The Guardian describes the Chevening country house as "one of the three country homes at the disposal of the government", since the houses were avalible to previous cabinet members from previous governments. Though the article points out, Clegg and Hague are set to share the 115 room building, despite the differences on EU policy.
"David Cameron will use Chequers, the country residence that has been used by prime ministers since Lloyd George. And George Osborne will get the keys to Dorneywood, the residence which is normally allocated to the chancellor but which was used by John Prescott when he was deputy prime minister because Gordon Brown did not want to go there himself."-The Guardian.
A quote from Downing Street, says the country houses are used for key meetings and hosting international leaders "The residences are not owned by the government but held in trust,".
I recall the one party (think it was the Liberal Democrats) did mention country houses used by the government should be available for community projects, though can't find the quote. However, it'll be interesting to see if any non government events will now be held at the country houses during the coalition government. The Guardian describes the Chevening country house as "one of the three country... more

It was not surprising when news of the ID cards were to be scrapped by the new Coalition Government, because they were both vocal against it. However, a report from the BBC states the plans for a third runway at London Heathrow are now scrapped.
There were a number of campaigns against the runway, resulting in camp-sites and gate crashing events, it's reported the campaign organisers are delighted by the plans stopping.
"The decision to cancel the plans came in a joint Conservative-Liberal Democrat policy agreement. The new government said it would also refuse any additional runways at Gatwick and Stansted airports."-BBC
BAA says it will work with the new Government 'to ensure that airport policy provides the strong international trading', so I'm guessing the campaigners against the third runway will still be lobbying along with BAA over this issue. It was not surprising when news of the ID cards were to be scrapped by the new... more

If you voted for the Liberal Democrats (better if they won the seat) where do you want the vote to go?
The phone calls between the Liberal Democrats and the other parties started today, so far (as typed) Nick Clegg talked to David Cameron over the phone. It's reported a second call is planned between Clegg and Cameron. BBC journalists are speculating what the second phone call means on coalition updates, while saying the Labour HQ remains optimistic (very likely to get phone call talks too). Face to Face talks also planned, early news says it's not going to feature the party leaders.
Earlier all three party leaders set where they stand on negotiations, full information in link.
However, many are expecting Nick Clegg will meet with the new Lib Dem MPs before announcing any kind of decision. The smaller parties are also being included in talks to back parties.

KABUL, Afghanistan — American, Afghan and British troops occupied crucial positions across the Taliban stronghold of Marja on Saturday, encountering only sporadic fighting as they began the long and possibly bloody ordeal of house-to-house searches.
American Marines exchanged gunfire with Taliban insurgents throughout the day, and discovered several homemade bombs and other weapons. One American serviceman was reported killed in Marja on Saturday, and a British servicemen as well, officials said in Kabul. Three American soldiers were killed in neighboring Kandahar Province when the vehicle they were riding in struck a large explosive buried in the road.
American commanders said Saturday that the 6,000 American, Afghan and British troops who moved into the area earlier in the day had achieved every objective they had set for themselves. That included advancing into the city itself, seizing intersections, government buildings and one of the city’s two main bazaars in the center of town.
Some military units held meetings with local Afghans, to reassure them and to ask for help in finding Taliban fighters and hidden bombs.
Mohammed Dawood Ahmadi, a spokesman for Helmand Province’s governor, said Afghan and NATO forces had set up 11 posts across Marja and two in the neighboring town of Nad Ali. “We now occupy all the strategic points in the area,” he said.
The invasion of Marja is the largest military operation of its kind since the American-backed war began eight years ago. The area, about 77 square miles of farmland, villages and irrigation canals, is believed to be the largest Taliban sanctuary inside Afghanistan.
In the prelude to the attack, Afghan and Americans commanders said that the area contained hundreds of Taliban fighters, several hundred homemade bombs and a number of opium factories that the insurgents use to finance their operations.
On the first full day of operations, much of the expected Taliban resistance failed to materialize. Afghan and NATO troops discovered some bombs, narcotics and weapons caches, but the fighting itself was relatively desultory. There was certainly none of the eyeball-to-eyeball fighting that typified the battle for Falluja in Iraq in 2004, to which the invasion of Marja had been compared.

The ministers of the Northern League have sparked a mini-storm in Berlusconi's government calling for the withdrawal of Italian troops from international missions, starting with Afghanistan. Other ministers have said that the missions are "our business card to the world" and that the commitment in Afghanistan is essential. An idea shared by the temporary leader of the PD, the opposition democratic party: "The italian boys in Afghanistan must finish the job with a government and a parliament compact behind them." A sentence that could have been said by Cheney. The ministers of the Northern League have sparked a mini-storm in Berlusconi's... more

A Liberal-NDP coalition will not stop the Harper tax cuts for corporations.
The Liberals, like the Conservatives, see corporate tax cuts as an efficient way to stimulate investment and create jobs. The NDP say they do nothing to help companies who already pay no tax because they are losing money and just reward oil companies and banks, which are already making handsome profits.

Conservatives were fighting a desperate public relations war trying to convince Canadians that a government with Stephane Dion as prime minister would have little legitimacy. Conservative sympathizers were organizing cross-country, anti-coalition protests and Canwest News Service has learned that the Conservative party has put down a deposit on a campaign plane and buses, in the hope that Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean will call another general election next week rather than ask the Liberals to form a government.Conservatives were fighting a desperate public relations war trying to convince... more

Women's Rights In Afhanistan: in the face of Politics, Progress, and Western Presence
Pt 3/6
http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/262203
Homemakers Magazine editor in chief Kathy Ullyott speaks with reporter Stephen Dohnberg about the struggle of women and what she witnessed during her visit to Kabul, Afghanistan The conversation reveals what a complex situation the Western presence in Afghanistan is by any measure.
Invited by C.A.R.E. Canada, in May Kathy Ullyott, made her way to the city of Kabul for a week-long look at the work and commitment of an NGO such as C.A.R.E., who have been an early presence since 1996, assisting widows with food aid. Even an issue of basic aid is fraught with concerns that span the range of issues from western presence to cultural mores. Although we initially planned to discuss the ascent of women’s rights in Afghanistan, the intersection of so many other disparate concerns clearly illustrates that no single issue will resolve itself independent of others.Women's Rights In Afhanistan: in the face of Politics, Progress, and Western... more
