A tribute to the world of Lewis Carroll's Wonderland, the long dream that has inspired artists from around the world. A journey through the mirror to discover the many faces of Alice
"What is the difference between a raven and a writing desk?". None: Edgar Allan Poe wrote on both. This and many other comments were written during the year, virtually every line of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece, the book that, thanks to the power of nonsense, to teach girls to subvert the rules that were imposed on them. From the writing to date figure of Alice has inspired artists of all types (painters, photographers, musicians, cartoonists, filmmakers and so on and so forth), and researchers, mathematicians, scientists, psychologists have seen in Alice 's essence of femininity itself ...
Classical ballets, paintings, stories, scenes from films that pay homage, quotes scattered in unexpected places ... We tend to think of Alice, except that on paper, there is only one Disney, and now that Tim Burton, but it is not. Only the adjustments to the movies and on television are over sixty, not to mention all those movies are Alice without declaring it openly (one for all: Coraline, Henry Selick).
Alphabet City has always been fascinated by the surreal, it does that instead of passively accepting the rules put them into dicussion, art and culture, has prepared you for this special covering various fields in which the figure of Alice is feared. Far from being exhaustive, this brief summary is a gift to our readers, those who take refuge in fantasy, but also to those who can not or do not need to do so.
Lewis Carroll was a mathematics teacher, a lover of charades, a linguist and a photographer. Its value is not just artistic. Carroll taught his young friends to know the rules thoroughly, and only after careful examination of the charges from the inside could really subvert them. Carroll taught to its young people who do not necessarily have to accept what society we paste on him. Carroll taught his young friends to think.
For this we Alphabet City, we could not resist. We want to encourage you readers to think for yourself, we offer you a little 'Alice, far from that which tends to subvert rebellion without any sense that even knows.
Come with us, come in the midst of crazy to drink tea, we have different tastes.
