The Greenhouse Neutral Foundation declares July 5th to be
WORLD INTERDEPENDENCE DAY.
We are as global citizens interdependent on world mitigation to avoid an uncertain future that may prove difficult if not impossible for those that will follow us in the decades to come.
Climate change has no national boundaries and neither should our agreement to act.
The Greenhouse Neutral Foundation calls upon those that can choose to be global statesmen to secure a safe future, to recognise our interdependence and act not with nationalistic focus but as global citizens.
In December in Copenhagen should you fail to agree with national agendas carried with you, you will have failed the interdependence of all to a safe future.

WORLD INTERDEPENDENCE DAY
July 5th 2009
We are not independent of the actions of all other global citizens.
While our independence as individuals and as nations is a right to act as such, our individual and national emissions will continue to impact all impartially.

A GLOBAL PETITION TO BAN THE BAG
Sign here ……… http://www.greenhouseneutral.net/blog.asp
Introduced just over 30 years ago in 1977, the ugly truth about our plastic bag addiction is that society's consumption rate is now estimated at well over 500,000,000,000 (that's 500 billion) plastic bags annually, or almost 1 million per minute.
The Greenhouse Neutral Foundation and its many friends and allies all around the world on Saturday September 26 2009 will call for the world to BAN THE BAG. Our vision will be that by the turn of the clock at midnight on December 31st 2010 they will be BANNED forever globally.
Sign here ……… http://www.greenhouseneutral.net/blog.asp
By signing this petition today you will have taken a simple step to make this happen.
Why is this so important?
Some of the ugly facts:
Once brought into existence to tote your purchases, they'll accumulate and persist on our planet for up to 1,000 years.
The U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. An estimated 12 million barrels of oil is required to make that many plastic bags. That’s more than 1,200 bags per US resident, per year. Four out of five grocery bags in the US are now plastic.
The average family accumulates 60 plastic bags in only four trips to the grocery store.
Australia, a country of only some 22 million or so, consumes about 6.9 billion plastic bags each year, that's 326 per person. According to Australia's Department of Environment, an estimated 49,600,000 annually end up as litter.
Every single piece of plastic ever manufactured is still on the planet.
It is in use, intact in landfills, as windblown litter, and also toxically contaminating global river systems and oceans.
There is an estimated 46,000 pieces of plastic in each square mile of ocean. Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animal deaths every year when animals mistake them for food.
There are over 3,300 deaths of children each year in the US alone who die from asphyxiation from plastic bags.
WSJ Target, the second-largest retailer in the U.S., purchases 1.8 billion bags a year. In the U.S. alone $4 billion per year is spent by retailers giving away free plastic bags.
The simple act of saying NO to plastic bags is something every global citizen can do.
We have the choice and, the reasons to are clear.
Throughout the ongoing campaign Countries will be petitioned to implement a total ban on the use of plastic bags and confirm a date for their eradication.
Companies who presently support the use of plastic bags will be highlighted for their environmental impact and disregard to the outcome of their actions.
Consumers who support the use of plastic bags will be educated on the outcome of their choice and encouraged to say NO to plastic bags. Each high quality reusable bag used has the potential to eliminate an average of 1,000 plastic bags over its lifetime.
By signing this petition today you will have taken a simple step to make this happen. Spreading the word to BAN the BAG will be an environmental achievement you can, and will be proud of.

Is it any wonder that policy makers and world leaders are not thinking or agreeing on vital climate change policy? Agreeing on emissions reduction targets or how and where we are right now?
In scientific papers, journals, reports, policy documents and even newspaper article and magazine stories we are repeatedly confusing everyone by comparing ‘CO2 apples with Global Warming oranges’.
We had better clear up this issue. We had better start comparing and talking same and same. The oranges are growing faster than the apples.

From the piece
Last week, the heaviest snowfall since the '90s blanketed the U.K., disrupting bus, rail and air transportation and costing areas like London a cool billion in lost revenue.
Meanwhile, in Australia, a punishing, record drought was worsened by the nation's worst heat wave and worst wildfires, wherein over 400 conflagrations killed over 200 people (and counting), torched a thousand homes and renewed calls for a country with its environmental head up its ass to finally launch its still-hibernating national warning system.
Those who would argue that these are isolated events do so at their own peril. The more time passes, the more both examples of extreme weather resemble two sides of the same fearsome coin known as catastrophic climate change.
And depending on how the science plays out, it could get much worse indeed, and fast.
Deniers of catastrophic climate change have been clinging to extreme rainstorms and snowstorms, such as those recently witnessed in the U.K. or American East Coast, like life rafts off the Titanic.
They still argue that such record-breaking deep freezes disprove global warming. But they're desperately seeking semantics, while the rest of the world is waking up to reality. Which is this: Catastrophic climate change will feature as much ice as fire. It probably already has.
Yes my friends - It's is time to wake up.

LEADING IPCC SCIENTIST ADMITS CLIMATE RISK HAS BEEN UNDERESTIMATED
Since 1990 the four reports by the Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), established by the United Nationa in 1988, were criticized for being watered down by government officials, and for underestimating the effects of carbon cycle feedbacks, the dynamics of ice sheet melt, methane emissions, and the rate of temperature and sea level rise, currently tracking near the top of IPCC projections (Rahmstorf et al., 2007) http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/1136843v1.
Now a leading IPCC scientist, Chris Field (Stanford University and the Carnegie Institution for Science), points out the fourth assessment report of the IPCC has underestimated the potential severity of global warming over the next 100 years. http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2009-02/su-ccl021009.php

On February 19, President Obama will make his first foreign visit - to Canada. His visit sets the stage for America's clean energy future. That's because America's number one source of foreign oil is Canada, thanks to tar sands oil.
Tar sands oil has been dubbed the dirtiest oil on the planet. It is the most harmful type of oil for the atmosphere, emitting high volumes of greenhouse gases.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said that he wants Canadian tar sands oil development on the agenda when he meets with President Obama. The current Canadian government wants to propose a U.S.-Canada climate pact that would "protect" tar sands greenhouse gas emissions from global warming regulation.
TAKE ACTION...
Make sure President Obama knows that the tar sands don't fit in a new energy economy
At this critical moment President Obama has an opportunity to act boldly for a new, clean future. Send President Obama and Prime Minister Harper a letter. Urge them to continue President Obama's path forward for a green energy revolution. Tell them not to step backwards by locking the U.S. into a future dependent on dirty tar sands oil.
Instructions:
Go to the bottom of the action page.
Read the sample letter and modify if you can. Personalized letter text and/or subject headers will increase the impact of your letter.
Clicking "Send My Message" will send your letter via email to President Obama and Prime Minister Harper.

When I read this article by Allison Potter it supplied me with some hope. She asks many of the questions we ask here as to how we can get the attention of our decision makers.
As is posted on my web site:-
'We face many challenges in the global community brought on by practices and lifestyle choices made collectively over the last few decades.
Some choices and outcomes we may view as out of our control, made by our political leaders and the masters of Industry and Commerce. This view has been our choice and their decisions are with our agreement.
The future will be our choice also.'
I will be in touch with Allison for the series I will be running "An Interview With an Activist'

Our political MASTERS are not listening to logic.
Not only are their policies shaped by corporate manipulation, the Oil & Gas Industry the Coal Industry, the multinationals, they are guided in their flawed thinking by advisors that have corrupt self-serving agendas to promote.
In the final and ultimate socratic irony, they stumble towards their decisions as to mans future, with the economic advice of experts, that can only count to 20 by removing their shoes.
When will they start listening to logic?

In Victoria, the bushfire apocalypse of the last few days has brought a curious response from politicians, who are keen to be seen and heard about everything except the elephant in the room: climate change.
Last Sunday when Victoria erupted into flames, it was the hottest day on record at 46.4C in Melbourne and 48.8C was recorded in Hopetoun, following almost immediately after 35 days without rain. This is beyond all lived experience in this part of the world.
Record temperatures and more extreme events are consistent with the projected impacts of global warming, and the horror of the last few days with up to 200 people likely to have lost their lives may be a grim warming of life in the Australian countryside with elevated temperatures, less rain and generally drier conditions, and more extreme events.
Twice in the last two weeks the Victorian premier has told us that two separate extreme weather events are "one-in-1,000-year or one-in-500-year" events.
But his chief climate change advisor, Prof. David Karoly politely corrected him on the first occasion, noting that the 43C+ temperatures of 28-31 January would be "much more like the normal experience in 10 to 20 years".
By today premier Brumby was recognizing that: "There is clear evidence now that the climate is becoming more extreme. Those people that doubted it... we have had temperatures of 48 degrees.''
We know from the research that what we now find extraordinary will become almost every day in a heated world, and then it will be too late.
As the highlighted article in this story demonstrates Australia as in the United States the focus of our attention is on what is affecting our daily lives today. If we continue on the illogical sleepwalk of our present course and if our political masters don’t wake up and smell the roses, our planet of the future will be a barren waste land. Our children will be left to search for ways of survival.
Forget the financial crisis of today there are 'no jobs' there is 'no money' and 'no future' on a dead planet.
Why? see http://zerogreenhouseemissions.blogspot.com/ and ask the guy on the right. In Victoria, the bushfire apocalypse of the last few days has brought a curious... more

The Ross Ice Shelf in West Antarctica is the size of France.
It's weak under-belly - the grounding line where the Ice Shelf sits on submerged mountains is a current cause of concern to heightened observation for scientists and glaciologists.
We know the Wilkings Ice Shelf has broken away 15 years ahead of previous (best guess) predictions.
How soon will the Rose Ice Shelf go? We will find out.
