After working hard his entire life, Jim should be settling into retirement. Instead, he is 69 years old and living in a tent in the woods of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Jim only wants to return to his former life. His three wishes are simple: to go back to work, to get his home back, and to get a meal in a restaurant. I hope things turn around for him soon.

Coreen is homeless, but she is also a survivor. I met her on her second day living in Nickelsville, Seattle's infamous tent city. Rather than stay in an abusive relationship, Coreen ran with just the clothes on her back to escape the daily beatings. I'm glad she got away, many victims of domestic violence are not so lucky.
Although the thought of being homeless was frightening to Coreen, she was happy to escape to Nickelsville. She said that her first night in the tent city was the best night’s sleep she's had in over a year, because she now feels safe.
Now if only we could give all of the residents of Nickelsville the peace of having a 'safe ground' [ http://www.westseattleherald.com/2009/08/25/news/port-tells-nickelsville-be-out-sept-30 ] of their own.

Ed lived under a bridge before moving to his makeshift "apartment" in a Nashville wooded area. While his current living arrangement isn't ideal, it is impressive. If nothing else, it proves that some people can make the best of a bad situation. Still, Ed looks forward to someday having a real apartment with a real light switch on the wall.
And as for his outdoor apartment? He says he'll give it to someone else in need.
For four hard months, Vickie has been living under a bridge. She says that there are lots of rats and ants, yet this is where they now call home. She ended up on the streets as a direct result of the recession; Vickie’s boyfriend lost his job and their ability to pay rent.
When I asked Vickie about sleeping on the rocks, she showed me how she uses her clothes as padding to make a bed. That really broke my heart. People should not have to live like this.
Vickie said she hoped she'd find a place to live this week. I hope so too. A bridge is not an appropriate roof for anyone.

An Offbeat Insight into the World of the DJ and the UK Dance scene.
This work examines the role of the DJ as a contemporary urban Shaman, rather than the commonly portrayed media image of an ego-inflated superstar.
In an ever-complex contemporary society, functioning with the primal vitality of a musician, entertainer and tribal initiator, the DJ fills those voids left by individual and collective disaffection and marginalisation.
The DJ has the innate ability, and opportunity, to guide us through an entitled rite of passage, a custom long-lost in Western culture.
This film is a visual and musical narration with its focus on the seminal role that the DJ has within modern civilization.
Economics and the mass market are considerations. Dance culture forces significant changes within commercial, fashion and creative trends, with the DJ an inspiring impulse behind young design.
The DJ is a re-animator of deep primal needs, exposing with pulses and rhythms the communal heartbeat of those that abandon the prohibitive conventions of daily life, and welcome the spirit of dance, music and fellowship.
In all culture dance is a fundamental medium of sharing and expression, with the DJ having the entitlement to incite movement in even the most passive and sedentary. By the transmutation of contemporary social dance into community, culture is born.
This film probes a practice that has the capacity to initiate movement on a collective scale, to stimulate political mass and inspire new social consciousness.
The DJ is a leader in the transient community of the moment, uniting a largely anonymous collective through rhythm, dance and groove, navigating this group by the positive validation of shared values and beliefs.
In modern cosmopolitan society young people perpetually search for community ritual and myth from a world otherwise holding little spiritual meaning. Consequently there is willingness to enter into collective participation and lucid, honest connection with peers similarly disillusioned by the self-absorbed cult of the individual.
A penetrating analysis of research that incorporates facets of ethnomusicology and dance, this film is artistically reconstructed to illustrate the work-life, practice and socio-political potential of the DJ within Western culture.Spun Out

The youth of our age, surrounded by a swarm of difficulties and problems is in search of a solution, but what he eventually finds is more and more of difficulties and disappointments. When unemployed and poverty numbs all his senses, paralyzes all his muscles, he feels life is nothing but a futile effort, a bottomless pit of poverty and indigence. According to one estimate, in past 10 years, around 10 thousand Pakistanis have been killed by security forces, crossing Greece-Turkey border illegally. In pursuit of an ever evading happiness, who are these ill-informed people and who are the traffickers involved in this heinous trade of human trafficking. The real issue is how come the educated ones of our country fall prey to these human traffickers. Poverty and related problems are the main reasons behind human trafficking and illegal immigration. Your pursuit of happiness can bring this much misery and suffering, one can only know by meeting the people under Custody of FIA, who have recently been deported from the Turkey Border. It seems an obvious enough advice to have a safe albeit simple life at home, than to a have risky prosperous life abroad. But mired deeply in the troubled waters, it’s only dreams of a happy living that make these people go through all sorts of troubles.
I just pray that my country Pakistan finds a leader, a person who can improve the situation in our country, so that no one thinks about leaving this country and going through this humiliation This heinous crime of Illegal immigration, despite efforts by the State, is flourishing. One obvious contributors of this crime are the people who become a victim of agents’ treacherous promises, lost their lives’ savings and became a victim of dark alleys.
The question that haunts us all is till what time these traffickers would dupe the gullible of their livelihoods and till what time the carcasses of the youth of our country would be feasted by the beasts in unknown wildernesses.

Amongst the most beautiful regions of the world, the picturesque valleys of Swat and Buneir used to be huge tourist attraction. The people of this land were remembered for their ethereal beauty and generous hospitality.
But all this changed in a short span of time. These valleys soon became a symbol of terror and insecurity for the tourists. Even the locals started feeling insecure in their homeland.
With a population of around 5 millions, these valleys became a burning inferno right in front of the eyes of the world, fuelled by religious bigotry and fanaticism.
To eliminate the menace of terrorism, Pakistan Army started its operation in the troubled region, the subsequent resistance by Taliban forces turned this halcyon patches into a war zone.
Lush green fields turned into deadly bunkers, happy faces suddenly plagued by death stricken silence. The ensuing uncertainty culminated into the biggest exodus of human history. Around 3 million people left their homes to taste the bitter tastes of homelessness, settling in the Tent Villages at Mardan, Naushehra and Swabi.
Leaving the war zone was an unavoidable decision, the migration inescapable, but in these testing times, the true essence of people came out. Armed with the sense of compassion, sacrifice and devotion came out the helping hands. And pretty soon many a new shelters started appearing. The sense of homelessness started giving way to a glimmer of hope, peace and security.
A huge contingent of IDPs in Swabi was welcomed b y Mr Liaquat Taraki, the chairman of Tarakai group and Head of Liaquat Khan welfare trust. The aim and mission of Trakai trust is to make Swabi a prosperous district, and to help elevate the living standard of Swabi people by eradicating poverty and backwardness.

Since last year, I have been documenting the stories of the homeless. For the past months, I have traveled from coast-to-coast talking to people living in the streets, in shelters, in weekly-rate hotels, and under bridges.
Nearly one hundred interviews (and thousands of pairs of donated socks) later, my perspective on homelessness has changed dramatically. For me, Angela's story resonated. For you, it might be Willy or Drew or Donna's story that strikes a chord.
But regardless of how you get the message, I hope you get the message.
Homelessness is a complex problem. Although everyone has a different story and different reasons for being homeless, there are similarities in these stories. Although these videos are not often about solutions to homelessness, I hope one thing has become clear: if we want to solve homelessness, we need to stop focusing on band-aid solutions.
As advocates from coast to coast have screamed and shouted for years, it's okay to feed people in the park, but we have to focus on getting them out of the park and into safe, decent, and affordable housing.
Please watch this short video. If it affects you, do something. Embed it video on your blog, send a link to all your friends, do whatever it takes to help keep people like Angela from dying under a bridge in America.

I met Ulysses under a bridge in Atlanta, Georgia. He was sleeping on rocks, and said it was his favorite spot. He called it "home" and said he was happy there.
But you have to wonder, how happy a person can be when thousands of cars drive by every day, seeing him live like this, and do nothing?
Where does indifference end and invisible begin?

John lives in a small grassy area right in the middle of Downtown Atlanta. He had a rough childhood and never learned to read, which has proven to be a real roadblock in finding a job.
For the past six years, John has been in and out of homelessness. Although he has family, he says he stays on the streets by choice; although it’s not uncommon for a ‘couch surfing’ arrangement to go bad quickly.
Although John’s situation is rough, he maintains a positive attitude. As he says in his own words, to get up out of homelessness, “You’ve got to want it.”
Thing is, when someone is ready, we need to be there to help.
