Among Consumer Reports' vehicle test criteria are measurements of fuel economy. Our fuel economy numbers come from our measurements using a precision flow meter and are rounded to the nearest mile per gallon (mpg).

Sarah Palin sat down with Charlie Gibson for her first interview as the Republican vice presidential candidate. When asked about the Bush Doctrine, Palin responded by asking, "In what respect?" Gibson then asked, "Well, what do you interpret it to be?"
Dodging the question she answered, "I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell-bent in destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made, and with new leadership, and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better."Sarah Palin sat down with Charlie Gibson for her first interview as the Republican... more

T. Boone has re-invented himself as a green wildcatter and is pressing for a new energy policy. Can he finish what Al Gore started? Just don't call him a tree-hugger.
What do you think of T. Boones? Do you think he is in for it for the energy independence, money, or good dead, or a combination or all of them? What about his idea of switching Natural Gas into cars? Isn't all the talk no about hydrogen, even through electric cars are practical, cheaper, and more energy effiecent.
I haven't been hearing a lot of news about Al Gore recently. Is he doing anything? Seems like T. Boone Pickens is picking up some slack left by him.

Save the Electric Car and Stop Sending Money to Foriegn Enemies by Oil
Why an Electric Vehicle is better than a Hydrogen Vehicle?:
1. An Electric Hummer will be cheaper and more energy efficient than a Hydrogen vehicle.
2. Electricity can be produced from numerous sources such as coal, solar, wind, and natural gas while Hydrogen can only come from Hydrogen.
3. Electric vehicles can be charged at your House, the mall, the bank, in the sunlight (solar panels), practically anywhere. Hydrogen vehicles can only be powered at Hydrogen stations.
4. Reduces Dependence of Foreign Entities
How to help the Electric Car:
1. Get the Word Out!
2. Write to the Government, Car Companies, and Oil Companies telling you want action down to support the 100% Electric Car
3. Next time you buy a car, try to buy an Electric.
The Electric Car will bring a Greener Future.
What do you think? Do you think the Electric vehicle will be conquer over a Hydrogen vehicle? Who stopped the electric vehicle years ago? Was it oil, government, car companies, consumers, or no one? Do you think it was just a fab? Do you want an electric car? Didn't Al Gore say he would develop an electric car; what happened to that?

Nobody can accuse T. Boone Pickens of being some wild-eyed environmentalist. He calls himself "a Texas oil man," the chair of a private equity fund called BP Capital Management. He puts his net worth at $4 billion, and he's often at the top of various lists of investment gurus.
But he's been all over the media -- his name was the ninth-most-searched term on Google -- because of this: http://www.pickensplan.com.
He's out to get America free of imported oil, he says, and he wants to do it with the things environmentalists dream about -- wind turbines for electricity, which would free up natural gas to run cars and trucks. He'd throw in nuclear power too, but only in the long term.
"I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of," he says on the website. "But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil.
"On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources."
He has some unlikely allies -- for instance, Carl Pope, head of the Sierra Club. "I certainly never expected to be inspecting wind operations with Pickens or to be hearing his scorn for the current political notion that we can somehow drill our way out of the oil-price crisis," writes Pope on his blog. "He's certainly likely to draw an audience that a green wind-power advocate from the Sierra Club could never command."
Pickens gives a simple-looking chalk-talk in a video on the Pickens Plan website, but there's nothing simple going on here. Pickens subscribes to the idea of "peak oil," the notion that our ability to find enough will dwindle. He says the peak passed in 2005.
"What a dramatic wake-up moment when a Texas tycoon tells us we have to cut our addiction to oil," says Fred Krupp, the president of the Environmental Defense Fund. "It's really time for America to act.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - T. Boone Pickens on Tuesday laid out his "Pickens Plan" to reduce American dependence on foreign oil, with the target of cutting demand by more than a third in the next two years.
The colorful Texas billionaire, a former corporate raider and oil man turned hedge-fund manager, said wind power and natural gas could take up the slack as a viable alternative to spending $700 billion a year for foreign oil.
Pickens is building a mammoth wind farm in Sweetwater, Texas, and also launched Clean Energy Fuels, a company that runs natural-gas filling stations for fleet vehicles.
Pickens also said he's lobbying to have the Texas-sized price tag for foreign oil become a central theme of the presidential election between Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and John McCain, R-Ariz.
"Neither presidential candidate is talking about solving the oil problem," Pickens told USA Today. "So we're going to make 'em talk about it."
Pickens set plans to launch a TV and Internet campaign behind his proposal.
He noted that President Nixon said in 1970 that the U.S. was importing 20% of its oil and vowed to bring that down to zero by 1980.
"That didn't happen," Pickens said. "It went to 42% in 1991 with the Gulf War. It's just under 70% now. Where do you think we're going to be in 10 years when our economy is busted and we're importing 80% of our oil?"
Oil trader Phil Flynn of Alaron Trading Corp. the plan could backfire by causing the U.S. to become a bigger importer of natural gas, but he praised the billionaire for focusing the spotlight on critical energy issues.

As Americans spend $41 million in foreign oil an hour and are left broke at the pump, what plan does Obama have to solve this problem?
Oil is destined to be a heated issue in this upcoming presidential election and Barack Obama’s opposition to the gas tax “holiday” has already been a hot topic. Obama has made it clear that national energy policy needs to be taken in a new direction.
“We send a billion dollars to foreign nations every single day and we are melting the polar ice caps in the bargain,” said Obama. “That has to change.”
Here are some of the key elements of Obama’s energy plan:
Fuel Economy Standards
Doubling fuel economy standards within the next 18 years is a priority to Obama. Research in engines and advanced lightweight materials will help meet this goal. He also wants to assist auto makers in increasing fuel economy standards through loan guarantees and tax credits for domestic auto manufacturers.
“We are going to raise fuel efficiency standards on cars because that is the only way that we can actually lower gas prices over the long-term and I know you need that,” said Obama.
Next Generation Biofuels
Obama’s goal is to have two billion gallons of cellulosic ethanol in use by 2013. He plans to use tax incentives, government contracts and cash prizes to help this industry mature and specifically wants to encourage farmer-owned refineries. He would like renewable fuel standards to increase, such that 60 billion gallons of advanced biofuels are in the fuel supply by 2030.
A National Low Carbon Fuel Standard is a mechanism that Obama plans to use that requires fuel suppliers to decrease carbon emissions from fuels by 10% by 2020 and he specifically wants to encourage non-petroleum fuels to reach this target.
“The only way we are going to seriously reduce the price of gas is if we actually start investing in alternative fuels and we raise fuel standards on cars,” said Obama.
Renewable Energy
By 2025, Obama would like 25% of U.S. electricity to be generated from clean, renewable sources including wind, solar and geothermal with a Renewable Portfolio Standard. Obama calls for $150 billion to be invested over 10 years in clean energy and infrastructure to support it. Investment in a national digital electric grid would allow greater amounts of renewable energy to be utilized and make plug-in hybrids more environmentally sound.
“For the sake of our security, our economy, our jobs and our planet, the age of oil must end in our time,” said Obama. As Americans spend $41 million in foreign oil an hour and are left broke at the pump,... more
