On this Wednesday's Current Music Presents: Embedded, we'll have a very special repeat guest in the form of Fleet Foxes. (They're appearing in a segment called Impromptu, part of our longstanding partnership with the French blog La Blogotheque, which shoots bands acoustically and spontaneously across the world.)
Fleet Foxes' appearance on our first Take-Away Show is among our most popular pieces of music programming ever. (Seriously, I probably answered a dozen emails a week with some variation on, "Help, I just saw some awesome band on Current, they were singing in a gym or something?")
Watch it on current.com:
Here's Chryde talking more about how he and the team at Blogotheque get such great performances:
Be sure to tune into Embedded on Wednesday, October 28 at 11/10c to see Fleet Foxes, plus Death Cab For Cutie's Nick Harmer and featured artist Ben Harper.

A parade of guest stars Current TV hosts have been asked to count down their favorite content from the network, and Sergio Cilli (of the White Hot Top 5) named several of Current Music's finest, including:
The Dodos Blogotheque (Extended Version)
Behind The Shins
Flaming Lips Santa Claus
Fleet Foxes - Sun Giant + White Winter Hymnal - La Blogotheque Take Away Show
Personally I'm fond of Sergio's list of Crappy Alternative videos, because no matter how many of these bands may be my not-so-guilty pleasures (except Boys Like Girls, they just suck), his punchlines are right on.
Thanks Serg!

Ben Harper has built one of the largest and most loyal followings in the world.
We get Embedded for a day in Ben's life as he introduces us to Relentless7, his new band, and takes us inside his family's music store to school us on his roots.
Then Ben goes into producer mode in the studio with his Aussie protégé hand-picked by the late Heath Ledger, and shows us there's no detail too small to obsess over when overseeing a fashion line.
Plus, Death Cab For Cutie bassist Nick Harmer tweaks our world perspective with tilt-shift photography in this Tour Stop. And Fleet Foxes return to Current TV, sneaking into an abandoned wing of of the Grand Palais in Paris for an amazing acoustic performance of "Blue Ridge Mountains."
Current Music Presents: Embedded is a six part special that puts you on the ground and behind the scenes with unrivaled access to your favorite musicians. We've traveled the world, going beyond performances to bring you the most intimate and unfiltered moments in artists' lives. When others stop the cameras, we capture the real story of today's top musicians.

After their successful debut album Fleet Foxes’ singer Robin Pecknold immediately made it clear that he dislikes the corporate greed that surrounds the major record labels. “Fleet Foxes will never, ever, under no circumstances, from now until the world chokes on gas fumes, sign to a major label,” Pecknold wrote in a blog post after the rumor spread that they’ve signed up with a major record label.
According to Pecknold the major labels seem to be anti-music. What really helped him and other bands to shape their sound and spark their creativity is file-sharing. “That was how I was exposed to almost all of the music that I love to this day, and still that’s the easiest way to find really obscure stuff,” he told the BBC.
“I’ve discovered so much music through that medium. That will be true of any artist my age, absolutely,” Pecknold added. He explained that he is not the only musician to have benefited from ’stealing’ music, as the major labels like to call it. Having access to an unlimited library of music only makes a musician better.
Indeed, many BitTorrent trackers dedicated to music are populated by thousands of artists, who share their own work and that of others. Most famously, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor was a proud member of the now defunct OiNK tracker.
Pecknold is no different, and he recalls the finesse of his own music changing for the better after his dad brought home a modem to connect the family to the Internet - a candy store for the modern age musician. And if the fans want to share their latest album he’s totally fine with that.
“I’ve downloaded hundreds and hundreds of records - why would I care if somebody downloads ours? That’s such a petty thing to care about. I mean, how much money does one person need? I think it’s disgusting when people complain about that, personally,” he admitted.
The labels have a different view on the piracy issue of course, claiming that they lose billions of dollars because of it. Most people know by now that this is far from the truth. However, after chasing down music fans in court they are now starting to lose respect among musicians.
While they still might be able to successfully market a kid star here and there, most artists don’t really need a label to distribute music in the digital age. BitTorrent does that just fine, right Robin? After their successful debut album Fleet Foxes’ singer Robin Pecknold... more

US indie rock group Fleet Foxes won the Vinyl Art Prize for Best Album Cover. The self-titled album features the 1559 painting 'Netherlandish Proverbs', by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The painting overflows with literal renditions of many of the Dutch proverbs of the day. Some proverbs are still in common use around the world, while others might scare up a blank look or a bar fight. [Source]
Wikipedia has a full listing of the Netherlandish proverbial expressions featured in the painting and their meaning, but a wooden shoe box full of proverbs and their meanings include:
'To fall from the ox onto the ass' translates to 'fall on hard times.'
'They both shit through the same hole' translates to 'they are in agreement.'
'The sow pulls the bung' translates to 'negligence will be rewarded with disaster.'
'The herring does not fry here' translates to "things do not go according to plan."
'To stick out the broom' translates to 'have fun while the master is away.'
'He who eats fire, shits sparks' translates to 'do not be surprised at the outcome if you attempt a dangerous venture.'US indie rock group Fleet Foxes won the Vinyl Art Prize for Best Album Cover. The... more
