Leave the Olympics alone. Think of the sacrifices from all of the athletes, their families and supporters of years of time and money. The Olympics should be neutral and non-political. This is the only global event where all nations can participate in a peaceful event. We need these Games to be left alone and be sacred. Separate from all politics!Leave the Olympics alone. Despite up to the nanosecond text blasts--Amira Diamond and Melinda Kramer couldn't find any of the re-routed, police blockaded, Olympic torches...but we did wind up with one of the Olympic Torch Bearers, Majora Carter (www.greenforall.org), after yesterday's San Francisco protest against China's occupation of Tibet.
We're making the moral of stories these days--you can take the torch from the torch bearer's hand, but the torch of her heart...now that's another story. The passion and peace of the people LIVE.
Special thanks to the evolutionary impulse that drives thousands of people to the street to be peaceful in the face of violence, Leah Lamb, Lora O'Connor, Marianne Manilov, and www.cyphertown.org

This is a short pod I just finished on the events that took place in San Francisco on April 9, 2008. This pod revolves around the protests which seemingly shut down the Embarcadero and the torch's route/ending ceremony. Enjoy and please give it the greenlight if you like it!

Majora Carter was removed from the San Francisco leg of the torch relay when she attempted to unfurl a Tibetan flag from her sleeve. She claims her 1st Amendment right as the basis for her actions although IOC charter clearly states that "No kind of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda is permitted in any Olympic sites, venues or other areas."
Obviously she's a passionate woman who just wants her opinion heard. Although being an Olympic event, it was probably not of good standing for her to show her political views during such an event.
There are other news articles on the web citing this incident as well.Majora Carter was removed from the San Francisco leg of the torch relay when she... more

After huge crowds gathered along the planned route, it was changed kilometers away bringing both the protesters and supporters together in anger over such a change. San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom did say that the route was expected to make a few changes even up to the last minute. The closing ceremony was canceled as the torch was sent to the airport for an alternate ceremony there.

"The Official Torch Relay for the Beijing Games will start in Athens Greece in late March. It will then make its way to London and Paris and arrive in San Francisco, its only U.S. stop, on April 9, 2008.
The Save Darfur Coalition and the San Francisco Bay Area Darfur Coalition invite activists from around the U.S. to join us in San Francisco to help highlight the role that China must play to end the genocide in Darfur."
There is a video, but it seems to not be compatible with current... check it out here though:
