Alex Jones addresses the real threat of the future corporate ownership of the internet. Among many negative results some outcomes are, this would mean not only costly membership for everything, but also that you would no longer have your own domain. Everything will be under a sub domain. Like with Myspace, everything will be regulated and heavily controlled.
I know there is a bit of info on current about this. But I think this issue is so important especially for groups like current.

The first of the latest round of exhibits proving that the Karl Rove playbook has become the MSM's bible was offered into evidence during last week's ABC debate. The uproar that followed made it seem as if this kind of behavior was an aberration but, in fact, this has been going on for years -- only in a less concentrated form.
Next came a double-whammy in Sunday's New York Times. First up was David Barstow's epic revelation of the unseemly complicity between the Pentagon and the mainstream media in delivering the Bush administration's talking points on Iraq via "a kind of Trojan media horse" -- Pentagon-approved, prepped, and financially-enriched "military analysts" dutifully parroting the Bush party line, with nary a raised eyebrow from the TV stations and newspapers offering these highly-decorated sock puppets (link to Porter post) their prestigious platforms.
It was -- and, indeed, continues to be -- a propagandists' field day. And while the moral bankruptcy of the "military analysts" -- many of whom now admit to promoting "facts" they knew to be untrue -- is astounding, it is more than matched by the bankrupt behavior of the media mavens who enabled the Pentagon disinformation campaign. Barstow paints a picture of TV and newspaper execs turning a blind eye to the conflicts of interest their analysts were drowning in. And now they are going mute: many of the news organizations Barstow contacted for his story -- including CBS, Fox, and NBC -- refused to comment, while others offered up half-hearted mea culpas. "We did not ask ... the follow up questions we should have," said CNN.

After The ABC News Debacle: How To Change Media - Why Making Media The Issue Is Crucial For Saving Democracy
by Danny Schechter
That Pope expressed several wishes calling for a greater sense of social responsibility in the media, and for the media, too, saying:
"Promote justice and solidarity according to an organic and correct vision of human development by reporting events accurately and truthfully, analyzing situations and problems completely, and providing a forum for different opinions. An authentically ethical approach to using the powerful communication media must be situated within the context of a mature exercise of freedom and responsibility, founded upon the supreme criteria of truth and justice."
He also spoke about media ownership:
"I would like to recall our attention to the subject of media access, and of co-responsible participation in their administration. If the communications media are a good destined for all humanity, then ever-new means must be found - including recourse to opportune legislative measures - to make possible a true participation in their management by all. The culture of co-responsibility must be nurtured."
Unlike other papal passions, however, implementing this wish cannot rely on faith alone-it will take practical steps.

Thomas Jefferson once said, “Our citizens may be deceived for a while, and have been deceived; but as long as the presses can be protected, we may trust to them for light.” For the past eight years, George W. Bush has been breaking both national and international laws with reckless abandon and lying repeatedly to Congress and the American people. He has started two ill-advised wars and authorized the torture of detainees from those wars. He has admitted to illegally spying on his own citizens. He has vetoed several pieces of legislation designed to improve the lives of low- and middle-class Americans, calling them fiscally irresponsible. Yet, he’s spending at least $12 billion per month on the illegal, no-win war in Iraq and is borrowing money from other nations to do so. In spite of all this, there is not much light being shone on this administration from the mainstream media.
There’s always a “honeymoon” period for a newly elected president, but President Bush’s honeymoon has gone on for eight years. The last journalist I remember challenging Bush on anything substantive was veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas. During a televised press conference, she had a heated discussion with President Bush about the war in Iraq. His irritation at her was palpable. It was almost as if she had no business challenging him. For the most part, however, the mainstream media uses ‘big picture’ journalism when covering the Bush administration. This approach allows our government to do exactly as it pleases because nobody is paying attention to the details. This is what President Bush and his minions are counting on.
