Do you love that alliteration? Half of the emergency involved in my writing this post at 12:11am was from sheer excitement over the title.
The other half? Displaying the muted-tones and “well-tailored” feel of Miz Mooz‘s new boot offerings for the fall season (yes, yes, a long ways away, but we couldn’t resist fawning over the copious leather & neutral-toned shoes ASAP). We’re pretty huge fans of Miz Mooz here (Jen’s oxfords, which you all adore, are proudly Miz Mooz). (I’m using a lot of parentheses.) (I’m okay with this.)
It will surprise approximately no one [who has read this blog for any extended period of time] that the last boots are my favorite. Jen hasn’t seen these yet, but my guess is that she’ll love the heeled saddle shoes most. She is an oxford princess.
The rest – I don’t really care for them so much – do you? I’m just a little bored with the lattice look and the lace-up things. I had a pair of shoes like that in high school (that was *ahem* a long time ago). Well, they weren’t mine, they were my little sister’s (sorry, Aleah), but they definitely helped me ride the line between “grunge” and “goth” without going too far into either. I feel a little weird about laces AND a t-strap, though. It’s like when Fergie came out with her shoe offerings a couple years ago and attempted to shove 15.932 trends into one shoe, and instead made a complete disaster.
Thoughts on the boots?

Fashion is a kind of romance, to me, and when I see a piece of clothing I want to feel something, like I do with a great painting. The best designers conjure up emotions on the runway – and the best brands hook me a second time by conjuring up even more emotions with their brand name, their about page, their purpose.
“Cri de Coeur is a French expression that translates literally to “cry from the heart.” To us, it symbolizes our heartfelt desire to change the face of the fashion footwear and accessory markets by providing stylish, contemporary products that are ethically produced from start to finish. The choices we make as designers, manufacturers and consumers can have an enormous impact on the lives of animals, humans and our environment, while not compromising on style. Our mission is to help ethical fashion saturate the future market of retail by exciting a dialogue that will demand that these ideals be met industry-wide – because the planet and its inhabitants depend on it.” – Cri de Coeur About Page

In a few months, I’m hopping a plane to Mississippi to visit my dear friend Haley. The thing I am most excited to do – even more excited about than the Mississippi River and studying the history of blues music – is exploring abandoned buildings.
Haley has prepared me: I must wear jeans, preferably hiking boots, and socks. Long sleeve shirts are best unless it’s just too damned hot. And pockets. I’ll need lots of pockets, so I can keep my hands free.
Oh, and dark, earthy colors so I don’t get arrested.

“Boots” is the wonderful music video for The Killers’ new Christmas single, continuing their tradition of releasing a magical Christmas song every year since 2006. “Boots” is a triumphant, heart-wrenching video directed by the major filmmaker Jared Hess, with a solo performance by Brandon Flowers. Proceeds from the song and the video will go to the Product Red Campaign, a charity that supports World Aids Day and raises awareness about AIDS in Africa.
“Boots” doesn’t go for the usual kind of general Christmas-time uplift: While Flowers details a quaint domestic setting, what we see are heartwarming scenes of a homeless man on the gritty streets of Las Vegas pulling himself up by the bootstraps through the magical art of street performance. Watch the video for “Boots” below; then call someone you love and cry like the 12-year old child inside you wants to do.
This piece includes color photographs, as well as the very inspiring music video.

The Isabel Marant Otway Boot Sparks a Craze, (and boots up the booty)
The day after French designer Isabel Marant unveiled her Fall/Winter 2009 collection in Paris in March, the Web sites for boutiques across the U.S. were flooded with emails about studded ankle-high boots, asking when they would be arriving and whether they could be ordered in advance.
Monika Beurmann, a 35-year-old IT consultant from Chicago, says that while looking at the fashion show on Style.com, she "fell in love with the futuristic design of the heel," and
pr e-ordered a pair from Diani, a boutique in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The boots in question, which didn't hit stores until September, are called "Otway," and they can fairly be called the "It" boots of the season. Made of supple suede, the cuffed booties are adorned with rows of circular studs and are held up by a four-inch triangular heel.
Those who are still interested in owning them can forget about it. With the exception of a few pairs on eBay, they are out of stock nearly everywhere, despite a $1,295 price tag.
Mary Blair, a 45-year-old mother of three from Santa Barbara, recently got her boots after being on a wait list for two months. Upon seeing the Otway style in a magazine, "I just thought, 'Oh my god I have to have those.' They kept creeping their way into my brain," she says.
The edgy boots were a departure for Ms. Marant, who is known for her bohemian style. In an email, she said that the inspiration for the Otway came from "this need to…push back a little against the look for my short silk chiffon print dresses."

Here comes the girl... in an ambulance!
A woman was rushed to hospital with serious burns after using a hair dye kit from Boots the Chemist.
22-year-old Zoe Vernon, from Manchester, was told by medics that she had the worst burns they'd ever seen. She spent three days in burns unit on a drip. Now she's home recovering but still suffering the affects, including blurred vision.
A spokeswoman for the beauty chain has helpfully reminded people to read the label properly before using their products in future. Here comes the girl... in an ambulance!

“Hark! It is September. Does this mean the leaves are starting to change and it's going to get chilly? Where did Summer go? I still have white, strapless dresses that have tags still attached and sandals that don't even have scuff marks on their bottoms. Well, thank goodness I live in Los Angeles, but for most of the world this means the changing of the closet! Unwrapping those cashmere sweaters, buying new wooden cedar hanger inserts, and starting to say good-bye to the romper trend. (For some of you that's a "thank-god." Though, owning a cute silk butterscotch Marc Jacobs one myself, I loved it!). So, to debut our Fall look I decided on the lovely Celine which is oh so French, and oh so divine, that you can't help but look sophisticated in its luxurious fabrics and its "I didn't try too hard" look. I know when the seasons start to change I wanna be cozy. I hate being unprepared for the weather outside and being itchy with bad wool or sweaty by being swamped by too much fabric. I like light layers that keep me warm. The Fall is great for layering lightly while experimenting with fabrics that will mesh with your lifestyle.
The outfit I've chosen………………..

Hey, Hey, Hey! It’s “Fashion Friday’s!” from www.oneof365.com” This magazine editor has a fun and eclectic wardrobe that she wants to share with you. You get to look at what she’s chosen from her closet this week (fun finds from London, vintage, markets from the globe, designers…) and hear a little history about the brands, how she came about finding the item and a fun tale or two about how she’s gotten her neat duds. A lot of fun because of the reader interaction and the humorous writing. She is a fun read and her blog is so eclectic, she always is coming up with something new (though “Fashion Fridays!” is a weekly staple).
This week is all about being 70’s retro chic and political without looking like a dowdy 1st lady!.Fashion is much more fun on Fridays!
Enjoy! Great pictures and captions too!
Blogger has an amazingly eclectic site with everything from beauty, fashion, diary style entries, poetry, life in the magazine world----this girl has everything. Already winner of the prestigious “Blog Of The Day Award” (some people take years to earn this—she’s only had her blog up 3 weeks!) and on top level blog rolls of awesome bloggers, this girl is amazing. A+++++

A local doctor in Philadelphia has said that Ugg boots can cause 'serious' problems with your feet and that if not dealt with soon, wearers could need surgery to correct the damage from the lack of support boots.
He's come up with an solution though...
"What I've been doing is making them a sport orthotic, the type of orthotic you use for running even tennis. Making it fit the Uggs. If it fits the sneaker, it will fit the Uggs.
Still, not sure how much I'd take his advice, he thinks they look good as well.A local doctor in Philadelphia has said that Ugg boots can cause 'serious'... more

When pig farmers Debbie and Andrew Keeble discovered a newborn member of their herd was afraid of mud, they were left scratching their heads over what to do. But, after thinking on the hoof, they soon realised a pair of wellies worn by a Paddington Bear toy fitted the young porker's tiny trotters like a glove.
Well, that must be the end of news as we know it. Nothing can top this.

Britain's leading scientific expert on alternative therapies has criticised Boots, the high street chemist, for becoming the country's largest seller of quack medicine.
Edzard Ernst, professor of complementary medicine at Exeter University, is set to criticise the company for selling more than 50 homeopathic remedies, which are shown by clinical trials to be no more effective than sugar pills. 34 of the remedies are sold under the 'Boots' brand, across its 1,500 UK stores.
Ernst argues that by failing to tell customers that its homeopathic medicines are ineffective in clinical trials and contain no active ingredients, Boots is breaching ethical guidelines drawn up by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
Homeopathic remedies are highly diluted solutions that often contain no trace of their original ingredients. Instead, homeopaths claim the treatments work because "healing energy" is imprinted into the water when it is shaken. In 2006, Sir Martin Rees, president of the Royal Society, said the possibility of a medicine working in this way would "entail some fundamentally new scientific principle with amazingly broad ramifications".
"Very few people are aware that the underlying principles of homeopathy are totally scientifically implausible, and even fewer people are aware that the trials show it doesn't do anything," said Ernst.
But with the UK market for homeopathic medicine worth around £38m last year, is this a matter of consumer choice? Should customers be able to purchase what is in effect a placebo - or are they being conned out of their money by a trusted chemists? It seems the company is going back to its 19th century roots in selling this guff to credulous customers... Britain's leading scientific expert on alternative therapies has criticised... more
