When noise pollution is not making us sick and anxious, it is literally killing us. How do we turn it off?
June 25, 2008 | Henry Bean can't stand the sound of burglar alarms. He hates back-up beepers on trucks and bristles when garbage rigs grind up their fetid loads in the middle of the night, the noise reverberating off Manhattan's buildings. But Bean harbors special resentment for the oblivious car owners whose vehicles blare false alarms. "It bothers me that their cars can shout in my ear, not stop shouting, and I can't do anything about it," he says. "My pride can't handle it. I can't exist if I don't fight back in some way, however pathetically or ineffectually."

Accidents do happen — like the time I was having breakfast with a San Francisco police commander and forgot to turn my phone off of vibrate. When it went off, I jumped and we were both so startled I thought my nervous friend in blue might shoot me.
And accidents especially seem to happen to bicyclists in the Bay Area, because every time there is a collision, a story follows fanning the public outrage.
Oh, and did I mention that in almost every story, it was the car driver who is said to be at fault? In this part of the world, pedal power equates with political power.
So I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback to hear that bicycle advocates were actually the ones generating an idea that would allow them to legally blow past stop signs and perhaps use a little more caution at red lights, which were to be seen by them as stop signs.

SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - A new noise map points the way to the loudest neighborhood in The City — the South of Market area, which is rapidly growing with new high-rises packed with residents.
SoMa has a noise level of 70 decibels, which is the average measurement during a 24-hour period. The noise levels at night factored more heavily than during the day.
The SoMa noise levels can be compared with that of a vacuum running within a few feet of a person, according the Department of Public Health. The department recently completed an acoustic study of The City, which measured noise levels experienced by each building — its residents and workers.

Over in Oakland they like it loud - so loud that all 45 of the Police Department's Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been equipped with shiny new tailpipes, at a cost of $500 apiece, to rev up their roar.

As if heart failure isn't enough, according to research, there is a link between how much, and the duration somebody smokes for, and their chances of suffering deafness.
The cross-European study which focussed on a total of 4,083 men and women (aged between 53 and 67) also discovered a link between people with a higher BMI and those more susceptible to suffering hearing loss.

The biggest question one can make to themselves looking at their mirror Today is:
-Why is that---- that I am insisting on giving power to a wrong group of individuals to run our society, our environment and part of my own life?
The question here is not about me, but it is about You!
As you can hear and see, I am not the one giving power to them everyday!
If We stop for a moment to look around our Media Information Today you see and hear from the controlled media; people talking about International issues, the latest car, their hair do, their pants, their shopping spree and etc.
Even here at Current TV Cyber News and CurrentTV many compete every single Day airing all kinds of issues.
Some issues are with no question, very important but many are not! It has no real life threatening time limits, it does not help the environment, it does not help human life, they are actually, part of the problem.
Many, it is just a distraction from our Present Reality.
However these issues get put first on TV. People flock to see the 30+(s) sec.; of Junk News and International News and thus denying the real value of our Local Issues and the lives of those that are being abused every single Day by a Tyranny Regime.
So--- Please--- Ask these questions to yourself right now!
- What is really priority Today?
- What can I do to stop Acoustic Terrorism happening (in) and (out) of our Local Government?
- What can I do to have a living environment that is clean from pollution?
- How can I have respect for myself and for others by making our society a better place for everyone to live in?
- What can I do to be That less than a vegetable personality in front of my TV or my Computer Today?
Not that all the other issues; Even the International Ones; that You can not do anything about it; have its degrees of importance as an information content.
But what about our Local Issues that We need to Resolve Right Now?
You see, This is not only a Fiction story, it is Real! There are a group of acoustic psychopaths running among the Public and in the Government that needs to be stop ASAP!
Would you act to do that right now?
Or you are going to continue to play this Dangerous Hypocrite Game of Denial?
What are your priorities in regards to Saving Human Lives?
- Are you going to continue to give power to a passive aggressive psychopath abuser; Or you are going to act to stop them Today?
- What are you going to do?
This is an Action Issue!

It has been two years since An Inconvenient Truth was released. These were my thoughts on it after seeing it for the first time:
I had a front row seat in a packed theatre to see Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth last night. I can describe it in two words: a journey. It is Al Gore's journey of heart, soul, spirit, and mind through a lifetime of stewardship and also growth. For as much as this movie is a clarion call to all of us to now take our own journey for our planet, ourselves, and our children, it is also Al Gore's reckoning with himself. He lays his soul bare to warn us of the consequences of our inaction now regarding this crisis, because it relays to the events in his own life in the past that brought him to this point as well.
The scenes showing his early years in Congress, his son's car accident, the 2000 election (yes, I cried here,) and the very poignant scenes of him with his sister Nancy who died of lung cancer revealed to me a man not doing this out of any selfish political intent, but of a man who is telling you, the viewer, that even he has had to experience loss and near loss in his life in order to realize what he lost and how much of a part he played in it. I think those scenes were shown in direct correlation to this climate crisis and his message that we must not make the same mistake now with our planet.
Will we look back years from now regretting that we continued the very behavior that is contributing to this crisis even knowing what it is doing to our planet? Or will we take the necessary steps to change our ways and heed the warnings before it is too late? That is the question of this movie and there is no alarmism whatsoever in the presentation of the solutions we have at our disposal. Mr. Gore relays the facts starkly, calmly, and at times humorously, and clearly lays out what we can do to mitigate this crisis. And the scientific consensus cannot be denied that we as a species are contributing to it and it is having a definite effect on our world.
His statistics on Co2, invasive species, species loss, ice cap melting, population growth, etc., intertwined with footage from around the world showing the effects of the statistics he showed was all very well presented and backed up. I also never got the impression that any of this is about him in any other sense than him using himself as an example of someone who had to reach the bottom in order to reach for the top.
I laughed, I cried, and I saw before me on the screen a man who has surely come full circle with who he is and what his mission is, and that is handing that mission and truth to us. He says he is not a hero, and frankly, I didn't see a hero in this movie and that is a good thing. Heroes have a tendency to be placed on pedestals and forgotten. I saw something much more. I saw a prophet, a missive, and a trailblazer who has full faith in our abilty to save our planet. And we must not let our planet down, and that also includes those in government and the corporate world whose indifference to this issue can no longer be tolerated.
