Near-freezing temperatures have killed more than two dozen people in northern India in recent days despite government efforts to distribute blankets and medicine to the poor, an official and a news report said.
In worst-hit Uttar Pradesh state, at least 22 people - many of them homeless - died over the past three days, pushing the death toll from two weeks of cold weather to 63, Ram Mohan Srivastav, a top government official, said Saturday.

Who says Indian Central Government and State Government are doing enough to end Child Labor in India? This Video I had captured 2 weeks ago in Lucknow, the state capital of India’s largest state. What a shame! This video is clearly saying that in India the rampant exploitation of children continues and no one really bother’s be it local administration or Government. People do talk about NGO’s do talk about but the reality is that we are not doing enough to end this SHAME.

Imams in Uttar Pradesh (UP), India are to give discourses after Friday prayers to tell what the Holy Quran teaches about terrorism in Mosques.
Ulemas (Muslim scholars) under the banner of "Movement Against Terrorism", which was formed after a meeting of Muslim clerics and scholars in February, have sent letters to imams throughout the state to issue appeals against all terror activities.
The Niab Imam of Idgah, who is also a member of All India Muslims Personal Law Board, Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahali said imams have been asked to create awareness among people so that innocents do not fall prey to the designs of extremists, who use issues like Babri Mosque demolition and post Godhra riots to whip up religious sentiments.
"once they are in the know of what Islam has to say about terrorism there would be clarity in their minds and they would not not fall prey to them (terror outfits)".Imams in Uttar Pradesh (UP), India are to give discourses after Friday prayers to tell... more
