This isn't news, but I think the Current community would know best.
I'm trying to go to Africa this summer during break and volunteer doing humanitarian work or environmental / animal conservation. I've looked at the Peace Corps, but they require a minimum of 27 months; I'm looking for 2-4 weeks. I've looked at private organizations like GeoVisions and the International Student Volunteers, but they're asking for more money than I can afford.
I'm hoping that someone out here has been with or knows of a group that doesn't ask for a whole lot of money and still goes out to help those in underprivileged communities. I'd prefer Africa, but Australia, Polynesia, or Asia would be pretty cool, too.
Can you help?

Time Magazine today reports that Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to ban books from her local library as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, and then threatened to fire the librarian who stood up to her for not giving “full support” to the mayor. People For the American Way president Kathryn Kolbert issued the following statement:
“People can disagree about a lot of things, but censorship is completely beyond the pale. Our democracy was founded on the belief that government shouldn’t tell people what kinds of books to read or what kind of beliefs to hold. No one with that kind of history should be anywhere near the White House. The biggest question one can make to themselves looking at their mirror Today is:
-Why is that---- that I am insisting on giving power to a wrong group of individuals to run our society, our environment and part of my own life?
The question here is not about me, but it is about You!
As you can hear and see, I am not the one giving power to them everyday!
If We stop for a moment to look around our Media Information Today you see and hear from the controlled media; people talking about International issues, the latest car, their hair do, their pants, their shopping spree and etc.
Even here at Current TV Cyber News and CurrentTV many compete every single Day airing all kinds of issues.
Some issues are with no question, very important but many are not! It has no real life threatening time limits, it does not help the environment, it does not help human life, they are actually, part of the problem.
Many, it is just a distraction from our Present Reality.
However these issues get put first on TV. People flock to see the 30+(s) sec.; of Junk News and International News and thus denying the real value of our Local Issues and the lives of those that are being abused every single Day by a Tyranny Regime.
So--- Please--- Ask these questions to yourself right now!
- What is really priority Today?
- What can I do to stop Acoustic Terrorism happening (in) and (out) of our Local Government?
- What can I do to have a living environment that is clean from pollution?
- How can I have respect for myself and for others by making our society a better place for everyone to live in?
- What can I do to be That less than a vegetable personality in front of my TV or my Computer Today?
Not that all the other issues; Even the International Ones; that You can not do anything about it; have its degrees of importance as an information content.
But what about our Local Issues that We need to Resolve Right Now?
You see, This is not only a Fiction story, it is Real! There are a group of acoustic psychopaths running among the Public and in the Government that needs to be stop ASAP!
Would you act to do that right now?
Or you are going to continue to play this Dangerous Hypocrite Game of Denial?
What are your priorities in regards to Saving Human Lives?
- Are you going to continue to give power to a passive aggressive psychopath abuser; Or you are going to act to stop them Today?
