Lawyers for the RNC 8 reportedly received a letter today from the Ramsey County Attorney's office amending the complaint against them. The new complaint reportedly lists the charges as follows:
Count 1 - conspiracy to riot in the second degree in furtherance of terrorism (the original charge)
Count 2 - conspiracy to riot in the second degree (without terrorism enhancement)
Count 3 - conspiracy to damage property in furtherance of terrorism
Count 4 - conspiracy to damage property (without terrorism enhancement)
The timing of the additional charges from Ramsey County is unique, coming on the heels of a successful court solidarity action on Friday and upcoming call-in days to Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner. Ramsey County prosecutor Richard Dusterhoft also recently sent a letter threatening more charges to the lawyer for Dave Mahoney.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Charges will be dropped against journalists who were arrested during protests at the Republican National Convention and cited for unlawful assembly, St. Paul officials said Friday.
Mayor Chris Coleman said the city attorney's office recommended against prosecuting reporters for the misdemeanor charge.
"This decision reflects the values we have in St. Paul to protect and promote our First Amendment rights to freedom of the press," Coleman said in a prepared statement.
He added, "At the scene, the police did their duty in protecting public safety. In this decision, we are serving the public's interest to maintain the integrity of our democracy, system of justice and freedom of the press."
He said the city doesn't know yet how many cases the decision will affect, and he said the city will use a broad definition of journalists caught up in mass arrests.
City Attorney John Choi said it would take a while for his office to review each case, do the paperwork and notify everyone involved.
More than 800 people were arrested in St. Paul and Minneapolis during the convention. Journalists among them included Associated Press reporters Amy Forliti and Jon Krawczynski. City spokesman James Lockwood said charges against them will be dropped.
Dave Tomlin, associate general counsel for the AP, said, "It's always good to learn that a bogus charge against you has been dropped. We're still waiting for police to account for the unprovoked smackdowns of two of our photographers."
The AP has sent the Police Department a letter asking for an accounting of police treatment of photographers Matt Rourke and Evan Vucci while they were covering violent protests during the convention.
Amy Goodman, host of the syndicated radio and television program Democracy Now!, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing the legal process during the protests. Two producers of the show were also arrested.
Choi said the city would also drop charges against the three of them.
Mike Buckso, executive officer of the Minnesota Newspaper Guild Typographical Union, said the dropped charges were welcome - but he said elected officials must examine what happened in order to prevent "the needless detention and harassment of journalists" in the future.

If you missed the speech that John McCain delivered, don't worry. It was the same old Republican partisan screed. I'll be honest, I'm not religious and whenever politicians attach "God" as the answer or reason for things, it makes me feel uneasy. (I guess that's why we have the First Amendment). The bible thumping, rookie passport holder, self-proclaimed Hockey Mom (eye roll), first term Governor of Alaska, Republican VP candidate, Sarah Palin's frequent reference to "God," "God's Will," and "God's Plan" downright scares me. With the Iraq War, she says: "our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan." (sounds eerie, don't you think?)
In an address last June to Master's Commission Wasilla Alaska students, pushing her own political agenda, she urged the students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."
"I can do my part in doing things like working really really hard to get a natural gas pipeline, about a $30 billion project that's gonna create a lot of jobs for Alaskans and have a lot of energy flowing through here and pray about that also. I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built. So pray for that."

Police are abusing journalists first amendment rights, and violating search laws according to the Twin Cities Daily Planet. Three New York journalists had their laptops, cell phones, money, and clothing taken by police for allegedly trespassing. The journalists say they can prove they were not trespassing. Another journalist was arrested after he took photographs of police outside the RNC. The journalist was released without charges and told to stay away from the Republican National Convention.
Other civilians have been harassed as well, "On Saturday evening, six people were detained in downtown St. Paul. The group was allegedly photographed, patted down and had its belongings searched without permission. They also said they were asked if they were “militant protesters or anarchists.”
“We were told that we were being made an example of and that we should go and tell our friends that they will meet the same reaction if they’re seen anywhere near the location of the St. Paul Police Department Headquarters,” said one of those detained by police." "There will be more than 400 parties and other events at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Corporations and other special interests will contribute more than $100 million. That can buy a lot of influence. Just a few of the others involved: the Nuclear Energy Institute, Allstate, Wachovia, Union Pacific, ConocoPhillips, Molson-Coors, AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, Qwest, Target, Staples, SEIU, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Interviewed by the San Francisco Chronicle, Nancy Watzman, director of the Sunshine Foundation's interactive Party Time Project, which is monitoring convention activity, noted, "These are all the same people who have a big lobbying presence in DC, and they all have major issues before Congress and the executive branch."
Amanda Burk, a Denver party planner, told The New York Times, "We're trying to comply with the law and still make sure people get enough to eat." Ms. Burk, you've got nothing to worry about. Unlike the more than 37 million Americans who live below the poverty level, lobbyists and the fat cats they represent will never go hungry. Like water inexorably seeking its level, eroding as it travels, they will find a way." from Truthout, full story at link above. After a set at Lollapalooza that almost instigated a mass riot, Rage Against the Machine announced they would play a show in Minneapolis on Sept. 3, during a week in which the city hosts the Republican National Convention.
Now the band has announced a show at the "Tent State Music Festival To End the War," taking place Aug. 27, in Denver, during the Democratic National Convention.
"Sponsored by anti-war groups Tent State University and Iraq Veterans Against the War, the Tent State Music Festival to End the War takes place at the Denver Coliseum on August 27. In addition to Rage Against the Machine, the lineup includes the Coup, Jello Biafra, Flobots, and Wayne Kramer of MC5.
Let us just take this opportunity to say it's a good thing Rage are protesting during both conventions, because limiting their condemnation to Republicans only would just be hypocritical. You know, hypocritical like making bank off of music that preaches anti-capitalist revolution to suburban teenagers."
