Current Green interviews Han Shan, activist with Amazon Watch about the new film, CRUDE. Three years in the making, this cinéma-vérité feature from acclaimed filmmaker Joe Berlinger (Brother's Keeper, Paradise Lost, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster) is the epic story of one of the largest and most controversial environmental lawsuits on the planet. Han takes us behind the scenes and speaks to what people can do to get involved with the issues.
Texaco (which was absorbed by Chevron) dumped 18 billion gallons of toxic waste in the Ecuadorian Amazon. It created a Rhode Island sized “death zone” of miscarriages, cancer, and premature deaths which is being called a health crisis in the area. Chevron is being sued for their actions, and Amazon Watch is in the midst of a campaign to mobilize people to get involved with the Campaign to hold accountable and clean up of this region.
