Brett Erlich likes to think of himself as the kind of guy who's just happy to be nominated for awards. But when he looks at himself in his Webcam, he knows the truth.
That's right -- Brett wants to win. And he's willing to do whatever it takes. Or, at least, film a few short videos shamelessly begging for votes.
Brett and Ellen Fox have been nominated for a prestigious Webby award in the "Variety" category for their stirring musical rendition of all the deaths in the "Saw" movie franchise. Never has such gruesomeness sounded so sweet to the ears.
But voting ends tonight (Thursday) at midnight. (Here's the link again.) And the infoMania duo is up against some very stiff competition, including Zach Galifianakis, comic book legend Stan Lee and the illuminating TED Talks. So Brett badly needs your help, which might explain the video's raw air of desperation.
And if the above video doesn't inspire you to scroll your mouse over to webby.aol.com, then maybe this last postscript will. Would it change your mind if, say, Ellen was suffering from some exotic disease? Or if you received some tangible reward for voting? Yes, Brett leaves no heartstring untugged in this last-ditch effort for support.

So, while we were all enjoying the Bank Holiday, something pretty special went down in the States, Current won two Webby Awards!
We were nominated in three different categories: two for our infoporn Twitter mashup coverage of the US Election, Hack the Debate. One in Best Use of Interactive Video and the other for Events and Live Broadcasts and another for News & Politics: Individual Episodes for Mariana Von Zellar's Vanguard piece on the turnout of young voters in the election, entitled 'Obama's Army'
So, Hackthedebate won both the People's Voice Award and the official Webby award for Best Use of Interactive Video ~ something that wouldn't have been possible without the help of you guys getting involved when it was going down, and of course, voting for us in the run up to the awards.
Vanguard' Mariana Van Zeller's documentary on the exceptional turn out of young voters in the US Election, 'Obama’s Army,' also scooped the People's Voice Winner Award, meaning that it was down to you guys that we won, so again a massive bloody thanks to the lot of you!

"Soldiers" is an acclaimed short, one-minute film directed by Hillman Curtis. The film was an Official Honoree at the 2008 Webby Awards and ealier was named to The Filminute 2007 Shortlist. An unsettling portrait of loss, "Soldiers" is a film that reflects upon the experiences of personal tragedy inflicted upon many persons as a consequence of our involvement in the current “War on Terror.”
“Soldiers” is a touchingly solemn portrayal of death and loss, which is quietly expressed in a manner that is best described as both subtle and dignified.
Photographs and this very moving film are included."Soldiers" is an acclaimed short, one-minute film directed by Hillman... more

Hello community,
In case you haven't heard, The Webby Awards have nominated two of our Vanguard pods in People's Voice categories this year! Because you guys play such a massive role here, any nomination for Current is a nomination for the community as well.
In case you haven't seen them yet, our two nominees are:
Drama: Individual Episode
From Russia With Hate: http://current.com/items/84906361_from_russia_with_hate
News & Politics: Individual Episode
Getting Waterboarded: http://current.com/items/76347282_getting_waterboarded
These two pods represent what makes Current a unique place. Where else are you going to see someone willingly subject themselves to waterboarding so that the public can visually see the practice in action and make a determination of their own? Congratulations to Kaj, Cristof, and the rest of our Vanguard journalists on these nominations.
And now, community, the fate of these awards is in your capable hands. Do what you do best, and vote. Visit the Webby Awards site to cast your ballot. You’ll need to register, but once you've registered head over to the Online Film & Video section and click on the Drama: Individual Episode, and News & Politics: Individual Episode categories to see the nominees.
Vote early, spread the word, and who knows, we all may end up Webby Award winners this year.
