On Russia Today TV’s The Big Picture Thursday, progressive radio host Thom Hartmann confronted Family Research Institute chairman Dr. Paul Cameron and asked him an unusually pointed question: “Does it concern you that many of your colleagues in the anti-gay movement may actually be closeted gays?”
“Um, no,” Cameron replied. “Very few of them are homosexually interested. First of all, um… Most people are not interested in homosexuality. There’s not at all. A few homosexuals like to say — and they’ve been saying this now for at least the last seven years — almost everybody is bisexual, maybe some homosexual…”
“I’ve never heard anybody say that,” Hartmann replied.
Cameron went on to claim that biologist Alfred Kinsey, whose groundbreaking research pioneered the study of human sexuality, “was gay” and “pushed that idea,” making his scientific findings somehow less valid. “Most of the homosexual leadership… have pushed that idea,” he added. “But it’s not true!”
Cameron didn’t provide any source or research to support his claim, so interested viewers may just have to take his word for it.
But a wise observer may wish to note that a recently published study by the University of Rochester, the University of Essex, England, and the University of California in Santa Barbara, found that homophobia “is more pronounced in individuals with an unacknowledged attraction to the same sex and who grew up with authoritarian parents who forbade such desires.”
“Individuals who identify as straight but in psychological tests show a strong attraction to the same sex may be threatened by gays and lesbians because homosexuals remind them of similar tendencies within themselves,” the study’s lead author, Netta Weinstein, explained.
And that’s what Hartmann keyed into.
“Who’s going to sit around all day long and think, ‘Oh my God, there’s gays out there! There’s gays out there! We can’t let them get married!’ And just, you know, commit their lives to stopping gay [marriage],” Hartmann said. “I don’t think about it that much. It seems to me that if somebody’s really obsessed with it, maybe we should wonder.”
“Well, you can wonder about it all you want,” Cameron replied.

Maverick Couch, a gay 16-year-old high school student in southwest Ohio, is suing his school district after the principal prohibited him from wearing a T-shirt declaring "Jesus Is Not a Homophobe."
Couch has been arguing with Waynesville High School since last April, when principal Randy Gebhardt first told Couch to turn his shirt inside out. Couch was observing Gay Lesbian & Straight Education Network's National Day of Silence, an annual event across the country when students spend a day in silence to call attention to bullying and harassment of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender teens in schools.
The shirt was "sexual in nature and therefore indecent and inappropriate in a school setting," claimed a lawyer for the school district in a Feb. 24 letter to a lawyer for Couch.
Lambda Legal, a national organization advocating for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people, filed suit on Tuesday against Gebhardt and Waynesville school district on Couch's behalf. Lambda also filed a motion asking for temporary restraining order so that Couch could wear the shirt on an upcoming National Day of Silence.Maverick Couch, a gay 16-year-old high school student in southwest Ohio, is suing his... more

In plea deal, youth gets 21 years for killing gay teen
Brandon McInerney avoids a retrial by pleading guilty to shooting Larry King. The jury deadlocked in the first trial, with some saying prosecutors were being too harsh in trying him as an adult.

.
A teenager who fatally shot a gay classmate in the back of the head during an Oxnard middle school computer lab will spend 21 years in prison under a plea deal reached Monday, closing the books on a case that drew international headlines and ignited debate on how schools should handle sexual identity issues.
Brandon McInerney, who was 14 when he pulled a gun out of his backpack and shot Larry King two times at point-blank range, will be kept behind bars until he is 38 under the terms of the deal struck by Ventura County prosecutors.
In an unusual arrangement, the 17-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree and voluntary manslaughter. In return, prosecutors agreed not to go forward with a second trial, which could have resulted in a life sentence.
The family of the victim, Larry King, broke their silence on the case outside court Monday, saying that they supported the sentence but believed school officials hold deep responsibility for what happened.
"Larry had a complicated life, but he did not deserve to be murdered," said the youth's father, Greg King.
McInerney's first trial ended in a hung jury in early September, with jurors torn between murder and manslaughter. Some jurors said they believed the district attorney's office was being overly harsh in trying McInerney as an adult and several showed up Monday wearing "Save Brandon" bracelets.
Greg King said he was satisfied by the deal reached with his son's killer, given the "unpredictability of juries."
"Twenty-one years is a long time" King said. "At the end of the day, this is something we can live with."
McInerney shot King in a school computer lab at E.O Green Junior High in Oxnard in February 2008, after days of conflict between the boys. Students and teachers at the trial testified that King had been dressing in women's accessories and wearing makeup, and was flirting aggressively with male students on campus who did not want the attention.
School administrators sent a memo advising teachers to give King his space, but to report safety problems. Teachers at the trial testified that when they tried to report growing tensions between King and several boys, school leaders shunned them.
The victim's mother, Dawn King, revealed for the first time Monday that she had contacted school officials four days before the shooting in an effort to solicit their cooperation in toning down her son's behavior. The boy had been taken from the Kings' home two months earlier by authorities because of problems at home.
She said she was told that her son had a civil right to explore his sexual identity.
"I knew, gut instinct, that something serious was going to happen," she said. "They should have contained him, contained his behavior."
Prosecutors said the first trial showed that the case was too emotional to take to trial a second time.
"The first jury was unable to keep their emotions out of it," Ventura County Chief Deputy Dist. Atty. Mike Frawley said. "This really tugged powerfully at people's hearts,"
During the first trial, prosecutors portrayed McInerney as a budding white supremacist who hated homosexuals and was enraged by King's sexuality and aggressive flirtations. Jurors rejected that contention and the hate crime allegation was dropped when prosecutors announced last month that they would retry McInerney.
Defense lawyers argued that McInerney was the product of a violent and dysfunctional home and had reached an emotional breaking point in response to King's advances. At Monday's hearing, McInenery's family left the courtroom without comment after the plea agreement was announced.
McInerney's mother, Kendra, sobbed loudly as her son, clad in a dark blue jail jumpsuit, answered "guilty" to the two charges — one of the few times he has spoken in the courtroom.
Scott Wippert and Robyn Bramson said their client is mentally preparing himself for state prison. He will be transferred to a state facility in January, when he turns 18. Though he will spend many years behind bars, Brandon McInerney is grateful that he will one day be free, his attorney said.
"Now he has a date he can circle on his calendar," Wippert said.
After the first trial, gay-rights advocates were largely silent. After Monday's announcement, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, which offers on-campus support for gay and lesbian students, said the plea bargain shows McInerney is being held accountable for his actions.
Bramson said she hopes the case has raised awareness that parents and school administrators need to be involved and aware of what is happening with their children at school. In this case, all of the adults failed, she said.
"This was so preventable and it shouldn't ever happen again," she said.

(CBS) Do gay doctors pose a threat to hospitalized kids? Linda Harvey apparently thinks so. On a recent broadcast, the conservative Christian radio host urged parents to "think long and hard" about whether kids should be cared for by hospital workers who "proclaim a homosexual lifestyle."
PICTURES - OK to be gay? Regional acceptance of same sex relations
To make her point, Harvey offered isteners a scenario: "Let's say your 11-year-old has broken her leg rather badly and needs to be in the hospital a few days. Which would you prefer - a nurse who's proud of her lesbianism, who has rainbow identifiers on her work clothing, or a nurse who does not?"
Just who is Linda Harvey? She's a Columbus, Ohio-based former executive of Ohio State University Hospitals and the founder of a "Christian pro-family organization" called Mission:America, according to the organization's website.
On the Oct. 18 broadcast, Harvey acknowledged that gay health-care workers can be competent and might be the best bet in a medical emergency. But she urged parents to pick a pediatrician very carefully. In addition, she said parents should consider writing a letter to the pediatrician saying that if a child must be hospitalized, then he/she will not be treated by gay workers.
"For routine in-hospital care where contact with your child would be required," she continued, "your values should be respected."
But the values expressed in Harvey's comments didn't get a lot of respect from some medical experts.
"Sexual orientation, gender identity and other personal characteristics do not determine a healthcare provider's competence," Dr. Desi Bailey, president of the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association, told CBS News in an email. She cited a 2005 Gallup poll that found that 78% of Americans believe lesbians and gay men should be hired as doctors.
As for rainbow pins, Dr. Bailey said they help foster a welcoming environment for healthcare workers, adding, "A welcoming environment improves the quality of healthcare for all patients."
What does the medical establishment have to say?
"The American Medical Association has zero tolerance for discrimination in any form," the association's president, Dr. Peter W. Carmel, told CBS News in an email. "Respecting the diversity of patients and the physicians who care for them is a fundamental value of the medical profession."(CBS) Do gay doctors pose a threat to hospitalized kids? "WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum doubled down on his recent comments opposing allowing gay soldiers to serve in the U.S. military, invoking the image of soldiers showering together to explain his support for reinstating the discriminatory "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
"The problem is that sexual activity with people who you are in close quarters with who happen to be of the same sex is different than being open about your sexuality," Santorum said on "Fox News Sunday."
Fox host Chris Wallace pushed back, asking Santorum if he was suggesting gay soldiers would "go after" their colleagues.
They're in close quarters, they live with people, they obviously shower with people," Santorum said, saying the presence of gay soldiers could have an adverse "effect on retention and recruitment."

This is an interview of a "Moderate" Muslim in Washington, D.C. during a Muslim function called "Muslim Day" where Muslims are allowed to pray on the White House lawns.
Many gay and lesbian activists are not aware that under Islamic Sharia Law Muslims are OK with killing or imprison homosexuals. Murdering homosexuals is done by several Muslim countries. The more Muslim the country is, the more likely that the death penalty for a homosexual is a reality. So many stars like Elton John, Ellen DeGeneres, Adam Lambert, Suze Orman, Rosie O'Donnell, Johnny Mathis, K.D. Lang, Boy George, George Michael, Ricky Martin, David Geffen, including the millions of homosexuals around the world would be imprisoned or facing murder. It would not be considered a hate crime in the Middle East to kill a gay person.
Many people in the west do not know the true nature of Islam and believe Sharia Law is not vile. Some Liberal and Leftists stick up for Islam without knowing anything about it, which includes murdering and harassing gays and lesbians.

The day of reckoning was set in 2002. Randy Roberts Potts stood in the kitchen as everything was waking up. He finally felt a spreading definition, a pulling value as though he had remembered what he needed for the first time in all his 27 years on mortal earth.
“I’m gay. I’m gay. I’m gay,” he realized.
Ten years later, Potts sits in front of an emotional crowd — many of them Oral Roberts University alumni — inside the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center’s Liberty Education Forum to speak about his perspective on faith and sexuality. He shakes his head, smiles a honeydew grin that belies memories big enough to break through stained-glass windows, and then begins sharing them. Potts continues to measure his former self — the closeted grandchild of televangelist Oral Roberts — against the one we see on stage: A proud, openly gay man.
“It was a very slow process,” he told the crowd. “It took a lot of years of therapy and learning to be OK with myself on a lot of levels, not just sexually.”
Now Potts wants to share his story of growing up on the Roberts compound under the banner of evangelical royalty, coming out, and his personal faith journey with audiences throughout the United States. This weekend he served as grand marshal for the AIDS Walk in Oklahoma, returning to the home state of his grandfather’s spiritual kingdom.
Randy’s grandfather, Oral Roberts, remained one of the most well-known and controversial leaders inside the American Pentecostal movement until his death in December 2009.
“I was not close to my grandfather, even though my family lived about 20 yards away on the Roberts compound in Tulsa,” he said.
Oral Roberts pioneered TV evangelism, conducted more than 300 crusades on six continents, and founded Oral Roberts University and the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association —a holy empire that was worth more than half-a-billion-dollars. He would also achieve worldwide notoriety after he claimed that God “would take him home” unless his followers raised $8 million in cash.
“I was 12 years old then, and, in the world I was living in, this wasn’t as unusual as you might expect,” Potts said. “There was a rhyme and reason to everything in God’s world. If you had a question, the Bible always had the answer.”
In 1982, uncle Ronnie — heir to the Oral Roberts throne — committed suicide six months after he came out to Troy Perry, founder of the first gay-friendly congregation in Los Angeles.
“Growing up, I didn’t know my uncle was gay, but I always wanted to be like him,” Potts said. “I feel like my life has mirrored his. Every time my mother mentioned him I noted two things: one, that she had loved him more than she had ever loved anybody else; and two, that the memory of his [gay] path brought more pain to her than any other memory. The day of reckoning was set in 2002.
