Merge Records has confirmed a Jan. 26 U.S. release of Spoon’s seventh-full length album, Transference.
The ghost of Spoon’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga has lingered for more than two years now, with its charming misspellings (“Don’t You Evah,” “Rhthm & Soul”) and carefully crafted pop rock. Little information of any follow-up had surfaced since, though this changed a few weeks ago thanks to one helpful publicist and remarkable listening session.
As NPR’s Bob Boilen recalls, said publicist approached him at D.C.’s 9:30 Club by saying she had something he would want to hear. The two went in her car and listened to about half of the record before the All Songs Considered host determined Transference as something to look forward to next year.
“It’s one thing to play a poignant guitar part, but the next part of the art is mixing it at the right volume, placing it in the best position in the stereo field to serve the song, putting just the right effect on it to either blend well with the song or act as counterpoint,” he said. “That care and craft is what I was hearing in the Spoon record.”
The U.K. release of Transference is also set for Jan. 25 through Anti-.
Tracklist:
1. Before Destruction
2. Is Love Forever?
3. The Mystery Zone
4. Who Makes Your Money
5. Written in Reverse
6. I Saw the Light
7. Trouble Comes Running
8. Goodnight Laura
9. Out Go the Lights
10. Got Nuffin
11. Nobody Gets Me But You

Being that news about Amy Winehouse spans the gamut of importance from relatively high to seriously, who cares?, a bit of positivity coming down the pipeline can be quite exciting. And with that, we bring you this tidbit: abovementioned co-president Darcus Beese told BBC News that a new Winehouse record is due in 2010. Which, you know, is only three months away.
Through the flurry of Winehouse gossip news that's flooded our RSS feeds in the past few years, hearing that she's getting back to music is a great change of pace. Especially when Beese dropped this gem: "I've heard a couple of song demos that absolutely floored me." PR hyperbole or no, the new album would be the follow-up to Winehouse's breakthrough behemoth of a record, Back to Black, which sold over 10 million copies worldwide.Island Records' co-president seems to think so!

For the first time in eighteen years, Sonic Youth are a full-fledged indie-rock band again. After completing their contract for longtime major label Geffen Records with the release of 2006’s Rather Ripped, the group will release their next record on an indie label, Thurston Moore tells Rolling Stone. “There’s one label we are certainly going to go with at this point,” he says. “But I don’t think I’m allowed to disclose that right now. I don’t want to risk having a shit storm.” Moore does reveal, however, that Sonic Youth are currently in the writing-stage of their next album.
In November, they’ll hit the studio to cut tracks, with the goal of releasing the disc sometime next spring. “I’ve written a half-dozen song ideas,” he says. “I try not to complete them so much. Last time we got together, we were creating sort of new band-zone-vibe sort of things.” As for returning to the indie world again, Moore is psyched. “It feels great,” he says. “The last four or five records we did were just so compromised by that [major label] situation. But that’s the way it goes.” For the first time in eighteen years, Sonic Youth are a full-fledged indie-rock band... more

It seems every Tom, Dick and Harry are up for a reunion in 2009. Blur, Blink 182 and there's rumours even Led Zeppelin have all rejoined forces to bring back the music and to earn a few extra quid, but now Limp Bizkit have reportedly kissed and made up and will be touring the world. Yes, the whole world.
The reasons behind the band's original split are still shaky, the guitarist Wes Borland claimed he left the nu-metal band as he felt he was limited artistically and didn't like the idea that he was part of a so-called 'sell out' band. So it's with great pleasure, and probably a lack of money, that he's got over his issues and agreed to rejoin...
"We decided we were more disgusted and bored with the state of heavy popular music than we were with each other. Regardless of where our separate paths have taken us, we recognize there is a powerful and unique energy with this particular group of people we have not found anywhere else. This is why Limp Bizkit is back."
Personally, I can't see Limp Bizkit doing any good to the 'heavy metal' scene, there's a wealth of pop-rockers out there already. Does the scene really need another comeback, or is it just Durst and his boys trying to grab up some more monies? It seems every Tom, Dick and Harry are up for a reunion in 2009. Off the back of his much-remixed, dancefloor smashing track 'Mind Dimension,' it seems electro-house producer/DJ Tiga is back with a bang.
His website has switched to a single picture of the DJ in what looks like his new album cover, entitled 'Ciao.' `It's expected to drop on April 20th with the first single being taken from it called 'Shoes.'
There's some cheeky teaser audio at the jump, I'd strongly recommend giving it a listen. No doubt expect some big names on remix duty in the coming months.Off the back of his much-remixed, dancefloor smashing track 'Mind Dimension,' it seems... more

Flight of the Conchords have announced, drum roll please, that they will be releasing a new full-length album after their second TV series finishes.
The New Zealand comedy duo plan to release a new track every week on iTunes straight after each new episode airs on HBO.
The album is currently untitled and is due to include ten tracks that feature in the new series as well as five completely unheard tunes.
Going on the success of the band's first EP 'The Distant Future' which won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album, and their self-titled full-length debut record which is nominated for a Grammy, I'm thinking this one could be a gem.See, there is a god!
