The wild buffalo herd of Yellowstone National Park represent the only genetically pure buffalo left in the world. They need to survive and be safe. Unfortunately, the Governor of Montana, Brian Schweitzer, has reinstituted a hunt, and in 2008 over 1,600 Yellowstone buffalo were killed. There are only about 2,000 of these wild buffalo remaining. This film, Hear The Buffalo, expresses the value of the Yellowstone wild buffalo herd, their critical importance to Native American culture, the abuses they currently undergo and is a heartfelt >plea for their protection.
Directed by Gene Bernofsky for Wold Wide Film Expedition.

Despite the Bush Administration’s insistence that a financial rescue package be drafted and approved before the weekend, the proposed plan was just made available for viewing online and lawmakers will vote on Monday. As we await the final tally of winners and losers of the plan, American taxpayers around the country remain frustrated and without answers.
How are Montanans reacting to the proposed financial rescue package? By and large they are furious and mistrustful. Our elected representatives are, thankfully, speaking out on our behalf.
Senator Jon Tester grilled Chairman of the Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke this week about why the banking committee was not given information or warnings that the banking industry was in such a precarious position. He asked:
“Wasn’t there some opportunity somewhere down the line where we could have been informed of how serious this crisis was so we can take some preventative steps before we got to this point?”
Speaking on Hardball last Tuesday, Tester complained that Bear Stearns failed six months ago and experts in the financial marketplace should have anticipated that this situation would be likely or inevitable.
Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer also expressed dismay and frustration with the handling of the crisis. His and Tester’s offices are both reporting a surge in calls, e-mails, faxes and walk-in complaints from constituents mistrustful of Congress’ handling of the crisis. Speaking about his what he is hearing from his constituents, Schweitzer said:
“"People say, 'Now wait a minute -- my stock has gone down -- I lost 15 or 20 percent.' I had one guy walk up to me and say, 'I invested in Fannie Mae. My value is down to zero and they are going to bail out the big banks -- what gives here?' "
Schweitzer feels that leaving taxpayers to pay the bill for a crisis caused by bankers is a classic case of Washington ’s disconnect with the real world. He’s been touring the state for his re-election campaign and heard widespread frustration from Montanans.
"They say, 'My God, this looks like a condition where the powerful are going to give money to the rich. What's new?' "
Thanks to politicians like Tester and Schweitzer, this bailout plan may even include some potential for American taxpayers to profit after the real estate market rebounds. As Schweitzer said earlier this week:
"If we are going to bail these coyotes out, then why wouldn't we have an equity position? Why wouldn't the taxpayer make a little money if they do turn around instead of just shoving that money out the door and have them pay themselves big golden parachutes?
Americans are justly angry all over the country. Avarice and shortsighted policies have forced a choice between a devastating national financial crisis and a $700 billion bailout for greedy, mismanaged companies. Either way we lose.
Montanans are demanding answers from our representatives. Tester and Schweitzer are doing their best to mitigate the damage to everyday Americans as our country navigates this absurd disaster.

For most people, political junkies included, last night was their introduction to Brian Schweitzer, the Democratic Governor of the State of Montana.
Schweitzer gave a rousing 15-minute speech that had the entire crowd on it's feet by the end. Bill Clinton was even on his feet, cheering for Obama as Schweitzer led the sea of Democrats on the floor in chants of "Yes We Can" and "O-Ba-Ma!"
Part of the power of Schweitzer's speech had to do with his reasoned and intelligent approach to one of the most important and under-covered issues of the day: energy. The other moving factor, of course, was Schweitzer's charisma.
Although the 15-minutes of Montana's Governor at the 2008 Democratic National Convention were not as high profile as Barack Obama's Key Note Speech at the 2004 DNC, the feeling was much the same - A rising star in the Democratic Party surprised and wowed viewers around the country and the world.
While those of you who read The Stonecipher Report regularly you know exactly who Brian Schweitzer is, for those who don't however, I wanted to provide a post with more information on just who the Governor of Montana is. But first, in case you missed last night's speech, here it is:

Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer has been seriously considered for the Democratic ticket this November. I’ve touted this man's rising political star, his political skills and his suitability for VP in numerous articles and I’m convinced he could seal the deal for Obama.
Schweitzer is smart, funny, popular, and most importantly, he is an energy expert. Schweitzer’s deep understanding of the Middle East is due in large part to his six years spent in the region working in soil engineering and agronomy. He’s applied this practical experience to create a simple plan to help America end our dependence on foreign oil.

In the election for Vice President there is only one voter per party. For the Republicans that voter is John McCain and for the Democrats that voter is Barack Obama. Ordinarily, endorsements are not made for Vice President, but since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seems to be endorsing the little known Chet Edwards recently, we here at The Stonecipher Report decided it would be appropriate to make our own Vice Presidential endorsement.
If you have read the site in the past it should come as no surprise that we have chosen to endorse Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer as our choice to be Barack Obama's Vice Presidential running mate

In the Red state of Montana, that is. But red for how much longer?
Barack Obama spent his Fourth of July at a parade in Butte, Montana, making good on his promise to take Montana seriously in the run-up to the November election.
This is Obama’s fourth trip to Montana since April and last month he hired a full-time director for his state campaign. The Obama campaign has already begun running informative TV ads to introduce Obama to the people of Montana and the voters are paying attention.
But can Barack turn this red state blue?
