A boy of 15 punched and kicked a father-of-three to death - then filmed himself on his mobile phone boasting: 'Eyes of a killer'.
Andrew Smith and his 18-year-old friend Jason Bolton attacked Asaf Mahmood Ahmed without provocation as he walked to a shop, repeatedly stamping and jumping on his head. He died from an asthma attack triggered by the beating.
Smith, who is now 16, then went home and used his mobile phone to make a seven-second video of his face as he boasted: 'Eyes of a killer'.
The images were shown to a jury at Manchester Crown Court, where Smith and Bolton have now been convicted of Mr Ahmed's murder.
Seconds before the beating of Mr Ahmed, the pair had attacked another man in a nearby street, in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
Smith was later arrested at his home and police found the mobile phone, which revealed that an hour after the attack he had filmed his chilling boast.
After the verdict, Mr Ahmed's family said in a statement: 'Asaf was a quiet, private man who wouldn't harm anyone. He was a good son, brother, husband and father to his three children.'
Smith and Bolton had been drinking before they went looking for trouble, just before Christmas last year.
They picked on one man, but he was too strong and escaped unhurt. Moments later they spotted 28-year-old Mr Ahmed - 5ft 5inches tall and seven stone and attacked him on steps behind the Derby Ward Labour Club.
A teenage girl who lived nearby saw the killers kicking and stamping on his head.
'It went on for two or three minutes and then the taller one jumped with both feet on the victim's head seven or eight times,' said prosecutor Brian Cummings QC.
They ran off and Mr Ahmed tried to use his asthma inhaler but had a severe attack and died.
Mr Cummings told the jury at the start of the trial that the question of a racial motive would 'inevitably arise' during the case.
But he said it was the Crown's belief that the probable motive was to inflict random violence.
Smith and Bolton will be sentenced at a later date after reports have been prepared by the probation service.A boy of 15 punched and kicked a father-of-three to death - then filmed himself on his... more

Ryan Herbert who participated in the quite frankly disgusting murder of Sophie Lancaster just because she was a goth (and left her boyfriend Robert Maltby to suffer from permanent memory loss/brain damage and constant nightmares) has had his sentenced reduced by 9 months.
The 4 other youths have had their appeals rejected.
In my opinion, note this is MY opinion, if anything these thugs should be given longer sentences not shorter ones. What they did was disgusting and quite frankly inhuman. I think they have gone far beyond normality and there must be an insanely slim chance of reform for someone who is willing to kick and stomp on someone until they die and then laugh about it.

Fresh from the shocking recent revelation that the brother of former England footballer Stuart Pearce is an active member of the British National Party, there is worrying news that the party can now boast another relative of a national treasure within its unseemly ranks.
To the noise of collective jaw-dropping among EastEnders fans everywhere, it transpires Angela Reid, the youngest daughter of the late but much-loved stand-up Mike Reid, was due to stand on behalf of the BNP as a candidate at next month's council by-election in Braintree, Essex. The election has come up after the Conservative councillor Bill Rose recently decided to stand down.
Reid was apparently all set to contest the seat until the weekend, when I'm told she decided to withdraw from the race for "personal reasons".
"She would have been an excellent candidate for us and it's a terrible shame that she won't be running this time but we've got plenty of candidates for the future elsewhere," says a BNP spokesman, hastily adding that her U-turn had nothing to do with any political misgivings she may be feeling.
"Not at all, she is 100 per cent behind the party," he insisted. "Her withdrawal is purely personal.
"In fact, she is one of our loyalist members and strongest supporters."
For all their words of support, party activists must secretly be seething.
Since Reid's withdrawal has occurred after the deadline for candidate applications, the party will now not be able to run a replacement.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A federal appeals court panel has ruled in favor of a Tennessee high school that banned students from wearing clothing with the Confederate battle flag after several racial incidents.
Students Derek Barr, Chris White and Roger Craig White claimed in a lawsuit that their free speech rights were violated by the 2005 ban on the Confederate symbol at William BloFeunt High School in Maryville.
School officials said their ban came after racial tension that included a fight, a civil rights complaint and graffiti of a Confederate flag, a racial slur and a noose.
In its opinion filed Wednesday in Cincinnati, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that school officials had a right to ban the flag because they could "reasonably forecast" that it would disrupt education.

"You don't want people who are violent carrying firearms," said Troy Eid, U.S. Attorney for Colorado and a leader in the expanded crime-fighting effort.-
To develop more cases, Pueblo police a few months ago set up a joint operation with agents of the principal federal gun law enforcement agency, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The police department dedicated two officers and the ATF assigned two agents to work as a team at police headquarters, Deputy Police Chief John Ercul said. The agents previously worked at the bureau's Colorado Springs office. Ercul said the arrangement is an asset in the department's crime-fighting cabinet.

All she did was what any good citizen might do - ask two young men on a railway platform to stop smoking.
But commuter Linda Buchanan almost paid with her life when the thugs shoved her onto the tracks.
As fellow passengers stared in horror Mrs Buchanan, a management consultant, landed just inches from a 750-volt live rail, snapping her left wrist and leaving her perilously close to being run over by a train.
Last night the badly shaken mother-of-three told how she felt lucky to be alive.
The shocking incident at Farningham Road Station, near Swanley in Kent, again highlights what ordinary people risk by confronting thugs. All she did was what any good citizen might do - ask two young men on a railway... more

At least Japan has had the courage to refuse them entry for the Japanese leg of the Olympic Torch carrying ritual.
