Taco trucks and other mobile eateries have been gaining popularity in mainstream culture, but for many Latinos, these traveling kitchens have been a staple go-to for fast, cheap and authentic eats. And, what better way to enjoy the summer sunshine than sneaking out for a mid-day taco tasting?
We checked out five mobile eateries across the country that are doing more than their share to dispel the “roach coach” mentality long attached to food truck vendors by selling quality bites that adhere to strict health department standards.

A notable taco truck in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles was attacked Friday night. Assailants threw Molotov cocktails at Taco Zone on Alvarado. The motive remains a mystery. It could be rival taqueros, gangs, or a hate crime. Nobody was hurt in the attack, but the truck was damaged.
The truck, was frequented by hipsters and a subsequent benefit show, with indie rockers The Mae Shi is planned for this Friday.
his isn't funny, because that is a fine taco truck. But it's one of those like so unexpected that's funny things.

Yesterday Foodspotting hosted gourmet food trucks in front of my hotel. I wish I had an iPhone so I could use their app, because one of my hobbies is taking pictures of food that I have eaten.
I'd seen version of these trucks in Los Angeles, but I prefer the Austin ones because they have better puns in their title. The fusion Korean taco tuck is called "TaKorea."
It reminded me of the time that Ben Hoffman took a spin on LA's Korean twittering taco truck, Kogi.
In front of the convention center, I sampled a food concept that I'd never heard of. Get this: a bacon-infused waffle cone filled with cole slaw and chicken fingers and marinated celery.
Was it good? Not really. Was it still pretty fun? Yep.

Supposedly Kogi is the originator of the hip and cool LA food truck and, as some have told me, has the best food of all the taco trucks. My plan was to find trucks that had just rolled out, are newly popular, or ones that I know nothing about and see if Kogi would hold up against the rest.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Los Angeles County supervisors passed a law on Tuesday stating that LA taco trucks can stay parked in one spot for no more than one hour.
The law is in response to the complaints of some merchants that taco trucks cut into their profits. Because taco trucks cost less money to run, they can sell tacos for a better price. One taco truck owner says, "They can try to move us, but we're not going to go. What are they going to do, take us all to jail?"
This could put a stop to one of the most culturally significant aspects of LA. To help save the taco trucks go to http://www.saveourtacotrucks.org - picture is from that website.
