This is dedicated to my father who died of cancer and to all those who have lost loved ones.
On April 4th, 2011 my father passed away after a long battle against a rare form of skin cancer. This song has special meaning for me because I first saw the film about 2 years ago when I heard my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I put together photos of different parts of his life to basically tell the story of his life in brief detail. He was always good at making people laugh and always spoke good about other people and rarely about himself. We miss him terribly.
His birthday is October 3rd and this October 4th marks 6 months since he passed away. Happy Birthday, Dad! Rest in Peace! Miss you!

Cannabis inhalation is associated with spontaneous brain tumor regression in two subjects, according to a pair of case reports to be published in Child’s Nervous System, the official journal of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery.
Investigators at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver documented the mitigation of residual tumors in two adolescent subjects who regularly inhaled cannabis. Authors determined that both subjects experienced a “clear regression” of their residual brain tumors over a three-year-period.
“Neither patient received any conventional adjuvant treatment” during this time period, investigators wrote. “The tumors regressed over the same period of time that cannabis was consumed via inhalation, raising the possibility that cannabis played a role in tumor regression.”

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins :
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few
billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are
unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.........

he new "Show Us Your Bra!" calendar for 2011 is out - and like others in the past, it's a collection of bras as works of art that range from beautiful to inspiring to whimsical.
There's a photo of a bra made of buckskin in honor of a Native American "Spiritual Warrior." There's a bra fashioned from lovely white flowers. There's a bra made "For a Modest Mermaid (with help from her friends)" that depicts a round turtle next to a round fish, so that the two round forms resemble - well, you know. And there's "Picking Up the Pieces," a bra made from pieces of smashed china to symbolize the process of creating a new life after cancer.
There's one difference, though. This year's calendar - sales of which benefit women with breast cancer - has gone national.
The 2011 "Show Us Your Bra" calendar, which began as a local fundraiser, now includes works by artists who hail from San Francisco, New Jersey, Dublin, Ohio, and even Australia. Their creations are there alongside those of Pam Roberts of western Massachusetts and Chapin Gilmore-Strickland of South Deerfield.

The President’s Cancer Panel is the Mount Everest of the medical mainstream, so it is astonishing to learn that it is poised to join ranks with the organic food movement and declare: chemicals threaten our bodies.
Traditionally, we reduce cancer risks through regular doctor visits, self-examinations and screenings such as mammograms. The President’s Cancer Panel suggests other eye-opening steps as well, such as giving preference to organic food, checking radon levels in the home and microwaving food in glass containers rather than plastic.
In particular, the report warns about exposures to chemicals during pregnancy, when risk of damage seems to be greatest. Noting that 300 contaminants have been detected in umbilical cord blood of newborn babies, the study warns that: “to a disturbing extent, babies are born ‘pre-polluted.’ ”

Canadian researchers have discovered a previously hidden channel to attack leukemia and other cancer cells, according to a new study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. The findings from the Université de Montréal, Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and Université Laval may change the way doctors treat cancer patients.
"We found a gateway, which is present in all humans, that allows anti-cancer agents such as Bleomycin to enter the body so they may reach and attack leukemia cells," says senior author Dindial Ramotar, a professor at the Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine and a scientist at the affiliated Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital.
Dr. Ramotar began testing his theory a full decade ago using baker's yeast, which is remarkably similar to human cells. "Our discovery went from that model system to human cells and will soon reach the bedside through translational therapy," he explains. "We are on the brink of testing patients."
The new gateway (SLC22A16) may be a lifesaver for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a cancer that affects white blood cells. AML patients are extremely difficult to treat, since most are unresponsive to anticancer remedies. "We can now streamline anti-cancer agents to treat AML," says Dr. Ramotar. "For example, we found the anti-cancer agent Bleomycin has positive results on lymphoma cells derived from patients and depends on the presence of the gateway. That's especially good news, since Bleomycin does not act as an immunosuppressant."
The newly identified gateway, Dr. Ramotar cautions, is only "present in some cell types such as those derived from bone marrow." The channel also does not function in colon and breast cancer making it difficult to treat these patients with Bleomycin, he adds. "We must now examine ways to stimulate the gateway to treat a broad range of cancers using Bleomycin and other drugs."
This study was supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the National Cancer Institute of Canada.
