been shot at during a trip to his native Haiti.
The former fugees member was visiting the country to lend his support to presidential candidate Michael Martelly, during Martelly's preparations for the final round of elections against former First Lady Mirlande Manigat.
A car he was riding in was attacked and shot at as he was driving through the capital of Port-au-Prince, accompanied by friend and fellow artist busta rhymes and the record exec jimmy rosand. The three traveled to Haiti to take part in a concert to support Martelly's bid for presidency.

Dr Swire's daughter Flora was a victim in the Lockerbie bombings and he has since been requesting full injury into the bombing and hopes to clear Al Mergrahi's name.
"It is a very difficult situation for us relatives because it's important for us to have the verdict re-examined."
He said if the verdict were overturned they could then demand an inquiry into why the aeroplane was not protected. [...]
"When I go to see him it is not that difficult because I don't feel I'm going to see my daughter's murderer because I am satisfied he didn't do it." "-Independent
The article states Al Mergrahi dropped his second appeal before being released for compassionate grounds.

Stop...Pope Nap time. Turns out the Independent was curious about the gaps on time in the popes schedule for the UK visit, but after some investigating they discovered the 3-4 hours of empty time is nap time.
The findings come from release of details to the pope visit, including which politicians will attend private meetings. The visit has faced much criticism becuase of the cost and the child abuse scandals.
However, the Independent also wonders if the time will be set free for any other plans.
"Organisers may have also deliberately left time free in the afternoon to allow Pope Benedict to meet victims of clerical abuse. Neither the Vatican nor the British Government have confirmed whether such a meeting will take place. But last month Archbishop Vincent Nichols said the Pope was giving “careful consideration” to it."-IndependentStop...Pope Nap time. The cost of the visit is said to be split between the church and the government, though Lord Patton stated the government see it will have to spend more on the visit, with the figure of £8m being re calculated to £10-12m. This excludes policing costs, which I'm assuming is big number after reports of some festivals being cancelled due to policing costs.
"The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has drawn up guidelines suggesting the cost of policing should be set at £55 per hour, per officer for festivals,"-http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?sectioncode=1&storycode=1041023
"We now recon that on the government side that we will have to make a larger commitment even though we have driven down the costs of some elements of the visit," Lord Patton said during a briefing at the Foreign Office. "-Channel 4 news.
The article says so far the Church had estimated its funding efforts currently raised £5m for the four day state visit, which is the first state visit by the head of the Catholic Church.
When asked about the child abuse scandal, Archbishop Nichols said he didn't directly raise the issue himself but "He also insisted that if the Pope met with victims of the abuse during the visit, the meeting would be held in private and not under media pressure."-Channel 4 news. The cost of the visit is said to be split between the church and the government,... more

It sounds like Sarah Palin is heading to the UK and is arranging a meeting to visit Margaret Thatcher. The news was published on her Facebook group with the guardian stating the arrangement is confirmed however no date is set yet.
"Thatcher did not suffer fools gladly; Palin has struggled not to play the fool. But they share a love of tax cutting and hostility towards organised labour, and Palin in her Facebook message called Thatcher "one of my political heroines" and role models."-GuardianIt sounds like Sarah Palin is heading to the UK and is arranging a meeting to visit... more

It's hard to tell if this is true, though what was written in the Foreign Office memo sounded more fake than this (and it turned out to be true). The Vatican might ask Susan Boyle to perform at a public mass when the pope visits in September. We can only hope it'll be the performance where finally Subo and Lady GaGa duet. With the Pope on drums. Okay that last part will never happen, because the popes' hat would fall off if he played drums.
""We hope to be able to discuss the possibility of her participation soon," remarked a spokesperson, who revealed there has been no confirmed agreement with or formal invitation to SuBo."-MetroIt's hard to tell if this is true, though what was written in the Foreign Office... more

Planning a visit to see the baboons at Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside, U.K.? Don't veer off the suggested path or your rooftop luggage — and your panties — could become property of the monkeys there!
The chimps who reside at the park’s baboon exhibit have developed quite a reputation of tearing off windshield wipers or damaging car mirrors when people drive into the center of the park instead of following suggested routes.
"[Animals] do legendary damage," David Ross tells People Pets. "But the baboons have reached a new level." After several baboon luggage break-ins took place earlier this year, Ross and his team constantly warned visitors about the kind of damage the monkeys could do. "We have a car-friendly route and were advocating everyone take this route," he says. "Some didn't believe us [and] wanted to go in. And they were going to get their luggage stolen."
So Ross staged a set-up: He borrowed a junkyard car, recruited colleagues to donate old clothes for storage in a rooftop luggage box and drove through the baboon exhibit with two photographers capturing the mayhem.
Sure enough, within minutes, the largest baboon (weighing roughly 25 kilos or 55 lbs.) sprung on top of the box, jumping until it flexed and popped open. Immediately, 140 baboons dove in for a luggage-stealing frenzy. "One put on a hat and walked across the road!" says Ross. "Others just played with the stuff, ladies' underwear and everything. They had an absolute ball."
The picture above is just one of the shots Ross and his team have been showing visitors before they drive through the park as a warning of things to come. The response? The photos have only been on posters for a few days, but they've had an impact. "We've had one or two luggage boxes through since and they've all seen the footage — and they're taking the car-friendly route," he says. Mission accomplished!Planning a visit to see the baboons at Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside, U.K.?... more

Visiting — or even just viewing photos of family members — prompts brain activity that affects how you feel about them, your friends, and even yourself, a new study suggests.
The study is the first to compare brain activity associated with seeing relatives with that linked to seeing friends and strangers. It suggests our feelings about biological relatives are at least somewhat primal.
The findings may help explain everything from why our family can get on our nerves to why people who look like us can spark immediate feelings of trust, "but not lust," said Steven Platek, who co-authored the study with Shelly Kemp.Visiting — or even just viewing photos of family members — prompts brain... more

The US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte has arrived on a surprise visit to Iraq, the US Embassy in Baghdad said.
He will meet senior Iraqi officials to discuss political, security, and economic progress in the country. The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) will also be high on the agenda, as it has run into problems and Negroponte has long held the reputation of being America's diplomatic strong-arm man.
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani just back from Washington has said that the US is threatening to seize Iraqi assets and oil money if an arrangement is not worked out on SOFA that is to Washington's liking.
It should be remembered that Negroponte was the point man for American state terrorist activities in Central America when the US was destabilizing Nicaragua, overseeing the bloody suppression of opposition to its rightist allies in El Salvador and militarizing Honduras where he was the US ambassador in the 1980s.
