profits to a children's charity.
The Children's Society criticised Primark for "premature sexualisation and unprincipled advertising".
Conservative leader David Cameron said it was "disgraceful" but later added he was delighted by the withdrawal.
The £4 bikini sets came in candy pink with gold stars and black with white polka dots.

You have to wonder what they were initially thinking but Primark seems to have come to their senses finally and decided to withdraw a range of padded bikinis that was aimed at girls as young as 7.
The Sun led the outrage today, with the slightly confusing front cover headline "Paedo Bikini!" which probably conjured up more images of Gary Glitter in swimwear than the nation's white van men were comfortable with.
David Cameron joined the condemnation in a radio interview. He said:
"There is a classic example today where Primark are apparently pushing padded bras on seven-year-olds, which I think is completely disgraceful.
"The sort of country I want is one where it is not just the government (that) feels outraged about the early commercialisation and sexualisation of our children but companies should stop doing it, they should take some responsibility."
Primark have since taken the bikinis off the shelves and pledged to donate any profits from previous sales to charity.

It begins..
"When I shop, I become a fierce, focused creature who does not like to be disturbed by ANYONE. When a friend asks me if I’d like to go shopping, I always try to weasel out of it. I don’t want to be interrupted with questions about HER dress or what I think about how HER shoes look on HER feet. I need to focus on the sale racks, sizes—my eyes rapidly scanning for deals without any deterrent.
I love shopping. There are many women who detest it and only go when they have to find an outfit for an occasion. I adore just heading out and perusing the boutiques seeing what I can drool over and store in my mind for when the sales come. I love the air-conditioned rooms, the music the they play, the pang in my heart when I see a tag with a red slash through it. I am a hunter and clothes are my prey….."
Read on…it’s HILARIOUS! Great pictures (Kate Moss in lingerie….how can you beat that……..) and it’s a witty, well-written quick-read.

Another week, another social media faux pas by staff of a retail chain...
This time it's Primark turn - their staff using Facebook to bitch about their customers. According to the discount retailer's employees customers are fat, pikey, twats. Oh, and the pay is apparently shit.
As is often the case, reading the comments to the article is more fun than the article itself. The best one being from Nicola Lucas who says:
"i don't really get who it offends, i shop in primark but i know they're not talking about me. Anyone who is offended is admitting that they are fat twats, so i don't really see a problem."Another week, another social media faux pas by staff of a retail chain...

Special K conducted a survey of clothes outlets in the U.K. and discovered that Primark has the least generous sizing, compared to other clothing stores.
There is something so heartbreaking about going into a shop and finding yourself one size 'bigger' than you thought. But for £6 dresses and vests from £1, this consumer is hardly going to complain. Just cut out all the labels when she gets home.Special K conducted a survey of clothes outlets in the U.K. and discovered that... more

With the go ahead given to the Sex And The City Movie sequel apparently SJP wants to make the new film "recession-friendly"
This could prove a bit tricky as the series and the film especially seemed to be one long fashion commercial, featuring product placement after product placement?

A BBC investigation also discovered that employees in UK factories are actually getting paid in cash for their backbreaking shifts, not in salt and chocolate as previously thought. Even more shocking was video footage of workers for Primark's suppliers in Indonesia sitting down eating their lunch and smiling and waving at the camera, rather than weeping and howling as their fingers break off at the end of a 32 hour shift sewing on buttons.A BBC investigation also discovered that employees in UK factories are actually... more

A BBC investigation pins Primark to a clothing factory where workers work 12-hour days, 7 days per week for £3.50 an hour. The aupplier TNS Knitwear also allegedly employs illegal workers at its Manchester factory. This isn't the first time the hugely successful high street store has been linked to sweatshop conditions. But this time it's right here in the UK. Not that that makes it any worse. But how can a place that makes £233 million in profit be allowed to keep operations open when this is what it takes to make their clothes?A BBC investigation pins Primark to a clothing factory where workers work 12-hour... more

An anti-poverty charity, War on Want, has uncovered that UK highstreet fashion chain Primark are paying its workers in Bangladesh as little as 7p an hour and is ignoring the 70% inflationary rise in basic living costs in the region over the last two years.
While the workers are now estimated as needing the equivalent of £44.82 a month to feed their families and pay for clean water, shelter, clothes, education, health care and transport, the charity says that the average Primark worker earned just £19.16 a month. Other chains accused of similar abuses include the clothing lines for Asda and Tesco.
War on Want is currently campaigning for the UK government to enforce regulations on minimum wages that must be paid by these companies, and for them to take account of infaltion. An anti-poverty charity, War on Want, has uncovered that UK highstreet fashion chain... more

Ministers are being pressed by activists to act after the BBC uncovered the fact that child labour is used to produce clothing for Primark by large contract holders in India.
Primark's excuse is that the firms they had contracted to do the work had subcontracted smaller firms to do work for them, and it is here where children entered into Primarks workforce.
"Under no circumstances would Primark ever knowingly permit such activities" they said, but is this a good enough excuse for a company as large as Primark?
If the price is too good to be true, surely this is testament to the fact that it probably is.
